Meadow and AJ represent the two-halves of Tony's personality. He is likeable, intelligent, sociable and capable (Meadow). But also depressed about life, apathetic and has no sense of direction (AJ).
“A Hit is a Hit” is one of the episodes I remember most. Oddly enough one of my most memorable scenes in the entire show is when Chrissy is listening to Nobody Loves You Buy Me by Dori Hartley in the back of the bing by himself and Hesh comes in and goes “now that’s a hit”. That line by Hesh with the song just made it all come together. Maybe it’s cause I regularly listen to that song by itself idk but I loved that episode
It sounds sadistic, but Employee of the Month is what got me fully hooked onto the series. It tackled such disturbing and controversial subject matter and did so in a way that was both masterful and thought provoking. That was the moment the show turned from great to masterful in my eyes, and I could finally see why the Sopranos was so critically acclaimed. Granted, Employee of the Month is kind of the Requiem For A Dream of the series for me. Yeah, it was phenomenal!.... but I don't think I'll be watching it again anytime soon.
"I came into this video one night and there you were with The Strong Silent type in B tier, disgusting." "It's not an emotionally or plot relevant episode!" "I said my peace, Kino!"
I agree with pretty much all of the rankings but, Amour Fou should be in S Tier. It’s probably one of my favorite episodes but, gets overshadowed by Pine Barrens (which is also great in a comedic way) but, the story and performances in that episode are peak Sopranos imo
I think they’re both about the same range for me, pretty good episodes that have been a bit overrated by fans. “University” was easily my favorite episode of season 3.
Unfortunately, you may already be saying to yourself or a psychiatrist "It's good to be in something from the ground floor. I came too late for that and I know. But lately, I'm getting the feeling that I came in at the end. The best is over."
“No Show” is so underrated. It might be a top 25 episode for me. While “Kennedy and Heidi” is definitely in my top ten. But overall solid rankings. ‘Sopranos’ just has so many good to great episodes. And it’s a show that evolves as you get older and rewatch it. My top 30 list now would be completely different than my top 30 five years ago.
University is the episode that stuck with me the longest, and Just another matchstick was my favorite standalone, watching mustang Sally get what he deserved was awesome.
The funny thing is the only person who may have been able to use the "we were soldiers, we followed a code" and gotten away with it was that 20 year in can suffering, shah of iran
I always have considered D Girl to be one of the worst episodes if not the worst. The favreau stuff is awful and Amy is an obnoxious character. I definitely think Legend of Tennessee Moltisanti and Big Girls Don’t Cry are the much better early glimpses of Christopher but to each their own! Really enjoyed watching your rankings! It’s nice to see different opinions thoroughly explained. This is a really good fan community
Yeah, although Christopher was a great character, I felt like most of the story with him and his short lived movie career was pretty poor, to be honest
I love how people must probably think that gal Sonya slept with Tony just because she digs mob guys. I got news for you. There was an envelope of cash given to her at the end of the night by Tony. It's the same principle as the Solar System. That was really the revelation in the desert for Tony when he said "I get it." He meant "Hot chicks will sleep with you if you give them money." 😂😂😂
Employee of the Month, Funhouse and Pine Barrens are the top 3 I think... but my personal pick is Mayham, the end to the coma dream hits me personally, really hard
Big disagree on House Arrest. Not doing his regular routine and having to stay at home forced Tony to confront his self-hatred. Him choosing to go back to the crime life anyway says it all: Tony doesn't give a shit about getting better.
Christopher is a great episode. I love how Sil takes the Italian heritage thing a little overboard and Tony has to set him straight. Silvio is usually so businesslike, it’s great to see the exceptions to the rule of his personality. But my favorite scene has to be Ralph threatening to expose Iron Eyes Cody
I find it interesting you have employee of the month as ur second favourite. It’s a great episode and deserves S tier but personally it wouldn’t crack my top 10. I think that’s just a testament to how great this television show is
Ok, now that I've literally JUST properly finished watching the series for the first time, here are my immediate thoughts for the best (or more accurately my favourite) episodes: 10) Provshai Livushka 9) Employee of the Month 8) Whitecaps 7) Whoever Did This 6) For All Debts Public and Private 5) Pine Barrens 4) All Due Respect 3) Long Term Parking 2) Kennedy and Heidi 1) Made in America 10/10 show
I don’t have too many objections. From Where to Eternity, Amour Fou, University, Pine Barrens, and College really deserve to belong to a different category (A+). Personally, I think FWTE deserves an S.
A couple of final thoughts across the entirety of the programme- My favourite seasons in order: The close to perfect 1 3, even though several highs of the more over-all patchy 2 and one each of 4 and 5 I found better. 2 5 Then, by some yardage, 4 And trailing by a further distance 6, despite it's frequent excellent highlights throughout and several genuinely good and a few, very-good episodes. It just happens to be up against better and more consistent predecessors. Also, I have to point out one thing about this entire series: the musical choices often helped - indeed, more than helped but completed - so much of the episodes. I don't think I've ever come across better use of both in-programme and end credits anywhere. David Chase et al certainly cast their nets well, from the legends and major acts to obscure bands and songs that I'm guessing no American had even heard before. My personal three favourite songs for both what they are in themselves and for the mood tone herein are- 1. Tiny Tears - The Tindersticks 2. Evidently Chickentown - John Cooper-Clarke 3. Living on a Thin Line - The (magnificent) Kinks
I'm going to give my opinions in three parts, i.e. two series at a time, given that I don't wish to wade through the whole thing at once. My first major reaction was upon hearing the uploader say that he thought the first series was lacking and it got better from there. For me it was easily my favourite and the only one of which I enjoyed every single episode. I consider the two very best episodes of the whole programme to be, in this order, Isabella and I Dream of Jeannie Cusamano. Just jaw-droopingly great. And single best use of music is The Tindersticks' Tiny Tears.I even enjoyed IMO the weakest episode, The Legend of... And as for what you sir and most others consider the weakest, A Hot is a Hit, I actually like it although I thought the trope about the feigned musical interest of the rapper was just down to him fancying her was weak and old-hat. It would have been more fun if he'd been doing it to stay tight with Chris, thus increasing his (fake) street-cree, yet pissing Tony off when his nephew is seen to be getting above the parapet - itself an extension on the previously related storyline. One of the reasons I love this series sop much is Livia. Of all Tony's antagonists, she is by far my favourite, and indeed her character is based on the reason he wrote the show. Series two starts with an episode which is alright but not great and is followed up by a weaker one still - except for one wonderfully creepy scene between Liv and Janice. Then a massive upturn with the introduction of the wonderful Ritchie. Then a massive downturn with Commendatori, the first episode I just didn't like. This was followed up by two more to leave me cold, D-Girl and House Arrest, but between that we had the great storyline with Tony ruining his old schoolfriend, and then we had two great episodes to finish the series. My favourite scene in this series was that between Ritchie and Albert, and though I was initially disappointed that Janice killed the former, rather than a good old Mafia-style hit, I now enjoy every re-watch.
I hate to be that guy but it is so hard to listen to this while you're constantly saying "umm". You couldn't have a drinking contest to it because everybody would be dead.
If the actor played the scene as if he didn't do it, that makes "I didn't but so what" a completely true statement (not just a cover up) and therefore it's canon that he didn't do it.
Not having done a video on each episode, I can't say I can really remember which exact episode a lot of things are in, especially given that there are so many things that don't affect other things directly in the same episode. It's a lot easier to do that with Seinfeld.
My 'umble opinions on the last two series'. As I've said previously, the only season opener that really did it for me was the first but this one was one of the stronger, introducing us to a whole new swathe or mobsters. The second episode I thought didn't take us anywhere but the third did. I loved the whole Sal Vitro plot. E4 and it's an early exit for Feech. Whilst I loved the character in itself, I'm glad he took an early bath rather than being dragged out into another retread of Ritchie in the way I felt Ralph was. Then came episodes in a row which, apart from the near-demise scenes of Chris did nothing for me. I know Marco Polo is often cited as a classic but it didn't float my boat much. Next up, Unidentified Black Males certainly did, though. Easily my favourite of the series so far. Then unfortunately a two-episode backward step. Whilst the dream scenes in Funhouse were amusing and got to the key points relatively soon, this time in E11, they seemed interminable. Then the superb Long Term Parking, apart from the last two episodes of S1, my absolute favourite. That scene where Ade tells Chris is intense acting of the highest, highest order. Gripping! And the season closer is none too shabby either, an excellent episode despite being overshadowed by its predecessor. Season 6, the longest season of them all, I found bloated and distended. It had a whole swathe of episodes which did nothing for me - 1, 2, 4, 8 (except for Finn telling the crew about Vito) 10 (apart from the scene in Vito's head with him trying to estimate the time of day, we've probably all done at work many times) 12, 13 (yes, I was unmoved by the much-considered classic Sopranos Home Movies which I found thoroughly predictable) 15 and 16 - and I found even the highs, of which I'll mention in more detail, to still be lower the the peaks of every other season. Anyhow, here goes more specifically: Mayhem, given that not much of it was from within the coma dream, I did enjoy, with the political wranglings and jostlings of Tony's underlings, and E5 was the best to that point, partly due to my love of the Johnny Sac character. As much as I'm not into any Hollyweird or Chris' script-writing episodes, my favourite of them by a distance was Luxury Lounge even though it's regularly dismissed by many others. In fact I'm amazed that it's such an unpopular episode. I loved Artie getting his just desserts with his hand going for a dip into the sauce, and I found the Ben Kingsley and Lauren Bacall scenes genuinely funny, as I did Artie's reaction to the low salt request. Then The Ride: I didn't like the central funfair theme with the church's extortion and the Bobby/Paulie spat interesting but, like the uploader, I loved the great scene of Chris getting high, and the Vipers scene, and the one with Chris looking back on him telling Tony about Ade were also pretty excellent. I loved the scene where Fat Dom gets whacked in Cold Stones. Is it allowed to find any murder amusing? If so, then this one and Phil's exit in the final episode were. Stage 5's two main themes, the cancer death and the Cleaver parts didn't float my boat - apart from Chris' continued hideousness towards JT (who should have taken his revenge by strangling him by this point) - but I loved the slo-mo restaurant hit, and the last two scenes, bleeding into/and combining with that end credit song by the wonderful Bard of Salford, John Cooper-Clarke, were soooo ominous as to be spine-chilling. Walk Like a Man is a serious step up from the two episodes shown just before it, from the AJ scenes with his new mates, to Chris having his meltdown. I know that Heidi and Kennedy is considered a classic but apart from the obvious centrepiece scenes, I found pretty slow going. Must admit, though, to having to check on t'interweb-thingie as to what bigger brains than mine could make of Tony's desert revelation. Then the two best episodes of this series pour moi, The Second Coming and The Blue Comet. The Coco scene and the AJ suicide/deliberate non-suicide call for help (yer tek's yer pick that one, and I loved Tony's comment on it to Dr. Melfi suggested he might have known the rope was too long) were electricity on a diametrically opposed scale, and there are a shedload of great scenes in the latter of these. Then comes the finale. What can I say? Well, I can say that on one hand a lot of it is actually quite dull, and seems to be wrapping everything up in a pretty little pink bow a la the nauseating Friends and the generally a little bit better, sometimes even genuinely funny, but still weak-ending Cheers. But that was all tricking us, a set-up for perhaps the best ever and most-debated, utterly, utterly MAGNIFIQUE final scene in all of television...made even better for how many idiots it infuriated and/or thought the telly had conked out at the vital moment. Prior to that, though, I loved the whacking of Phil scene, and the meeting with the man who I presume was ultimately responsible for Tony's demise, Butch, another great character of whom I'd have liked to have seen more.
I love ever episode, but my least favorite 10 episodes are: 1. A Hit is A Hit 2. Do Not Resuscitate 3. Commendatori 4. D Girl 5. House Arrest 6. Mr Ruggiero's Neighborhood 7. Christopher 8. Chasing It 9. Remember When 10. The Ride
My biggest issue with this list is that they’re far far far to many episodes in the A tier. It’s all subjective tho so it is interesting seeing your thought process behind picking certain ones even if agree or disagree
Yeah, based on that taps and soft tar thing, I don't think Christopher was qualified to write one of Carmine's XXX movies. Also, Ruggerio is surely supposed to be pronounced with a soft G sound given that it's a play on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. Season 3 was the first one I ever saw, because the gold foil DVD box set was on sale at Best Buy at some point in 2002 or 2003, and I didn't see the rest of the series until years after that. For someone like me (and I was actually myself then as opposed to existing in the distorted, suppressed state I've suffered for a very long time now) seeing only that season created what I would discover was a warped and overly positive view of Tony Soprano as not really a bad guy.
I really like the scene where Aide is down in front of Tony and she looks up at him. He pulls her up instead of allowing the temptation to overwhelm him. Tony did show he had some restraint and consideration for his actions, not a complete douchebag.
“I kinda feel like human life is more important than animal life”… Since when did this become a controversial statement? Humans have dominion over this earth - we are to steward it, not abuse it. That includes its animals.
Thoughts on S3-4. As I previously said, the first season was by far my favourite, and though I loved S2, my second fave series was 3, partly due to it being more consistently solid than the second, and despite the chief antagonist IMO being not as good...and introduced in a rather clunky, dropped-in fashion, only briefly and unsatisfyingly explained later. Nevertheless, it starts with a couple of dull episodes, the first in particular. It then picks up considerably. Employee of the Month was incredibly powerful but I can't watch the rape scene, indeed I walk out of the room until it's done. Also, I kinda wished Melfi hadn't taken the high road, just for what savagery might have happened to her assailant. University I actually preferred to the more more generally acclaimed College (and who can't like Living on a Thin Line by the magnificent Kinks?). And the last three episodes prior to the finale are pretty dynamite. And though the rather Laurel & Hardiy-like Pine Barrens is often considered la creme de la creme, I preferred the ones either side of it. And though it's nice to not have everything on telly wrapped up in a neat little bow, I would have liked a later resolution on what happened to the Russian, if only for more action in the next season, which had some dullness that could have been better replaced by an East/West mob feud. And thought the last episode was alright, it was, for me, the weakest curtain-closure of all. S4 again started off IMO dull - in fact, thinking about it, only the pilot episode was a season curtain-raiser I enjoyed a lot. S2's opener was alright, but I pretty much dislike all the others. There were a few more episodes in this series I can't say I enjoyed either - E3, E5, E7 and E8, but towards the end, with the growing tension with NY, and the increased presence of one of my favourite characters throughout, Johnny Sack, it became ever-more gripping and back to it's very elite levels in Eloise and especially Whitecaps.
This would be more interesting if you described what happens in each episode for those of us who don't know all 86 titles by heart. I have NFC what some of these S episodes are.
Personally, I feel like “everybody hurts” is where I see tony truly becoming the monster that is his mother. Once he said “what am I some kind of toxic person” it just felt so gross.
So slapping someone is worse than slamming them onto the ground and nearly choking them to death? 😂 really dont understand your discrepancy with Tony and that episode. He did far worse things throughout the entire show.

I love ever episode, but my least favorite 10 episodes are:
1. A Hit is A Hit
2. Do Not Resuscitate
3. Commendatori
4. D Girl
5. House Arrest
6. Mr Ruggiero's Neighborhood
7. Christopher
8. Chasing It
9. Remember When
10. The Ride
S2E1 Adriana mentions Chris cooking his heroin on the stove, so we hear about it before Italy.
she never says heroin she just says cooking your shit or something along those lines so I'd of guessed meth
@@kemdar72 wrong. She says "they don't care if you're a junky", which implies heroin not meth.
@@lancecowburn1693 yeah but junkie just implies addict
@@kemdar72 not true. It implies an addict of heroin or downers. Tweaker is more in line with meth. You are wrong on this and you can't accept it😉
@@lancecowburn1693 honestly I just personally use junkie as a term for a term for an addict in general
Second Opinion is one of the best of S3, one of the funniest in the whole show
KINO!
KINO, CAN YOU PLEASE SHUT THE DOOOOOOOOOOOOORR!?
From where to eternity is S. That might’ve been my favorite episode of the whole show. Top 5
For someone like me (and I was actually myself then as opposed to existing in the distorted, suppressed state I've suffered for a very long time now) seeing only that season created what I would discover was a warped and overly positive view of Tony Soprano as not really a bad guy.
bro really put 79 episodes in 3 tiers 😭😭
Can't wait to see you do one for Breaking Bad
House Arrest is the best only because of the last scene of the crew hanging at Satriales
Good job! Get yourself a soft drink of your choice
Camelot is a F tier episode
Irregular around the margins is one of the most important episodes what are you talking about?
Love your videos tho
I really like the scene where Aide is down in front of Tony and she looks up at him. He pulls her up instead of allowing the temptation to overwhelm him. Tony did show he had some restraint and consideration for his actions, not a complete douchebag.
Hi world it's Lisa usa
johnny cakes is by far the best episode of tv ever made
“I kinda feel like human life is more important than animal life”…
Since when did this become a controversial statement? Humans have dominion over this earth - we are to steward it, not abuse it. That includes its animals.
Stomach rumble was S tier
Love the show out to cutty from the wire. One of the best characters for sure.
Was loving this UNTIL u filled season 6 with C's ...lol smh. Season 6 the BEST season. 99% of the episodes in season 6 should get A's or better.
For real wtf, in my opinion most episodes on 6B are A and at least 3 of them are S
A lot of this tier list is garbage
@@jesuspernia8031 I agree
Irregular around the margins at B? No way, it's the 2nd best in S5
This would be more interesting if you described what happens in each episode for those of us who don't know all 86 titles by heart. I have NFC what some of these S episodes are.

Based.
Proshai, Livushka (“Goodbye, Little Livia”) EASY A
Tony beat up Georgie over melted ice and you don’t think he would slap a woman for threatening to tell his wife and daughter? 🙄
A Hit is a Hit is a great episode, don't care what anyone says - and the Pilot is amazing, why the hell is it in B tier lol
Personally, I feel like “everybody hurts” is where I see tony truly becoming the monster that is his mother. Once he said “what am I some kind of toxic person” it just felt so gross.
Something about D Girl really turns me off. Probably the only episode I have no desire to rewatch.
Isabella is easily S tier for me
So slapping someone is worse than slamming them onto the ground and nearly choking them to death? 😂 really dont understand your discrepancy with Tony and that episode. He did far worse things throughout the entire show.
employee of the month 2nd best episode? how lol
I think S3 is the best
season 1 might be the best tbh
