I'm a contractor and today I return to a house after we were done for the day to grab a tool I left in their backyard. I just pulled up in my truck and walked right back there and let me tell you yes great danes are good guard dogs. Thank God we had an excavator there that I was able to jump up on to safety. Those two great danes were just doing their job
Even if your dane is a softie, he is still a good guard dog. How? The burglars would run the moment they see a dog as big as a tiger come out of the room
Buddy was 200 lbs of Dane muscle, and a woof to match. People walking by got told to keep going. Those setting foot in the driveway got a sterner telling off. And if they dared knock on the door ... I sometimes wondered if he'd go through the window to get at them! He'd let it go if hubby was home. If I was alone with him, he would have none of it! You were unknown? You'd better leave!
My Dane Apollo was awesome, obedient only barking when I told him too, slight aggression to new unknown people but instantly stop if I said so, and ultimate fear factor from sheer size. Oh and I did not snip him. He passed at 8yrs 🥺
My Dane is so sweet until strangers pull up and she’s a different creature. She never notes but she’s authoritative and her bark is thunderous. People won’t get out of the car until I come out
Whwre i got my dane from.hwre in Australia was a hardcore bloodline, in size they were easily 30% larger then any other dane i have ever seen! Secondly they have to ve locked up when someone comes to the house cause they will legitimately rip your face off!! They are like vicious giant beast mode Horses!! And they weren't weak either they were built physically of power!! Hardcore.
My babygirl is super softie. I use her size to intimidate. Only seen her aggressive twice. Once when neighbor was messing with his water and got to close to my bedroom window. And then when I was driving through rv park and unsecured dog came up to car. Her growl told me that was not the place for us. Otherwise I call her my wussy dog. Big goofball who loves to play.

My great dane is almost 6 months old. I finally heard her bark when my my adult niece came over. I was absolutely shocked! If I didn't know what a big love bug she is, her bark would've scared me.

I've never met a great Dane that didn't confront all strangers . They are not soft, some owners may be soft
I love how Great Dane is an accidental good guard dog mainly because no burglar wants to f around and find out.

So I have a grate Dane mix he’s maybe 10 months to a year old he’s already protective but I wanna train him to be more protective an a Guard dog

Our Dane keeps everyone out of our yard. Delivery driver has learned to wait to come in the gate and so have the electric workers
