She definitely has a strong chaotic energy going on. Gonna be interesting to see her develop into Linkin Park, get the rock'n'roll back into the band.

Yeah I agree. I think we may see some very heavy, chaotic Linkin Park on the table.
There is a live version of this, with decent sound quality, where she goes absolutely bat sh!t crazy. She climbs up on a large amp or speaker cabinet and then does an epic jump off it. She sings a bit of the song laying flat on her back. Truly crazy performance at like a county fair or something.
I saw that shit live in 2012! It was so amazing! Been a fan ever since.

She killed it at the Kia Forum tour opener. Debut show was definitely her trying to do too much and nerves imo.
It's just as you say. Can you imagine the pressure and the amount of emotions that must have been on the surface for her that night? You have to have personality and courage to get on that stage.
@Roguenjosh im so happy you dove into Dead Sara and gave Emily a chance! I think the LP live show was a tamed version of her voice and its going to get more wild as she gets more established in the band and learns how to incorporate it tastefully into LP!

They just had a live performance in LA where I feel she absolutely kills it. There are a couple streams with solid quality making their way around TH-cam.
Love that your looking at some Dead Sara...Emily has always given me Janis Joplin vibes, just a pure rocker at heart. If you want to hear all the different types of her vocals I'd recommend Mona Lisa (live), Sorry For it All and Unamerican as starting points...followed with the songs Lemon Scent and Anybody.
Love me some Dead Sara, I saw them live in 2012 they opened for Offspring and they were amazing.
She was absolutely unhinged but in a good way.
Her voice cracked and broke during the show but like you were saying it was very raw like someone putting it all out there.

Fun fact: Weatherman was on the OST to the Need for Speed Most Wanted "Remake" from 2012. I also heard this song for ages in clubs and bars but never checked them out.

It’s great seeing others appreciate Dead Sara. Not sure how many years ago it was, but I think I was talking about the accuracy of weathermen with someone and they mentions this song. I ended up in a tornado of Dead Sara for months.
It took me a while, but eventually I felt like I could “understand” her voice and how it would sound with other music.
The way I found out about her being in LP was someone told me- immediately stoked. Super happy that LP could make new music and I already had confidence in it. But then I was like, “Wait… is there anything with her singing the old stuff? Will it work with her doing live shows?”
Found the live stream and got emotional midway through Crawling. I was pretty much done for the rest of the live stream 😅

The singer Sia has intentional cracks in her voice as well. It's unique and adds a texture to the songs. I think Emily's is intentional as well

here's the thing... Janis Joplin was far from a "good" singer, technically speaking. Her popularity was almost entirely based on the fact that she sang in an unorthodox way. I feel like Emily has that same ability. She can do some of the things that other singers do and she does them very well. There are some things, though, that make her style unique. I firmly believe that it's those unique, unorthodox aspects that people are trying to use to say she isn't a good singer.

2:42 I think thats good use of overdrive/saturation. She engages the vocals, maybe head vocals and the effects do the rest. Some part of it is happening live too - a combo of natural grit and everything else. A pro singer should always use all tools available. That’s why she’s been doing it for like 20 years and still healthy. Chester did it too. The mic does a lot more work than what people think for the massive bands. edit: it’s been fun to watch your process of ‘accepting’ her. I initially thought you were too negative but realising you are massive fan makes it understandable

I recently started to dig down the band's catalogue, you should listen to sorry for it all and anybody (stripped) she really showcase her range in those and it's great.

There are various phone records of the event they did hours ago. 26 songs. Just before ending with bleeding out, they did keys to the kingdom live for the first time in LP history. There are 1 or 2 good records of that song alone, also the entire gig. If you ever gonna react to that as a whole, i'd suggest listen to keys to the kingdom first :D
In my opinion, the best song by Dead Sarah is Mona Lisa.
I’m obsessed with their song Heroes right now. Definitely worth a listen.
If you dig deeper into their catalogue, you can find references where she seems to be getting away from ... something where she has been lied to.
Doesnt take much fantasy to get the idea that she has written about that cult.
I have heard this NFS Most Wanted 2012. No idea its from Dead Sara.
The more I listen to this song the more I pick up something that almost feels Fugazi-like. It's not on the verses but the way she launches into the chorus.
I can see why a lot of people are feeling and hearing Kurt Cobain in her voice, he also had that kind of wild grunge essence to his voice that she throws out there.
what she does is fry scream or something very close to it. its when you use your head voice and scream at sime time in short words

I'm gonna say something that isn't going to make me popular but trust me i've been a Linkin Park fan since the beginning.
Chester was a god but i think Emily has slightly more raw power but Chester had more control and better technique.
You can see Kurt Cobain was a big influence, her version of Heart Shaped Box is fantastic
Also look up Anybody, its a great song, should have been a hit

If you havent checked it out, you should really listen to Mikes solo album "Post Traumatic". I have a feeling that the band is going to be a lot closer to that kind of sound now, and its just a really great album.

Is your "type of music" more of heavy rock? i watched another video of you reacting to a heavy song(that sounded HEAVILY influnced by linlkin park) and you seemed more into that because i think it's crazy that you didn't like this song that much except for her screams. It's a fucking great vibe/song to me and im not sure how this didn't blow them up.
I like more core/math/nu than rock/indie/prog , but I also don’t like death/power metal so not all heavy stuff is up my alley
