- This May, the Circassian minority in Turkey marked a solemn anniversary. The Russian Empire deported the Circassians 155 years ago from their homeland in the northeastern shores of the Black Sea. Most of the Circassian exiles were absorbed into the Ottoman Empire, settling as far away as present-day Jordan. We take a look at their centuries old traditions that remain very much alive today.

@@muradalemdar. It is said that Sultan Abu Bakar of Johore had special relationship with then Ottoman Sultan. The Ottoman Sultan sent envoy of Turkish traders and Janissaries to Johore where most Janissaries become special army for the Sultan. The envoy mostly Turkish and Circassian people.

The biggest issue for Circassians today is the forced assimilation. Those who were slapped to not speak their native language, those who lost their jobs because they spoke their native language, those who were forced to move because they were Circassian need their rights

It is a complex situation. In Turkey, the people except Kurds are the descendants of native Anatolian peoples, Balkans, Caucasians, Turkics. Our common culture and Turkic language is what united us.

@@oguzhanugur886 Happened maybe 100-150 years ago when Ottoman Sultan sent envoy of Jannisaries and traders to the Sultan of Johore. That is why there are famous Malaysian Government Officials have Circassian blood. As Malaysia being a muslim country, the Circassian people tend to blend with the local but most of their descendants becoming important government officials and professionals in the country. Even one of the founding father of independence Malaysia name Onn Jaafar were Circassian origin.
we are also on the island of Cyprus on both sides. My family and many others are an example of that.

How many Kurdish exiled? Even when Saddam attacked Kurds, Turkey took half million Kurds as refugee. They can live everywhere in the country, there were Kurdish prime ministers; however Circassians can not. Just tired of that sick propaganda. If i went back to 1923, i really gave the land and say just live there.
