    Very Discreet, Jan Ole.
    A very unbiased review and honest on the parts you didn't know like processor specs.
    Yes, and you are right; processor specs are just numbers. For 90% of common use, 98% of users won't be bothered or take any notice between 2 Ghz & 2.3 Ghz
    Good one !

    Another excellent review! It really gives the viewer an idea of what to expect. Very helpful, stuff. Thanks so much. I don't know if you take video requests or not, but it would be nice and helpful to see the Priv side by side with a BB10 device such as the Classic or Passport and compare/contrast the two with things they both have, such as the Hub, the keyboard, the screen, the battery life, the fluidity of the OS, native BB apps, and your preference of use overall. Either way, keep making videos. You have a gift and we're all benefiting from them.

    I have owned the Priv for about 5 months now and it changed me from Samsung! nothing like a keyboard to get the fingers going! I've even dropped it from height by accident and it's still in near perfect condition! Would never change!

      left my note 7 for PRIV...note 7 over heated ....used to have note 5,4,3,2,1 ...samsung really let me down this year and not going back to the note5...so got a priv..and LOVE IT...I had an iphone before my note 1 and before the iphone I had a berry way way back...this is honestly a dream come true and the best of both worlds!

    Great review. All the main points are well Addressed. I'm still going to stick with BB10 as I have all the apps I need and use. There's just to many things that the Priv and Android can't match. Saying that, of you really want a secure Android phone......... this is a no brainer. I personally hope Blackberry continue with BB10 and are able to release a successor to the passport.

    I just bought a BB Priv today and will be giving up my iPhone 6. I have always been a BB guy because of the physical keyboard, and there is nothing now that will ever convince me that a virtual keyboard will ever match it as far as accuracy, speed and much less frustration, especially when typing out long emails. The the addition of all of the Android apps, now I am coming home to BB.

    About performance of the priv: once you do heavy multitasking with heavy apps it struggles. Example what i do in the car: Bluetooth to car system, run spotify, run tomtom gps, run readit now for voice alerting. (My hub runs 4 email accounts, facebook, linkedin, whatsapp) Here you will see it will struggle. Doing the same on S7 for example running BB hub, and same apps all runs smooth. So i have to say priv for its price point is a bit underpowered. I'm swapping between priv, passport, s7. Every device has its strength, weaknesses. Hopefully the upcoming Mercure will make a blend of all those strenghts.
    Nice video Jan! Thanks

      @JanOleHelmbold  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't have the comparison to other flagship devices so I can only say how it deals in my daily life. Amazing how much you make your phone struggle! haha :D I hope the same thing then. Thank you for watching :)

    Ok, Jan Ole, based on your use of the BB Priv, if a person could get this phone for $329 US dollars now, would you recommend it. The person would be coming from an iPhone 6 Plus where the battery life is great. That is the big concern, is battery life. Thanks and keep up the great reviews!

    Priv is amazing.. the downside is it gets hot when running some apps. The battery tends to drain some days then lasts long on others. The screen is absolutely gorgeous and the keyboard is great. The virtual keyboard is even better.

    Hi I actually found your 6mos later review for 2017. I have decided that $150+ is minimal risk and worth it to take the chance to get what I need and what I'd prefer and if it doesn't work out I can always get one of the Keys later. Thanks for all your videos

    In India, Priv costs Rs. 32,000. The passport also costs Rs. 32,000. Which phone should I go for? I type a lot on my phone and Instagram is all that I need. Well, Instagram isn't a problem because I feel that iGrann is much better than the original Android Instagram.
    By the way, this is a very good review that you gave. I loved the video.

    I love being able to type on my BlackBerry 10 and have the assistant find all my emails, documents, text messages and Web searches. I may not see a client in months and that search makes life very easy. Curious to know if the android version does the same. I've seen androids that only search the Web and email but I need to be able to pull up photos and PDF documents etc.

    Great review as always! I've been using BB devices for years now and currently use a Classic. I am a little bit on the fence as far as switching to the Priv, especially as far as the Hub in Android and the "mushy" keyboard go. Do you think it's still worth the upgrade to the Priv? Thanks :)

    • @JanOleHelmbold
      @JanOleHelmbold  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I think the priv is a very good performing phone and you can have it for just 299$ in the US right now. (Crackberry post). You should order one, try it and if you don't like it, send it back to BB :)

    My priv has a glossy, slipperry backing. Nothing at all like what you showed.
    The keyboard isn't as good as the E72 I've come from and it would have been better had I not needed to use the touch screen ever. Also, it's huuuuuge.
    Even with those negatives, I'm really loving it. I could easily recommend it to anybody. It's among the best phones I've ever had.

    In my opinion, with the priv's price it must be better. I mean a real flagship comparing with samsung note5 or iphone6s. But priv's design is so impressive, no ones can deny that hahaha. Oh and you made a good video :)))

    • @JanOleHelmbold
      @JanOleHelmbold  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Price of the Priv just dropped to 299$ in the US on some online shop. (was written in a crackberry post). So it actually is very affordable now. It really has an impressive design. Not comparable to another phone ;)

      oh really??? In my country, you have to pay about 700$ including taxes to own the priv. So that why i expect it should be better.

    • @DIY-Morti
      @DIY-Morti 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I've read, these cheap offers in the US are all AT&T versions without simlock. Means they can be used with other carriers but have the typical carrier version's problem: no zero day security patches and any patches and updates are VERY late, until support gets dropped. Manufacturer unlocked is the way to go with BlackBerry and Android instead of carrier unlocked. Right now, no other manufacturer is as quick and reliable with Android security patches as the new kid on the block, BlackBerry, is :-) So no need to worry after paying more for the real deal!

    @jelle5711 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice review!
    Two questions though:
    1) what's your experience when it comes to batterylife of the Priv?
    2) is the Android powered Priv able to replace your BB10 OS powered Classic as your daily driver, or do you still prefer BB10 to Android?
    Thanks!

    • @JanOleHelmbold
      @JanOleHelmbold  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Battery life gets me through a day of mid to heavy use!
      I'm slowly getting used to the android experience but I'll do a specific video about that topic in the next weeks :)

      @jelle5711 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice to hear! I'm considering taking a Priv, coming from a Passport after having used BB10 for almost 3,5 years. Really curious how the adaption process will work out for me. Another question that comes to mind:
      in the BB10 file manager, there was also an option to search for files directly on your computer (if it was turned on) over wifi or the mobile network. Is that option, or a similar option avialable in the Priv's file manager? Danke, ein Holländische Nachbar ;)

  • @dmitrybain6820

    nice. what I want u to discuss is memory, and how its integrated into the android OS of the BlackBerry priv. etc.

    • @JanOleHelmbold
      @JanOleHelmbold  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      what do you mean about memory? The storage capacity?

    • @dmitrybain6820
      @dmitrybain6820 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I meant that with an inserted memory card in a BlackBerry e.g 9900 bold all the downloaded contents come on the memory card. I want know if they will have the same concept on their android devices e.g BlackBerry Priv.
      Understand now?

    • @JanOleHelmbold
      @JanOleHelmbold  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup, all my photos are automatically saved to my memory card. as well as apps if I want to, you can actually save anything on it!

      @dmitrybain6820 8 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @DIY-Morti
    @DIY-Morti 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good video! As far as battery goes: with an Amoled screen it should last much longer if all backgrounds are set to deep black. If I could ask you for another Priv vid, it would b exactly that: try to paint the Priv as black as you can and see how far the battery takes you when it all comes down to screen time. And point out what can or can't be set to black, especially with the BlackBerry apps like hub. It worked wonders on my old Q10. Anyway, keep it up, I love your unbiased, pragmatic view on the tech in our pockets, quite refreshing!

    • @JanOleHelmbold
      @JanOleHelmbold  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sadly, nearly nothing can be set to black, expect for the screen saver. BB10 especially optimized for this usage but not on android unfortunately. I've set my screensaver to black, but of course it doesn't make a big difference. It is known that the PRIVs beattery isnt the best :(
      Thank you!!

    • @DIY-Morti
      @DIY-Morti 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh too bad but thanks for the instant clarification! Leaves me wondering though, on BB10 we're asking for a black hub since day one. I thought they'd just deal with this demand on Android instead... Especially since they equipped their flagship with an amoled.

    Amazing review,i'm currently using classic but just thinking of giving priv a try,,not because it's an android or lack of support for some apps on bb10 but because it stands unique and of course it's a blackberry.

    so i bought my blackberry Priv off ebay. It just came today. it didn't come w/ the charging cord, the power brick, the headphones, nor the sims pick. I bought it for $150. I kinda feel like I shold've just paid $300 dollars for a NEW (no previous owner/non-dsiplay) Priv. The one I bought was supposed to have been a "display" phone, but I wrongfully assumed that it would be sent in its original packaging. So now I have to figure out how to put the sims card in without the Pick that new ones come with. but we'll see. I bought it for practical use. hopefully it will be able to perform for the minimal needs I need it for. I also thought it was an unlocked phone but when i turned it on, there was a verizon logo...my passport is unlocked w/ an AT&T sim.. but I bought my Passport brand new from Amazon. It may just be the vanity I'm seeking...the thrill of opening up a new Blackberry from an actual Blackberry box. But I didn't decide on this purchase from a point of vanity so I need to just rein in my horses, slow my roll and see what this phone has to offer. I hope that I got a good deal and a practical useful phone for cheap. We'll see. I would hate to have to get a KeyOne or KeyTwo if this doesn't work out.

      @theoriviere9248 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok great :) yeah it's a good idea but personnaly I rarely buy my BlackBerry right when it comes out, I wait for the price to drop, and so the priv has dropped substantially in price; I might buy one and then switch to the Keyone in two years when the price is lower ;) that way I get to experience more Blackberry, patience is the key for my wallet

    Funny, to me the PRIV keyboard has some rather noble touch due to its quietness and softness which I like a lot, but the Classic keyboard indeed is slightly faster when using no umlauts...so for the German language the PRIV is faster, for the standard Latin alphabet the Classic.

      they improved many things with the marshmallow update. It doesn't get as hot as it did with lollipop, In my experience, it handled multitasking quite well :)

    I've been honestly rather disappointed with my priv it worked well for the first few months but then it significantly slowed down and I've been clearing the cashed data it can barely open apps sometimes taking 10+ seconds to open. If anyone has some tips to help me out I would appreciate it I love the phone it's just recently started to give me trouble

    I also dropped my priv and now it's all creaky 😥😥😥 so I've been spending the past hour or so removing the back of the phone and replacing it again and again with different results each time 🤔
    Not 100% sold on that now though... but otherwise it's easily my most favourite android device...
    Cheers 😀

      +J. Morti Uhlig hehehe not sure if I have the patience for all that stuff! anywho yes I did manage to fix it up a bit but its still a very errr, creaky phone... it makes noises and bends and stuff practically everywhere 😭😭😭

    • @DIY-Morti
      @DIY-Morti 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      haha glad to read that your patient survived after all. Autopsy videos don't have to be as perfect as Jan Ole's vids btw, quick and dirty is better than nothing ^^ But personally I don't care if a device sounds like an asthmatic mouse when holding it as long as it gets the job done in the best possible manner :D Let it respond and talk to you like this (crieeek), you still have the premium feel of function not following form like the other Android phones do nowadays.

    • @Runawayay
      @Runawayay 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +J. Morti Uhlig this is true! it really does feel like a premium device and typing on the keyboard is an absolute pleasure. Blackberry kind of inspired me to enjoy the act of writing again rather than shooting out some POS as fast as I can...

    To new honest, this phone is great, but sometime the camera are acting weird and front 2mp won't be a big problem even just 2mp , I like blackberry, especially this model, with the cursor keypad, everything are lot easier, what the most important thing is this is android, no more worried especially when wanted to installing app, that's why , one word, this brand and phone are just underrated

    Hi, as always I value your opinion. I'm here in 2019. I need a new phone w/ android capablity, but I don't need it to be too fancy just android app capable. Specifically for Lyft and Uber Amazon Kindle and occasional news /social media aps to pass the time now and again and email usage. My Passport SE keeps giving me a message "your login information of IMAP servier [rim.imap.email.yahoo...) has changed or is incorrect. Please check your account settings" -I have NO idea what his is and cannot figure it out on internet. Also Its hard to use app based services without an android so I need something that can access UBER, Lyft, etc...I like the look of the Priv more than the KeyOne & Key2. I found one for $150 on EBAY and am considering it. I came here to revisit your review on the Priv to help me decide. My biggest hang-up would likely be the battery life. I'm going to be heavily dependent on public transportation and will need a phone with a reliable battery. So my option is to either spend a hefty penny on Key One or Key2 for reliable battery or Spend only a few bucks and get the PRIV which is aesthetically pleasing to me.
    I played with the PRIV a few yrs ago when it first came out and settled on my Passport SE. Now I'm considering the PRIV because I liked it even then, I just liked the Passport SE more. If you read this, do you have any thoughts? I hear the Keyone loses its reception signal during phone calls and lags in its over all operations after a while and I know you don't like the video camera on the Key2. I'm not big on making video but I DO need a reliable reception for when I'm on the road. Alot of complaints about the PRIV was that it over heated, burned through its battery and lagged. But according this vid, it sounds like the "?Marshmellow"? made that better? Of the three, which would you recommend. I REALLY want the PRIV. But if you think overall it's not reliable enought to trust on the road, could I get away w/ the Key One or should I just get the Key2?

      I too really really like bb10. Android is another experience, but once you use it for a long enough period of time, you get used to it. I hope BB will add some more BB10 features to the Priv :)
