    Wow. I returned to golf after I retired a couple of years ago and after 40 years of only playing two or three times a year. First thing I did was start watching golf videos, but not yours. I've probably watched a hundred hours of traditional golf instruction, but I'm still shooting in the 90's and I'm still confused every time I set up with thoughts like, what do I do with my hands, how far back should I take the club, and when should I shift my weight? This morning I stumbled across one of your videos, watched it, and felt the confusion drain from my brain. Can't wait to play tomorrow and I can't wait to tell your Leo DiCaprio story to the guys.

    My bunker play has never been better with this method. I keep the normal JV stance, close my shoulders, open the wedge a little and then take a regular swing making sure to hit the sand first. For someone like me who has always struggled out of bunkers - this has been gold!

    Nice Jim 👍
    I've had amazing success with your method on down hill lies in bunkers. At our course you get quite a few down hill lies and if I commit they fly right on out.
    Thanks again.

    Great lesson... any concern to hit behind the ball, and if so, how far behind the ball?

    • @kymstock1852
      @kymstock1852 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Bruce,
      The ideal sand shot delivers the ball on a thin blanket of sand,so yes you need to hit behind the ball. How far behind? That depends on two factors. 1) the softness/ depth of sand and 2) the degree of bounce on your wedge.
      For example, if the sand is soft and deep you can hit further behind the ball ( ? up to 2 inches/ 4 cm ) if you have a higher bounce wedge ( 12+degrees) and the wedge will slide under the ball not dig in. If you try that with a low bounce wedge 4-6 degrees it will dig in too deep and the ball will stay in the bunker.
      If the sand is wet/ hard / dense you need to almost chip the ball off the surface. On this type of bunker if you use a high bounce wedge wedge it will hit the surface behind the ball and bounce up into the back of the ball shooting it low and forward. This is a situation where a low bounce wedge is indicated.
      Ideally you need to have a low and high bounce wedge available in your bag, maybe an average ( 8-10 degree) one too and open the club face to increase the bounce and use it with low hands to increase bounce even more. Some players switch wedges in and out of their bags depending on course conditions/ weather ( wet long grass need more loft / bounce wedges).
      Go out and find a bunker and practice with your existing wedges and see what works for you.

    Jim, a question even though you have opened your stance to the target line your setup is still the same as your normal pivot into closed lead side & weight forward & you still swing down that line?.

    • @jimvenetosgolf
      @jimvenetosgolf  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eliot Chester all shots are with a 9 deg bounce 60 deg I had laying around but I most commonly carry a 56 that I use for bunker shots. I could hit the same shots with a 9 iron, just not practical.

    Jim, I see you opening the stance for the sand shot, but unlike your other shots I don’t see you pivot to your usual closed shoulders. Is it just the angle of the video or am I missing something? Thanks.
