    We just picked a Gray Mica SE this evening for the wife to replace a 09 Honda Pilot EXL....We were looking at getting the XLE, but the rims, blacked out grill, and added interior bits make it much nicer looking. We are now a all Toyota family. My ride a 17 Taco Cement Pro, and daughter a 13 Corolla S. Great review.....I watched it the other day to get more info on the trim levels which really helped us out with our decision.

    Most of 2014-up models review they lack the knowledge that when you sit in the 3rd row seats you don't pull the 2nd seat all the way to the back. That's why you don't get any leg room, you can control the 2nd row position by pushing it front and you will have very decent (not huge of course) space on the 3rd row.
    I own 2014 XLE model with attitude black color and just LOVE IT, great car but I would recommend the cooled front seat (on Limited level) because the leather will be annoyingly warm on long drives.

    would have gotten one if it had a bit more trunk space. i went for a 2014 Honda Odyssey instead because of the large trunk space and comfortable 3rd row seating.

    This was a really excellent review. Thanks so much for the detailed comparisons. One thing I was hoping for but didn't find is a demo of the means of folding the second row captains' seats compared to the 60/40 bench seat and what impact that has on the rear cargo space. Thanks for your good work.

      @CarConfections  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Karen! We have an old Highlander LE review (2016) which shows the folding of the rear bench seating. I don't believe its changed since then, so you are welcome to check that out. We fold the seats at 20:27 (th-cam.com/video/i95vFzTxfok/w-d-xo.html)

    Can I opt out the captain chair in the back? Because otherwise I lose 1 seat instead 7 seater I end up 6 seater which is not good to me at least.

    • @CarConfections

      Toyota does actually offer it as an no-cost option on XLE, Limited and Limited Platinum. I don't know about the SE (it's not listed as an option, but their Build & Price can be very finicky). Hope that helps!

    Nice car, but if they wanted to really compete with the Honda Pilot, maybe add LED's and a remote starter as standard, instead of charging 500 bucks for one.

    • @Josh-179
      @Josh-179 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      And safety systems standard on Highlander are optional on Pilot. Compete? The Highlander easily outsells the Pilot for a reason. The Pilot needs to be more like Highlander to compete.

    Not sure I like the new grill tbh. Hiding the exhaust is another thing I'm not happy with as a dual exhaust rear profile done properly is a major turn on for me. For my needs I like this vehicle overall in this class but I'm still looking. The hybrid engine thing is lost on me and I need to drive one and see if I like it. 8 speed tranny I like. Thx for the review.

    I'm deciding 2017 Highlander or Pilot...which one should I get?

    • @CarConfections
      @CarConfections  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there! We can't really comment on that since we've never actually been in a Honda Pilot. Maybe some other viewers have a helpful opinion? If you do comment below.

    • @BernonCars
      @BernonCars 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I prefer the Pilot, it has a softer ride, and I like it's infotainment system. The Highlander is good too, But I noticed that the exhaust drones a little on the highway at around 55MPH. You can't go wrong with either one.

    • @a4ajith
      @a4ajith 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Highlander wins hands down on looks, driving dynamics and the overall upbeat interior. However Pilot is good if 3rd row leg room is the highest priority and if infotainment with Apple Car Play or Android Auto is a must. I went ahead with a 2017 XLE AWD because of the way Highlander looks and drives. Also because of Toyota's Safety System which works very well and is standard on all trim levels. Overall a great package that holds value up to 65% after 3 years. And not to mention Hybrid is a great vehicle that drives like a truck but gives instant feedback like a sedan. You can immediately feel the 306 BHP the moment you drive a Hybrid. Hybrid XLE is the best choice for a total package on Highlander that it is also reasonable to get one considering the pricing.

    • @kenblock7350
      @kenblock7350 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree, Pilot does have more leg room on 3rd row, however it looks like a MVP not a SUV, and you have to pay higher price to get the new 9 speed AT model. Now I am struggle for XLE AWD or Hybrid XLE:)

    • @a4ajith
      @a4ajith 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      秋冬桑 Hybrid is the way to go for good gas mileage and if you like instant power on acceleration. Non hybrid (regular - gas) lags that power in the lower rpm. With about 2k less for non hybrid and non availability of hybrid, I chose a regular XLE.

    Is there a reason that front grill is different color? If it was of same color, it should have been better looking.

    • @minhajsyed9874
      @minhajsyed9874 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The front grill is blacked out on SE trims. LE, LEPlus and XLE have silver front grille while Limited and higher is chrome.

    • @raidencraig
      @raidencraig 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Based on WHAT?! Not according to CR and a number of other reviewers. And I will take 29+ mpg in the HiHy over 21 in the Pilot. Per CR: average reliability in the Pilot...handling ungainly...infotainment system unintuitive...the 9-speed does not shift very smoothly...not exactly a joy to drive...safety system is OPTIONAL
