I love these videos, can you do a series on older wells, and jet pump wells also? I’m having nonstop issues with an old well on its last leg and would be nice to see something just like you’ve done here about diagnosis and troubles with older or even outdated wells people may need to get by on until they can afford a new install.

@Julian Kairo congrats you just gave whoever’s insta password to someone who’s gonna sell it to a database or go in right behind you and steal all their info! Next time just ask for the password.

@Julian Kairo Consequences of hacking an Instagram account
Not only Instagram but hacking any social media account is a crime. It is considered an invasion of privacy. Your account will not only get banned for violating policies, but you will get arrested as well and might be in jail for at least six months.
Hacking others account is a wrong practice. But what if you are hacking your account. Is it legal? Is it right? For the sake of the article, let’s say you hacked your own Instagram account. Since you are hacking your own Instagram account, the only thing you will be going in jail for will be for violating company policies. Many countries do not practice such strict internet laws, and these might be overlooked. The incident itself will probably go unnoticed as you won’t be reporting the crime that you committed.

What you are doing is important. I called the two well service company’s that are close to my farm and still have not received a callback. Water well stoped pumping sometime last night. We watched your videos several times. We took notes and found an old Fluke 77 in the barn. Changed the battery and followed the instructions as close as I could with a different meter. You explained the process so well…. Get it Well. That I was able to check the well leads and the controller box capacitors and trip switch with confidence. I even downloaded the Manuel from your description so that would know the resistance readings for my particular 1.5hp pump. I guessed at the depth for the well and was able to find the numbers that gave me the confidence to conclude the pump was just fine it had to be somewhere else. Start-Up capacitor in the control box is where the numbers weren’t quite within the proscribed tolerance. Made some desperate calls to the local venders within an hour drive and secured a replacement box wit new capacitors. We won’t mention the speed but they closed at 5:30 and my wife hinted that dinner on the stove required her being able to shower tonight. That was all the incentive I needed to get the new box switched out and the pump running.
You look good in hunting season scruffiness.
In closing, I must say again. You are doing a service. It is not always about saving people money. I would have paid to have it done. In my case I still have received a phone call from the service company fixed it two years ago for my grandfather. He is not here anymore and it is ok. I need to start somewhere. He always told me that is he hadn’t learn to fix is own tractor in the early years of farming. He would have never made a dime at the job.
    Cheers and Thank You,
    Jbyford2

I been a pump installer all my life literally since I was a baby because my dad couldn't afford baby sitters. I of coarse use digital multimeters but back then my dad used analogues and when doing this test he would always stab the ground with a screw driver and conect the ohm meter to it and if the needle maxed out he knew it was shorted to ground lol.

Great vid. My system failed suddenly. Control box checks out. I performed these windings resistance tests. Seems I have very low resistance on all conductors to ground indicating shirts to ground. But I’m also showing 20k ohms or more through the windings indicating opens in all windings. How would this make sense? Thanks.

Windings or coils are connected. In america for 240v acts differently than most of the world. Most the world only uses 1 hot leg for there 240v. The 2 hot legs in america are both 120v and 180 degrees out of phase to each other so one wire is negative at the same time the other is positive and they change polarity 60 times per second so the electrons travel back and forth as they constantly want to be on the positive leg.

Thanks for your video, I have Franklin Control Box Model# 2823008110, 230V, 1.5 HP. I am not sure how to find the associated Motor Model Prefix in your reference, but I think it should be 224300. I measured resistance following your video, setting at 200 ohm, the main (yellow and black) read at 4.1, the standard (yellow and red) read at 10.1, and Red and Black read at 13.1. All insulation testing is good. Is my pump in good sharp? If it is, then I will replace a new control box has all the components to see if it can start to work. Thanks, David.

Hi Chris. If I am installing or servicing a pump other than a Franklin, where would I find the information to troubleshoot similar to the pages you referenced in the AIM book? Does each manufacturer produce a book similar to that? Are there specs that come in the literature of each new pump?

Franklin is the only company to be taken seriously. Other companies are hit and miss. Us pump installers really don't even care what brand the pump is as long as it has a franklin motor. Honestly though you don't need to know the actual ohms or factory coil specs. You would just use the ohms to see if there is a short as he shows. Is there a problem with you well?

My well is 535 ft deep. The well pump Motor is a 4 wire (often called a 3 wire) or 1.5 hp. There is 10 wire coming out of the cap, and runs to the Control Box within 2 feet away. Finally, there is above ground UF-B Wire, Direct Earth Burial Cable wire that runs 184 ft to the power pole. I want to relocate the Control box to 130 feet away from the well Cap, and still 54 feet away from the power pole using buried conduit. When do they change oil

  • @kevinthomas5364
    @kevinthomas5364 ปีที่แล้ว

You can't test the start winding circuit on a 2 wire pump without pulling the pump out of the well and isolating the start circuit. That's a big advantage for the 3 wire version - where the cap is on the surface in a control box. You could determine a shorted capacitor if your ohmmeter is accurate enough as it would read less than what the run winding should read (ex: 2 ohm run winding with 7 ohm start winding would read 1.6 ohms). An open capacitor would not be detectable as you would only read the run winding resistance. A grounded start winding should be indicated as well but not an open start winding.

Hi is it possible to have you go over material list for my new well? It’s dug and well log is at hand, 440ft deep, static water at 330 ft, yield 25 + gpm, 4” well is located in Corning California, empty lot planning on building home. At the moment, just plan on getting water out to nearby water storage tank of 2500 gallon, located down hill about 100 ft from well, a drop of 30’ in lifting water I guess. I plan on having a generator to pump water out to storage tank, so pressure switch is not needed. I need help in deciding a submersible pump preferably 1.5 hp, wire size( 10/3 ?), piping (blue polyethylene 500 ft roll, 1.25”?). I never have a well of this depth but am curious and want to install pump myself for saving money, but also wanting to know well better for maintenance in the future. I also plan to build home myself. Understand this may not be right venue to reach professional advice, just wanted to try.
