    Side note:
    At 7:12 "the same thing for vit decay" would actually only be the case if the build also had +200% vit decay, since DoT and flat damage is scaled seperately.

    I'd like to provide some constructive criticism for you. This is a heavy topic with a lot of math involved. The video is way too fast for that. You are not only speaking fast, you make no pauses at all. You are mousovering items for so short, that by the time I find what should I be looking at you are already on the next item, and also talking in the meantime. It's obvious that you played this game for a long time and understand the mechanics and know all the items, but for newer players it's very hard to follow. Leave some time for us to swallow the information. Sure I could pause the video, but what's the point of watching a video guide if I have to pause every 5 seconds? I have 300 hundred hours in this game, I know the basics, but I don't know what most of these items or spells do, unless I read the whole tooltip. So when editing the video it would be great if you would keep the items' tooltips(at least relevant ones) on the screen while talking about the math. Have a short pause after an explanation, maybe go over it again for more important stuff. I would say that only the overview example was useful for me, I could not follow you on the numbered examples.
    I still very much appreciate the effort you put into this.

      Thx for the feedback, I'll try to make less quick cuts in the future when discussing these kind of topics. I just feared that the lengh of this video was already getting out of hand, so I tried cropping it a bit.
      Welp, I guess the pause button is your best friend for this video as you said...

    great video! I understood precisely NOTHING :)
    But seriously, I did understand most of the things. But the problem is that I already forgot most of them, as well LOL. But the explanations are really good. In the end I guess I need to just get into the game and try various skill + item combos and figure things out based on what I remember from your video. Such a damn complicated game, I don't know why they've made it so complicated...

    Hello, I just watched it all and have a query.
    I'm playing a lazy pet build as a Conjurer at lvl 77.
    I have the FG MI Korvak's Burning Blade which converts my pet's 100% physical damage to fire damage and gives some additional %fire damage.
    On this weapon I have the component Enchanted Flint which gives another +75% fire damage for pets, I'm assuming this is additive, yes?
    Does the Mogdrogen's Pact (flat phys dmg and %phys) buff still apply before the phys damage is converted to fire?
    Both Storm Spirit (flat elemental + %elemental) and Hellfire (flat fire & chaos + % fire and chaos)
    will apply additively after the Conversion to fire by my weapon, is that correct?
    Nice work on the guide, I had to watch it slowly.

    Kudos to you sir. Please don't get tired of giving us tips on how to get better on this game. I'm a newbie, just started last month. I have a beginner Cabalist, I searched the build at Grimtools and yeah, so far so good, but I am planning on creating another character, what would you recommend sir? I like the nightblade class but no idea of the combo class or second class to choose... My brain is tired of thinking... hahahaha... I hope you could give me a right path on this... I want to excel in all the game content (Super bosses, SR, crucible) as a nightblade...

    What happens when two pieces of gear have 100% conversion of the same damage on a skill? Does it become 50/50? For example -
    Grasp of the Harbinger gloves = 100% Vitality to Chaos on Doom Bolt
    Bloodsworn Sigil medal = 100% Vitality to Fire on Doom Bolt

    • @rektbyprotoss
      @rektbyprotoss  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The same thing as in ex #1 at 12:26 will happen. the vit will be split 50/50 between chaos and fire.

    When should I and why should I use conversion? I’m I trying to push all my damage into one type or multiple types. I’m asking in general not for a specific skill.

    • @rektbyprotoss
      @rektbyprotoss  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For proper endgame scaling you (almost) always want to streamline your damage into one single damage type and stack as much %dmg aswell as -%resistance reduction as you can get. Hybrid damage builds generally end up a lot weaker in Grim Dawn (at least at lvl 100 ultimate).

  • @cyrusol
    @cyrusol 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    "Skill modifiers" are all the nodes on the same line as a skill, correct?
    How do I identify an "item skill modifier"?
    And while that's not about conversion: say if a skill modifier has +100% fire damage and I have another +100% fire damage globally do these stack multiplicatively or additively?

    • @rektbyprotoss
      @rektbyprotoss  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1) Most of the nodes connected to a skill are skill modifiers to that skill, some of them add damage, increase damage, add buffs/debuffs, some have (local) conversion. Some nodes however add a skill that procs off/is added to the first skill. E.g. in Wind Devil the Raging Tempest node is a skill modifer that directly modifies Wind Devil's hits, but Maelstrom is another skill added on top of Wind Devil. Grim Dawn really doesn't have the best tooltips :D
      2) An item skill modifier would e.g. be:
      "-0.6 seconds skill recharge to Blitz"
      "100 physical damage to Blitz"
      "540 internal trauma over 3 seconds to Blitz"
      on this item www.grimtools.com/db/items/2636
      Basically whenever it says "sth sth to *skillname*" it's a skill modifier on an item. Some of them have (local) conversion.
      3) Those stack additively unless it says "total damage modified by x%", then it's multiplicative.

    Oh my.. And I tough that damage conversions in PoE were confusing and unintuitive. This is madness! Thanks for the video anyway. It can be much easier if the game shows me exact damage type and numbers (in my case my pets) in tooltip. Is there maybe mod like this?

    Is there any addon for Grim Dawn which would track my dmg done and what type of dmg I've done and why that particular type of dmg was done? I am wondering if there is any tool to track these logs. If you hit a training dummy in the town, it just shows dmg done but it does not differentiate the dmg types (e.g. it could be colored red-fire, green-acid etc.)

    Hey, first of all, thanks a lot for making all those guides! Very helpful to a fairly new player such as myself :)
    I do have a question though. I'm in the process of making a build that converts a bunch of physical damage to lightning. I use both weapon attack skills and others. My main source of conversion will come from my two weapons and their components. Do they also convert skills then? Cause in the ingame tooltip I notice no change in regards to damage types. Or is the tooltip just not taking conversions into account?

    • @rektbyprotoss
      @rektbyprotoss  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have %physical damage converted to lightning it converts all damage from all skills, doesn't matter where you have that conversion, unless it specifically says "to x skill".
      Maybe you have some other type of conversion interfering before the phys to lightning can take place.

  • @Qladstone
    @Qladstone 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is great information. It would be great to have something similar for the defence side of things as well. It gets complicated with evasion, OA/DA crit/miss, resistance, RR %, flat RR, armor on parts, armor on belts and others, armor absorption %, damage absorption %, flat damage absorption, shield block chance, shield block amount, % race bonus and who know what else I missed! Throw in spell absorption, chance to proc on getting hit (chance to proc upon taking damage is it the same as chance to proc on getting hit?), retaliation, % health reduction and all that too.

  • @theshadowcult
    @theshadowcult 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What happens if you have two different items in the first layer giving skill damage conversion in opposite directions? An item adding skill conversion of 100% fire to light, and a second giving skill conversion of 100% light to fire?

    • @rektbyprotoss
      @rektbyprotoss  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can't double convert in Grim Dawn, so all fire damage would become lightning (and stay lightning) while all lightning damage would become fire (and stay fire).

    • @rektbyprotoss

      Conversion on vindictive flame does not work like an aura, it only converts the flame's dmg. If the conversion was on flame touched instead, it would convert all dmg.
