    There’s something to be said about knowing how to teach something. You do a great job in discovering the issues live instead of just describing what you discovered after the fact. I would have love to hear what it sounded like prior to your fix, but this is really helpful in understanding the electric choke. Having a similar issue (I hope) on my 350 with edelbrock. Will consider this when I get a chance to troubleshoot. Thanks!

    Good job! I don't think I would have what it takes to film a video in 20 degree weather.

      Yeah, that exhaust leak was not what I was expecting it to be, you should check out the video I did where I find out why it was leaking. :)

    Good video. Unfortunately on mine. For some reason even after I undo the 3 screws. I cannot twist to adjust the choke or take it off. It's stuck on there. Someone had also ziptied the linkage arms to disable the choke.

      It sucks trying to fix other people's projects. Maybe it's time for a new carb? Maybe an upgrade?! :)

      @@AndyKruseChannel it's annoying haha, but it's a new carb though. Everything works fine, but the choke. It's pretty cold here in Australia atm so morning drives are interesting.

    Hi, so i see the edge of the choke spring coil should be against the shaft sticking out of the housing? Does this apply to all chokes? I thought the wind of the spool of the spring (loop end) should be in-between the shaft. I think i see now what i did wrong on my 78 Cadillac Coupe with the 425 rochester carb. I put a new choke thermostat and new primary choke pull off but yet car starts and runs awful on cold starts. I placed the new thermostat choke exactly as the old one with 2 notches lean. But maybe the placement of how it catches the lever within is bad. The way it is now, it will run a bit and stalls out. I have to keep feathering the accelerator pedal to give it gas so it won't stall. All the while, the car is idleling rough. But once warmed up, Caddy runs perfectly well. I can't even tell it's on at a stop light. Oh im also going to be replacing the secondary choke pull off too...any input. Thanks. Great video. 👍

      Yeah, it's crazy how such a small change can affect the engine and how it runs. You might be able to play with the choke adjustment a little more to see if that changes, but it might not hurt to go through the idle mixture process and make sure it's dialed in correctly. You should be able to adjust your fast-idle adjustment so that your car is idling at the proper speed when the choke is doing its thing. :)

      @AndyKruseChannel hi good morning. Yes I'll be doing that tomorrow morning on my day off. I havent used the car at all since Saturday evening. The idle screwd are dialed in correctly and haven't been messed with since the car runs good. But maybe the fast idle cam screw needs some tinkering but I'll hold that off. Thanks for the reply 👍 😀

    Great video, I just started having an issue with my choke so this should help a lot. I do wonder about the hot coming from the alternator, Edelbrock specifically recommends against doing that and says to go straight from the accessory in the fuse box. What was your reasoning for doing it the way you did it?

    • @AndyKruseChannel
      @AndyKruseChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would agree that the way I wired up this choke is not ideal. Therefore, I wired up the electric choke differently on my next car with a dedicated power source controlled by a relay. Some people said it was over kill, but I like having a dedicated circuit for choke, it makes it easy to identify issues. I made a video about it not too long ago. :)

      @@AndyKruseChannel Awesome thanks, looks like I'm running into some wankery you found as well, the choke cap is loose and all three screws are just about stripped. I should be able to get them out but not before I get new ones or another carb (It's under powered for my car)

    Is this carb the same design as the original or is it an aftermarket one? Im gonna go look at a mustang today and lookgin for videos on how to clean/mess with the carb, the car wont idle.

      This is an Edelbrock 1406 Carb, which is aftermarket.

    7:31 does that mean the alternator has to be spinning before the choke will activate?

      Nope, just the key in the 'on' position. :)

    On my 1968 289 i have a problem with the throttle lever, it wont budge. I noticed when the linkage was connected but wouldn’t move forwards or back, do you know a fix?

    • @AndyKruseChannel
      @AndyKruseChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only thing I can think of is that it might be binding on something. Maybe it’s worth finding a video where someone has disassembled one like yours and you maybe you’ll find the issue there? Sorry I’m not much help.

    The choke doesn’t deactivate on my new Edelbrock carb. If I deactivate it manually, it activates as soon as I step on the gas. The choke stays on even when the engine is warmed up. Which way do I turn the choke cap to get it to deactivate?

    • @AndyKruseChannel
      @AndyKruseChannel  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's tough to know without seeing the choke action do what you are describing. You might be better off calling Edelbrock if there's an issue with your Carb. :)

    You think a 66 mustang is a good daily drive?

    • @AndyKruseChannel
      @AndyKruseChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes and No. I enjoy the looks of the car, the raw feel of the road with the manual steering, and the sound of the exhaust while cruising around. This car by no means is comfortable to drive when compared to cars/trucks of the last 30+ years. I could drive this car every day and enjoy it, but I would miss the comforts and features of todays' vehicles. :)
