What a very balanced and fair analysis of Imperial Ethiopia from Dr. Shimelis Gulema.
He debunks some of the unfair myths about the old system and highlights some of its accomplishments and virtues while also acknowledging its flaws which lead to the Revolution.
Personally even though I sympathize with the critics of inequality of the feudal system and lack of democracy, I think it was a shame that Ethiopia never gradually transitioned into a constitutional monarchy. Maintaining our ancient monarchy would've been preferable to a complete revolution which arguably brought a more authoritarian and brutal form of government which presided over great instability and civil war reminiscent to that of the Zemene Mesafint.

Hermela you are honest person politics is not for you.
You sawed it no matter you tried no one understands you.
The Creator of the Universe understands you and me so don’t disappoint what you’re trying to change.
I agree 100% with you but people not understanding that because they are corrupted by the system.
I believe God will guide you through this and becomes the best of yourself.

Revisionist history is what we need, his grandfather was a corrupt criminal that usurped power to by killing and poisoning. And then ruled with brutality and total disregard for the Ethiopian people. Ethiopia does not need to regress back giving airtime to primitive corrupt time in its history. We need to learn from that and focus on today problems of ethnicity and its danger. Need to reform the current system give voices to all as Ethiopian people equally. No need for blue blood in Ethiopia anymore…

An epic documentary. Our cruelty to one another is scary then and scary now. We're destined to destroy, shame and humiliate one another. No doubt, we find ourselves in a continuous cycle of poverty.

can't wait to see the full version, if feels wishy-washy, I don't get him about the ambition to colonize but not enough resources etc staff and the wealth gap. All those are hallmarks of any nation, the difference is some monarchs or leaders had a good policy and chose the path to develop their nation making them stronger and wealthier, while some changed in time to democracy avoiding civil war and what comes with it..... so I am not sure his view of history, but waiting to hear the full version and Thank You Hermila for bringing us such worthy guest on a worthy timely topic.

Was the Brother that bad till where he had to be killed? I mean he seems like a noble good person. You know I don't know! I'm Black American. So I'm looking at it from the outside in. I just think we need to stop cutting each other down and possibly be doing the dirty work of others who don't have our best interests at heart, or really don't give dam about us! All they want to do is achieve their own self centered selfish motive or greed for whatever it is that they wanted from this Man's demise.
