    All of the submersible pumps that I've seen used on the ranch use the Franklin electric motors, and they are not cheap. The 220v pumps seem to be throw away pumps. Every time I've had to replace a submersible the well water people leave them for me to dispose of. In the long run, they're cheaper to operate than the wind mills that had to be serviced every year.

      +Carolina Prepper Getting it apart was 2/3rds the battle. Now that its apart,I can see what parts it need. it needs a stator, an upper bell bushing and lower bell bushing. If I can get those parts cheaper than buying another motor,it will be great.

    Looks like a brushless motor. More than likely one of the bushings crapped out causing it to go off center and contact the side/tear up the metal. You should be able to put a new bushing in(more the likely the impeller side) and as long as the motor itself isn't shot, fire it back up.

    • @Customsouthernarms
      @Customsouthernarms 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup, that can be fixed if it hasn't eaten itself up. They've been selling that exact same motor since around 1950. Hope you can fix it, new they run a little over $300.

      I found a parts list last night and today I'll see how much a new stator and upper and lower bushings cost. This has been repaired under warranty 3 times already. I'm betting all they did was flush out the bits and pieces and put it back together.

    Pump windings are all encased and sealed in the outer stainless cylinder. Rotor runs in water which lubricates the bearings. The bottom end bell of the motor which you took off first was the Kingsbury thrust bearing assembly; this is a vertical load bearing. I doubt that the top bearing wore enough to allow the rotor to wear though the outer case lining. Most likely had a tiny leak that allowed water to get into the windings and caused a short that cooked water or plastic materials which expanded (exploded) and pushed the inner lining into the rotor. Not repairable. Just get a replacement Franklin Electric submersible pump motor. The 4"motors are all standard mount 1/4 to 5 hp. A used one from an older replaced pump would be fine as it will not be at the bottom of the well if it would wear out and need to be replaced.

      >>>Not repairable. Sad. I'm trying to disassemble a 5HP 3-wire motor now. Bought it off ebay years ago, and most likely got ripped off. It's probably junk too. It's just sad that 50lbs of iron, copper, and stainless steel have to junked.

    Brushless inductive motor like Sixtyfive said check your bushings, also OHM your windings to make sure they are not open or when its wet they short out. In a last ditch effort to save it, if shorted to ( Wore into windings ), you can cook it in the oven ( low heat ) to boil any remaining water out of the windings, and dip in some varnish , not always a win, but if it's shorted what do you have to loose.

      Thanks. This aerator is out in the middle of the pond and when I finally get the anchors removed and the thing pulled into shore,then all the nuts and bolts to remove it from its floating platform and the bracketry that holds the motor inside that,it's a couple hours of work. I'm gonna try and talk her into buying a new motor with a warranty.

  • @rchopp
    @rchopp 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks just like the motor from a submersible pump like my well had, that has been converted to an aeration pump. I'll poke around the shop tomorrow and see if I still have an old one laying around, I can't remember if it was the motor that went bad or the pump itself. If I find something I'll send you a message.

      I have 3 tiger 1022,s. Two of them Ive done my bctruck tune,tweak and trigger work on. The third is bone stock. The CCI quiet functions flawlessly in the tuned up rifles but jams about every other round in the stock one. If I had subsonic,I would try that in the tuned ones and see what happens.

    • @JPinMT
      @JPinMT 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem is the velocity. Quiet's are bout 710 fps and subsonics are about 1050. That is why your "tuned" ones work better. The subsonics will still make noise, more than the Quiet's, that's why I use a "can" and Shorts. NO recoil and the neighbor (about 6' away) would never know of the critter's demise. But it is more money and a 6 month wait.

    Well Brad I have encountered this motor once in my life and it was in FLA.
    It was in a Koi pond and same issue.
    The S. Steel sleeve degrades and starts to flake.
    It is a sealed stator and rotor but once compramized there is no hope
    Prices range from 390.00 to 600.00 sorry to say she got me.
    I shall be happy if you beat her but alas I feel it may be a cause best left.

    I've seen solar powered submersible pumps that have a good lift (don't know about 12 feet, but definitely 8 or so) that are relatively inexpensive, so if you can't find a replacment motor in a sane budget range it might be worth setting up a small solar charging system, and just use a 12 volt solar pump. Once motors start eating their own jackets, its never a good sign. You'll be in my thoughts.

      BCtruck, rebuild, repair,repurpose Sure, I nap from time to time, but not with an older feral mama and 4 brand new babies in the nest room that aren't doing well. One baby was stilborn, and she's wanting to disown another (it has a club hind foot), so I've got my paws too full to sleep for a couple weeks. I use my solar water pump as an evaporative cooler sort of thing, works slick. Bet it would work equally well as a pond aerator.

    I hate 9mm. It fits nothing but one bolt that I have ever found, but I have to keep them in my tool box, just in case. BTW the metal "sleeve" is the seal for the field coils and the armature seems to have hit. Epoxy might do the trick. The armature bushings will have to be replaced.

    • @bctruck
      @bctruck  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. It appears the worn bushings are what caused the inner sleeve to wear through. The stator sleeve isn't a serviceable item and they don't sell the stator. I had to buy a new motor.

    These motors are not designed to be repairable. As a couple of the commentors point out, the parts and labor would exceed the cost of a new motor. Also, for those of you buying through the internet be aware that most munufacturers will not warranty failures even if they occur during the warranty period. A professional installer that is educated on these motrs and their proper installation should be consulted to help insure against premature failure when this equipment is reinstalled. They typically last many years, mine is 26 years old.
