If you're a weekend novice reel repair guy, like myself, don't be afraid to tackle thease big reels. I serviced a Penn International 50 for the first time with the help of Dennis video with no problem. Don't get me wrong, I never would have done it without his video, but you can do it! The parts are bigger , but they pretty much all work the same.

    Evening Dennis,
I've never seen the process that Penn uses for servicing the International reels, but having fished them for over 40 years, whenever I service and remove the side plates, I put a dab of grease where the harness lugs are, a light coating of grease on the side plate to frame interface and grease all of the side plate to frame screws.
Never had a stuck screw or corrosion around the harness lugs, which is a hot spot. (I also clean with warm soapy water after each trip)
A lot of small shops refuse to service the Penn International's and for that matter the Shimano Tiagra's. Lots of parts which as you pointed out, can go flying if you don't pay attention.
The drive plate that the drag material is bonded to comes as a complete assembly only.
OBTW, you mentioned a bearing puller for reels. Boca Bearings has a puller that pulls bearings with a ID hole as small as 1/8' all the way up to 1/2 or 3/4" as a set for about $85.00. A Irwin ratchet bar style clamp works well for compressing the drive plate/drag assembly.

Thank you again. The dab of grease will help and work like an anti-seize compound. On the soapy water, Please avoid anything like a dish detergent. Those are degreasers that will dissolve the greases and oils in the reel.
      Best wishes - Dennis

I do not have that reel in the shop. I will add it to my request list. I have done one on an earlier version. You can watch it here th-cam.com/video/-To2MV4RWLY/w-d-xo.html the process is essentially the same for service - Thanks for asking - Dennis
