Today I'mI'm heading away from the tourist areas in Bangkok to a little area called Talat Phlu in Thonburi. We're going to be checking out a really local Thai market, going to a 100 year old coffee shop as well as trying loads of different Thai dishes at a legendary 35 year old Auntie's stir fry shop.
Jae Rak makes an unbelievable pad kaprao as well as maybe the best tom yum soup I've eaten in Bangkok.
I really want you to see how well Thai locals treat you when you're away from the tourist areas of Khaosan and the Sukhumvit Road.

About the area:

I will be on the ground in BKK on the 18th for six days, because of you and OTR and a bit more research, I have pinned over 150 possible places to eat in and around BKK. We will be staying at the Riverview Residence just south of Chinatown so a trip over to your side of the river will be easy and this place is right at the top of the list along with Uncle Tu's! I may hold you responsible for my impending weight gain!🤣 I have been to BKK 4 times previously and 100% agree that once outside the tourist area's is where you find the real Bangkok. Going to that market in February for sure - I really like the interactions with the locals. Want to to learn to speak al little thai after seeing this!
Just so you know the market is open from 4.00AM to around 9.30 AM (but most of the stuff will be gone by 8.30AM), It is a morning market. The best time to come is around 7.00AM
all the foods that you ordered are my favorite thai dishes especially pad kra paw kaidow with extra fish sauce and slice red or green eyes bird chili, follow by tomyum porkmint soup and pad pad boung fai daeng omg , that view also the winner as well

I was desperate to make it to Suriya coffee shop but we ran out of time. Next time we will pick a location that is closer to the river and explore more of these places as we have ticked off the main must do spots.

Smokey hot wok on fire is the sign of delicious food. For example, the fried rice will be hot to the last grain you take.
Just went there today to enjoy some pad kaprao and thai coffee. One of the tastiest breakfasts I've had in a long time!

Specifically, it should be a clear broth tom yum soup.

It’s interesting to know if local chefs come to buy food products for their culinary dishes, either for restaurants or hotels. I’ve observed foreign chefs in some Western countries purchasing items from wet or flea markets, even though they could have products delivered directly to the hotel kitchen.
❤🎉สวีสดีครับ Gary, I ate the same food as you. My menu was tofu and mushrooms with basil (กะเพราเต้าหู้กับเห็ด) Topped with omelet + tom yum and mixed mushrooms (ต้มยำเห็ดรวม)+ another dish, stir-fried morning glory with red fire (ผักบุ้งไฟแดง) (I don't eat meat)❤❤❤

gary said that most dishes are meant to be eaten with rice is very true with most dishes especially if they serve it with rice, its almost like eating a ham sandwich without the bread, but then again people eat ham by itself and it's a bit salty for some, i don't know if that's a good comparison, but that's my opinion.
