    The old skills still have a place in the modern world. Lovely to watch craftsmen showcase their talents. I'm unsure that the finished car will be economically viable, but nevertheless pleased that there are people who love the cars enough to save them and not to worry about the cost.

    Loved watching this. My Grandfather was a panel beater for Aston Martin shortly after the war I believe. I wish he was still around for me to ask him about the cars he built.

    This is beyond impressive! A dying art of craftsmanship with everything on modern cars being pressed or printed or laminated....
    Amazing to see, hopefully we´ll get a couple more of these. 😉👌

    Was the filler on the door from previous work? I mean, not much point doing such good gas welding (often it cuts into the metal quite deep) or finishing the metal so well or dressing the shrinkage if you’re going to put filler on it. May as well use an easier welding method and grind it all off, if you’re using body filler.
    Mulliner never used body filler, I’m not even sure they used lead except perhaps for joining separate panels in the way we use seam sealer today, probably on the roof pillars. I’m not sure they used body files either, and I’d be fairly sure they didn’t pick and file, eliminating the likelihood there’d been files around in the first place. Jensen did, who made the Austin Healey bodies.

  • @brianiswrong

    Not a dollop of modern filler in site 👍 I hope it gets lead loading for any filler?

    • @eldontyrell4361
      @eldontyrell4361 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What about the doors? Covered in filler. Granted we don’t know who’s handiwork that was - as clearly rust repair work was done on the bottom of the wing in a patchwork fashion, and not done with gas welding. The car has been worked on (badly) by someone else previously. However it’s odd that the doors would have a perfect coat of filler left on them if the rest of the body has been stripped and cleaned...

      Like Most Top Gear fans, especially when the moronic trio were still on the show, you probably wanted to see the Bentley go over a jump and break, or get a caravan dropped onto it? Right. Doing anything important takes ages, requires patience, is slow and dull.

    • @eldontyrell4361
      @eldontyrell4361 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s gas welding, it’s actually quite nice. You should see what gas welding normally looks like, you get a rough, jagged groove where the two metals flow into each other. He used some filler rod to account for that. I’d be positive the welding down at the bottom of the wing on the front wasn’t them, if that’s the bad welds you meant.

    How quaint, a skill and a vehicle that quite frankly belongs in a museum. This car will never turn a tire on pavement, apart for the dozen or so miles, driven on & .off trailers going to "shows". The car is truely a dinosaur, a symbol of wretched pomposity, consumption & "nobility", very fitting to its Monarchy nation which created it.. A vehicle that as NO value in the real world, a "value" in name only. Limited production in and of itself is NOT an indicator of "excellence", it just means very few were made....the "excellence" is determined by other factors.

      ... and so is a cane flyrod, with a pre-war Hardy reel, spooled with woven silk DT line, gut leader and flies tied with feathers and hair. A fishing dinosaur, yet appreciated by the educated few.
      Your real world full of dull socialist homogeneity is made for soulless mass consumption. No one makes videos about those products.
