  • We took a road trip in our Bentley T from Philadelphia to Chicago. We want to demonstrate how these cars can stand the test of time, and how functional they can be on long trips. Had a couple of minor set-backs, but made it home, about 2000 miles roundtrip.

    A man driving a Bentley (a real one!) in New England with his beloved is a King. This is true luxury, true fulfillment and true happiness.

      Glad that you saw Harry take the old Rolls to the Arctic Circle. But Harry also had a problem with the Contact Breaker Points too! If I owned either a T1 or a Rolls Silver Cloud, in fact - any old car with Points, I would explore the possibility of a Hall Effect Ignition System. They work extremely well, and cures many of the ills that everyone experiences with the old Contact Breaker Points. No adjustments - not ever again. All cars perform better when this is done. Pertronix is a type of system that can be used, but I am not certain if they cater for V8's. Honestly, I would love to see these types of shows on TV!. I would be living on my nerves, driving that distance, without a few grand in my pocket as some form of back-up.

    Oh PLEASE take another trip in your gorgeous Bentley & film it for us! I cannot tell you how much I thoroughly enjoyed watching this, it almost felt like I’d taken a seat in the rear & was travelling with you both! Everything about this clip was beautiful, the stunning Bentley, the lovely background music selection, seeing the countryside & your commentary was perfect! It was just such an easy, relaxing video to watch . . . I live in a similar countryside setting to you & now you’ve got me hankering for a grand old lady like yours to cruise around the lovely wineries near my home! Well done!

    When new and in the UK, where things are smaller, this car stood out in traffic as a highly conspicuous, very deliberate status symbol and a marker of conspicuous consumption. They were tall and physically large (on our roads) and their presence was unmistakable.
    These days, they look so small, so modest, so stylish.
    In the absence of the slightly classical geometry of the R-R grille, the T has its own smooth, undercover elegance.
    This is a toweringly good car.

    • @KasparArnault
      @KasparArnault  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! Strikes the right balance I think, as being stylish and interesting, but not terribly ostentatious. It creates a lot of curiosity with people. From all walks of life, really. When we had a Silver Shadow, once we had bottles thrown at us while driving through a rough neighborhood. But never experienced this reaction with this car.

    Wonderful. Back in the late seventies my late uncle had the Rolls Royce version of this beauty. He actually taught me to drive in it! This was in Devon in England. We went on many long trips in her. His was in Garnet with pale grey interior. The journey to took was what this car was made for. Sure, the old girl has a few foibles but I am of a similar age and I also have a few foibles of my own. Congratulations on driving that beauty as it was meant to be driven!

      I worked in a garage storage compound and found the best way to open a frozen door locks was to put a hot water bottle against the lock and handle for 10/15 seconds and they usually opened up as normal, then tuck the bottle back under my coat to keep me warm.

    Great video and great story. I own a light blue Silver Shadow 2 and with my car as well, going on a long trip in the North of France is always an adventure. Its heating system just decided to quit a few days ago... As a friend of mine likes to put it, with these British cars, everything can eventually be fixed, but unfortunately not at the same time. Your starter problem may be the auxiliary solenoid contacts, which are located within the starter motor casing. It's best to replace the entire starter motor assembly, but get the original design as there are problems with the high geared ones in terms of the gear meshing.

    I noticed that the speedometer has RR in the screen....
    RR and Bentley were one and the same firm those days and plowed on this way💪

      I think the S3 that you had a video of and the Bentley were Bentley in a nutshell . I live in Edgware in the uk and as a child and as a young man I used to walk around various houses with a bucket , sponge and a chamois and wash cars . On the list of cars I used to wash on a saturday and sunday was a series 2 Jaguar XJ 6 and the daimler variant , a rolls royce silver shadow series 1 , a bentley s 2 , a rover p 5 b known as a poor mans rolls royce and really the way the rover p 5 b was put together I really was as good as it was called and a Jensen interceptor

      @@oxfamshop Yes, I think these cars represent something very special, and all had a certain ambiance and elegance that was part of another time. Our modern cars are more technologically advanced and drive better, but are they endearing? No.

      A general servicing with all fluids changed, accumulators, multiple suspension bushings, speedo cable lubricated, drivers side wind noise corrected, (door seal), small leather repair, ignition problem sorted, tune-up with new plugs, then shortly thereafter I replaced all rubber brake lines with Palma Automotive.

    I was in junior high in Texas when the Silver Shadow and Bentley T were introduced. We really did think they looked like bloated Peugeot 403's, especially after the Silver Cloud. But, over time, the wisdom of the company in a complete break with the Cloud proved correct. These were so much more practical; a very wealthy relative of mine bought a new Silver Shadow in 1969 and I rode in it many times. Just so serene; I still remember it.

    • @KasparArnault
      @KasparArnault  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have never driven a Cloud, but I imagine the driving experience of the Shadow to be, by comparison, significantly more "modern."

      @@KasparArnault That same relative owned a gold-colored SC III before the Shadow. I know I rode in it, but was really too young to remember it. I remember it had lousy air conditioning, an add-on that RR put in, in the US cars and in the trunk. And unlike the Shadow, the Cloud's trunk was already small by US standards without it! The British Clouds had a nightmare unit in the right wheelwell behind the tire. And believe me, here in Texas we really need that a/c! If it's working right, your Bentley's will freeze you out.
