I'd like to recommend "Real" by Takehiko Inoue (Slam Dunk, Vagabond). It mainly follows the story of three characters one who is the cause of someone becoming handicapped, one who has been handicapped for years, and one who has just lost the use of his legs. The story explores how they cope with trauma and find a way to live and achieve something. And it is one the the manga that touched me the most.

I highly recommend reading Usogui (The Lie Eater). It starts off slow, but it soon becomes the most ridiculously over the top showcase of 4D chess, and the art becomes absolutely insane (it was published weekly somehow) (and the author is an amateur boxer). I wish more people talked about it.

Oddly enough even though I find them all worthy, I was little let down by Vagabond. Very cool stuff mixed in but I found that Blade of the Immortal drove home the same themes abt Strength and Revenge and the ultimate desire to live a simple life. “All you ronin are just useless thugs.” We don’t like hearing that abt our super skillful and devoted protags.
I might be biased, based on experience, but Blade is the best samurai manga imo

@seakermac5800 vagabond is a manga illustrated autobiography telling of one of the greatest samurai to have ever existed and a great philosopher and depicts his journey on self discovery and realizing that strength isn't Just physical strength and has Unbelievable amounts of reflection and introspective lessons people can take away from vagabond. Blade of the immortal is a cool hack and slash with interesting writing and good art but not even close to being at vagabonds quality. Takehiko inoue did brush work on vagabond. Go watch some of his work on vagabond and how he produces those artistic masterpiece panels. You are entitled to your opinion none the less. It's just factually inaccurate. Cheers.

I highly recommend Tomorrow's Joe/Asita no Joe, written by Ikki Kajiwara and illustrated by Tetsuya Chiba. Anime or manga it's considered a classic for a reason. Its main character is so well written and goes through so much development that I would put him on the same pedestal as people put characters like Guts, Musashi, and Thorfinn. Sadly it doesn't have an official English release afaik, but is fully fan translated.
I also recommend Phoenix/Hi no Tori by Osamu Tezuka. It's something of an anthology of stories taking place in multiple time periods, with reincarnations of characters appearing across time. It's split into stories set in the past and the future. My favourites among these stories include every Future story except "Sun" (Future, Universe, Resurrection, Nostalgia, and Life), as well as the story "Karma/Hou-ou." Sadly this series went unfinished due to the author's death. There is an official English release but it is rare and prohibitively expensive (at least physically).
You'd probably also like Lone Wolf & Cub, it's violent and probably the most masculine thing you'll ever read. I also recommend the Getter Robo Saga. The former has an official English release, though it's quite old and full of Japanese words that are hard to translate, with a glossary at the back. The latter has almost nothing in terms of official English releases, but has a complete high-quality fan translation. The publish order for the series goes: Getter Robo > G > Go > Shin > Arc.

Great video! Most of these manga are outside of my usual comfort zone, but you've got some fantastic picks.
My top ten would probably look something like this:
    1. One Piece - It's such a tightly knit story, but more importantly, it's just pure unbridled fun, and always brings a smile to my face.
    2. The Disastrous Life of Saiki K - First manga I ever read, so maybe I'm just biased, but it is a genius comedy series and almost never falls flat. The deadpan humor of the protagonist combined with the ridiculous and creative situations he constantly falls into makes it a manga I just can't get tired of.
    3. World Trigger - The synopsis doesn't do it any favors, but actually reading it, I found out there's a ton more to the series. Its fight scenes are genuinely near-perfect, with tons of clever strategies, team fights that aren't just a bunch of 1v1s, and a huge yet not overbearing cast.
    4. Psyche Matashitemo - Definitely a more obscure pick, it's about a boy who one day gains the power to restart the day by drowning himself. It's starts off simple, but as he begins to develop a hero complex, his character growth becomes something very unique. Also, the other superpowers in the series are just super ridiculous (as expected from the author of The Law of Ueki), so seeing a fight such as one between the power to turn things into packing tape and the power to be a human matryoshka doll just makes it even better.
    5. Please Save My Earth - I'm not usually a massive shoujo fan, but this manga is something special. It's about a group of high schoolers who start having dreams about living on the moon, and soon realize that these are actual events that happened; they are reincarnations of the people who once lived there. What's really interesting here is that the plot is wildly unpredictable. That isn't to say the plot is illogical, but somehow the author keeps taking the story in a direction you don't even realize it can go. I've never read anything quite like it.
    6. Rave Master - Essentially a classic style battle shounen in the style of a JRPG and with a ton of attention to worldbuilding and character writing. The world is vibrant, with all sorts of different creatures, abilities, and environments, and the characters have a ton of depth to them. All of this is kind of surprising coming from the author of Fairy Tail, but then on top of that it also features the most emotional, mindblowing, and beautifully handled late game plot twist I have ever seen. Such a hidden gem.
    7. Pokemon Adventures - Sure, it's technically a kids' manga, but it's a very good one, which is what's more important. It has a JoJo's style approach of having a new protagonist in each arc, and the fights are pretty clever. Two things set it above the anime for me: first, the villains feel much more threatening, and the protagonists feel much more developed. Giovanni in particular is written really well. Second, the fights are legitimate fights, not sports. What this means is that the trainer can actually get attacked, moves interact more with the environment, and it overall creates much more compelling battles.
    8. Bleach - I don't really know what to say about Bleach aside from, it's just really COOL. The character designs are great, the fights are fast and often epic in scale; Bleach has this talent at making itself just feel really fun to binge read. It doesn't have a complicated story or anything, but who needs that when you have a bunch of dudes clashing in swordfights?
    9. Girls' Last Tour - It's a fantastic take on both the slice of life and post-apocalyptic genres, meshing them together flawlessly and climaxing in an absolutely beautiful ending that leaves you feeling empty.
    10. My Girl - This is just a simple 5-volume story of a single father doing his best to raise his daughter and overcome his grief of losing his wife. That's really all there is to it, and the simplicity of its plot is what makes it work so well.
Kokkoku and The Chronicles of Narnia are definitely my honorable mentions, the former only just missed the list, and the latter I haven't finished yet (though I read the novels, so it has a guaranteed place once I get to the end).

I would like to recommend my fav series, that I've read this year. "A Trail of Blood" (Chi no Wadachi) is a pretty dark manga about a young boy and his overprotective mother. It does an amazing job at showing the effects, that trauma has on children and also follows the protagonist into adulthood. It's both thrilling and emotional, if I have to put a label on it, I'd classify it as psychological horror. Feel free to check it out, I hope you like it and thank you for the list! :)

    8. Monster. One of the best stories ive ever read. being german its a bit surreal to see my country so accurately in a japanese manga
9- 20th century boy. urasawa is just the GOAT
    10. The Breaker. bad ass martial arts story. great mix between feeling real and violent while still having a bit of magical stuff to it

@@alchemistofsteel8099 I really enjoyed Dorohedoro, Dai Dark is good so far too, they're fun reads but in terms of how much impact Dorohedoro has had on me it's pretty minimal aside from introducing me to gyōza. • @GIGAFAT3
      @GIGAFAT3 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

I don't think Tokyo Ghoul makes my top 50 and I've only read about 50 series. I think the art is really really good and I enjoyed the first part but to me Re totally ruined the series, it was so bland and lazily written that it ruined the first half for me because I assume Ishida was going to go in that direction when he was writing the first half of the story and it's a bummer that such a great concept wasn't delivered on
