Wow, astonishingly well preserved film with beautiful color capturing so much of the amazing celebrations. I am watching this the day after Queen Elizabeth died. Seeing Emperor Haile Selassie and the Empress was so illuminating.
At least you guys are still doing better than ur fellow neighbour sudan 🇸🇩🥲💔 Inshallah Ethiopia can overcome the current wars happening and land on their feet stronger again 💯
The incredible display everybody put on for her where she went was so beautiful to behold. Everyone was impeccably apparelled and had priceless gifts for her. We will never see anything like this again. This is how we would treat God if he came. Its not that we actually worship the Queen but we just love to put on a royal show for the excitement of it.
😅 I wonder what the queen thought upon seeing the stained glass mural named, The Total Liberation of Africa. That means total liberation from colonial powers such as England 😅 also, seeing the warriors with spears raised must have reminded her that no colonial powers could conquer Ethiopia, so think about that!
Hopefully Ethiopia will restore its monarchy as the symbol of unity and peace of the people of Ethiopia just like when Cambodia restored its monarchy after the communist regime because I find it interesting for their long history and tradition. This will also help Ethiopia into becoming a more democratic country. But considering the current situation of Ethiopia, it seems that it need some times for the Ethiopian monarchy to be fully restored as constitutional monarchy.
Ethiopian don’t care about her we all know she’s evil and she in hell now and she’s not “Ethiopians best friend” don’t try it 😭😭 long live Ethiopia 💚💛❤️
We, African peoples in the West thru transatlantic slave trade, do NOT see her as a friend at all! Far from it. The riches of the British monarchy are the ill gotten gains from slave trade and colonialism, so she and them are no "friends" of any African nations, in my opinion....
Quite amazing how the sound track went missing! Just like no second and more copies « just in case », as tho’ no one would be interested…but why complain you have this one? Yearh, and why not not make the film anyway few will be interested? Where did they visit? Did they visit Keren site of Britain’s first real battle win, long before El Alemein? Even a visit to the historic point of entry of Haile Selasie on his return and to hoist the flag of his empire after too many years. That said, what of his eventual sad and tragic fate by unworthies of his own people…?. What do Ethiopian schools and history books teach their children today?
I don't know that there's anything peculiar about "missing soundtrack". When you're dealing with archival footage, which had clearly been lovingly restored and color-corrected, it's hard to say whose hands this restored visual track were delivered to; there was probably an entirely different crew cleaning the audio track. Though this says it is coming to us by way of British Pathé, it's not unusual that the final post-produced restoration footage may have been in other vaults, but at least someone at Pathe understood the importance of this film and published what she or he had access to to TH-cam. By 2014, when this was published here, the cracks in all the mythological telling of Empire and colonialism were already starting to produce revised and corrected framings of history as it happened. No historian, whether at Pathe or anywhere else, would want to suppress the audio track - unless maybe and this is just a possible speculation, the historian/archivist was embarrassed by the audio portrayal of the events which no doubt favored Queen Elizabeth over Emperor Haile Selassie, and reflected traditional colonialism, even though Ethiopia was independent from the British Commonwealth.
It was in 1965, even though Ethiopia was not part of the Commonwealth, as we were never been colonised by any foreign force - other than by our own dictator leaders. Soon will be eliminated from planet earth. Emperor Haile Selassie was a powerful and highly respected figure. That is way Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II visited Ethiopia.
