Hi, I'm Dana from Poland. I found you podcast few days ago, and I started to watch it from beginning. I was born in komunist time. That time my mum knitted and sewed for me and my sister everthing, because in our shops cloths was very bad quality and ugly. Knitting and crocheting tradition was quite strong. When comunisme collapsed, we could buy all what we needed and we didn't want to knit and sew anymore. After another years we realized, that all clothes in the shops look the same and we started to creat our own designs from wool, textile. We started to build knitting community. Now we have a lot of very talented young girls and sometimes boys, who loves yarn, who design fantastic projects.Of course we don't have to many nice shops with yarn. On line we can buy all kind great quality yarn, but in small town this is a big problem. People don't have to much money and they prefer to buy the cheapest yarn, they don't think about quality. But luckily new, young generetion think totally different. They want to knit from the best yarn. Greetings now from Malaysia.
I have been enjoying watching your video. They are always so interesting and you are a relaxing companion while I knit. Thank you for sharing so many Danish yarn producers!!
I just found you by accident, and what a joy it has been too. It has been a long time since Iast knitted and late last year I picked up my needles once again. It is my new pleasure to knit while watching podcasts. Your podcast is so interesting and your gental conversation easy to knit to. I appreciate the things you're sharing with us, however weird it might be chatting away to your phone. Sitting here in my little house in the country, on an island at the bottom of the world, you're keeping me company while I knit. Thank you xx
Oh my gosh, that Birkin Sweater is beautiful. No one is going to see any mistake that you MIGHT make. So, shhhhhhh. Don't say anything, no one will see them. As I said, it is absolutely beautiful, I wish I could knit like that.
I’m doing counted cross stitch but I am a knitter and am getting back to that to finish several sweaters. I lust after the yarns you get in Europe since I’m in the USA. Thank you.

Hello from Vancouver, Canada :) I just subscribed to your lovely podcast. I was born in Poznan and I occasionally go back to visit family. My mom taught me to knit when I was a child but no one else in my family knits. I've been to both of the yarn shops in Poznan (a few years ago) and I was also a bit disappointed to find so much acrylic yarn, very few rustic and natural yarns and no locally produced wool. So far, the best yarn shop I found was located in Warsaw. Hopefully, with many new Polish designers creating patterns and more young people becoming interested in knitting, the situation will change.

Hello. I caught your show by accident, I think, and I really enjoyed it. Number five was the first episode I saw and I am about to watch six. I liked your stories of how it is to grow up in Denmark and your observations about your visit to Poland. I am from Canada so it is extremely interesting to hear about other countries and cultures. If you do learn if there is a Polish knitting tradition, I hope you will talk about it on your podcast. I hope they have one or a resurgence of a sort. Keep on doing what you do: I don’t have a lot of free time but I think that listening to you in the time I have is time well spent.

Hi. Have just found your podcast. It was lovely and I was very interested in hearing about Danish yarns. I'm a spinner in the uk but have been knitting since I was 3 years old which is nearly 60 years. Omg can't believe I am that age. Since learning to spin 4 years ago I have learnt so much about yarn that I almost feel that I knew nothing before. It is wonderful to see young people like you bringing knitting to new generations and teaching us older folk so many new things. Well done. I can't wait to watch more. Xx
So happy you like it! I'm often thinking that I should go find some older people where i live to ask them about knitting and so on (as my grandmothers have both died). I think that we could learn so much from the different generations and that a lot of info is lost (such a pity!!) I will have to take up knitting some day but for now i just want to spend all my time knitting ;)

I have watched at least a dozen of your podcasts! I'm hooked! You are lovely. I am a math teacher in Rhode Island, USA and love hearing your thoughts on yarn. Your preferences to certain yarns and colors have been very enlightening to me. I started knitting 5 years ago to keep myself occupied after a major surgery. I have been hooked ever since. What started out as a pastime is now a love. My taste in yarn graduated very quickly in the last 4 years. Recently I have loved working on Skeindeer knits mittens and many traditional type color work patterns. I love the traditional patterns and the new as well. Thank you for taking the time to educate and enlighten us all about a different culture and natural fiber wools as well. Best Wishes.
Hello from Western New York-my home is a short walk from Lake Ontario. Your beautiful Birkin drew me to your site, and your visit to Poland made be stay and watch. My great grandparents immigrated from Poznan so it was very interesting to see the town! Also, my Polish grandmother was an expert knitter and she used the most inexpensive acrylic yarn possible because she couldn't afford the finer wool. At least no one could ruin the acrylic knits in the laundry!

Oh, blimey! So you are in Denmark with your Polish partner and I'm here in Poland (Krakow) with my Danish partner 😅 And I was also raised at a sheep farm (Tatra Mountains). I don't know when your bf left Poland but i have never been robed in my life and I've lived here for 46 years 😉
We do have knitting tradition and a big knitting community, but we hardly produce any fibers here. Most of it is imported, so you can get it anywhere in Europe. The wool from the Tatra mountains sheep is a bit rough, personally I like it, but it makes most people feel itchy. After the fall of the iron curtain all the local wool production died out because the market was flooded with imported fibers. There are people who try to restore the wool industry (you can check Gabowool for instance) but we are far behind Scandinavian countries in this regard. Anyway, there are knitters in Poland and some very well-stocked shops but mostly online. :)

Thank you so much for this episode! I honestly enjoyed the calm atmosphere so much that I immediately subscribed. Your love for rustic yarns and the interest in keeping the heritage of knitting alive really captured me. As a German I always wonder why we don't have such a strong tradition of knitting here. The winters are cold but people still don't knit that much. Actually often I'm not very open about my strong affection for fiber and knitting because people use to make fun of it and call it an activity for grandmas. So I was very interested to hear about how knitting is received in other countries. Thanks again!
Thank you for the kind words 🤗 I used (still do sometimes) to feel the same way about knitting! I have discovered that people started to take it more seriously as i started to knit less crazy colorfull stuff as i did when i was younger (not that there is anything wrong with that). I guess they understand what looks store bought better. Oh and knitting for babies is generally more understood. I think you just have to look confident about it and people will shut up 💕
I know it's an old video and maybe it doesn't make a lot of sense leaving a comment here :D but I just wanted to say that it's both lovely and very interesting to hear you talking about your childhood in the farm and your vision of the link between animals and humans and how to treat the animals. It's very well said, I couldn't agree more. It's refreshing to hear that, I grew up in the countryside too and I really feel the same. Hi from Singapore! First time viewer of your podcast and it's interesting to hear about your opinions on yarns and such. I learned how to knit over 20 years ago but only started seriously a year ago. We dont produce yarns in Singapore and so they are imported and mostly acrylic. I purchased mine online from everywhere :) My challenge this year will be to make wearable in cotton/silk for the all year summer weather here :) And I love your Birkin sweater ! Oh wow, sorry to be writing again but I have just noticed that the branch in the glass jar behind you is Cineraria and the leaves are used to dye yarn, silk and paper. It's awesome and gives beautiful oranges and reds.

Thank you so much for making this podcast. I enjoyed seeing all of the different yarns. I'm in a smallish city in the US, and we have plenty of acrylic yarn, but have to travel some distance to find nice hand dyed natural fiber yarns.

Great podcast. I saw this suggested episode in my feed and noticed that you were knitting the Birkin. I just started it as a KAL with a group in my local knit shop. Love your colours, and interestingly, many in my group, including myself decided to skip the bobbles. I decided to, as you did, not to leave the one stitch of main yarn in the small pink flower. Looking forward to watching your other podcasts.

I found what you said about your experience of Poland and knitting very interesting ! My boyfriend is Romanian and I have the same impression. I couldn't actually find any yarn shop in the rather big cities we went to. Sewing seems a bit more spread but it's more practical and people will buy fabric to bring it to a tailor and not necessarily be making their own garments. I know they have a strong rug making and embroidery heritage. I've seen a bit of crochet too but knitting seems invisible !
It gets very cold in the winters there too and they have so many shepherds with their sheep flocks... Ah, pity like you said !
Yea! I guess it’s more hidden because judging from the comments there are many polish knitters. Probably the same in Romania?

Hi! I'm a Romanian knitter and crocheter and I agree with your comment. Actually the knitting tradition in our country was very strong before the fall of communism, almost every woman knew how to knit and knitting was taught in schools. Unfortunately after the communist era, the wool industry almost disappeared, fewer and fewer people continued knitting because now they could find already knitted garments in stores... producing yarn has become very expensive (the corruption that came with our kind of ''democracy'' is responsible for destroying all kinds of traditional and successful industries in our country) and shepherds prefer burning the wool or selling it to foreigners. I was actually born after the communist times and I don't understand why people stopped knitting as a hobby... it's like they wanted to forget the bad times and together with that all the goodness of handcrafting... It's true that there aren't many yarn shops, and if you find one, it's mainly acrylic yarn that you can buy. However, some indie dyers started to appear and I can feel a wind of change. I wish you all the best!

It’s interesting how in some countries the tradition is strong and in others disappearing! Hopefully the interest will come back and not all will be lost 🤗
