The most progress I ever made was when I stopped letting myself move in any direction. Not up, down, left, or right. The most amazing feeling and it eliminated so many HORRIBLY TRAGIC shots. I can 100% confirm this is the best tip for most golfers. Great video!

Jim. Great videos. This video with the “Avenue of power “ video is so enlightening “to me” while trying to move to the next level of this swing. Been a student for 3 years. I play with 13 handicap to 20 handicap players and win 98% of the time. As a student, I think saying that alignment has been my biggest challenge with this new swing. However, the actual way to swing the club properly was the biggest mystery, and you have taught me how to do it. Understanding what you have been teaching as far as weight forward, leverage and letting it go has really hit home with these new videos. Thank you.

I have one question. When you address the ball with your shoulders in line with the target and put the ball in the middle of your stance, when you pull your trail foot back and turn your shoulders, do you reposition the ball in relation to the new line of your shoulders and feet? If you don't, doesn't that, in fact, position the ball much further toward your front foot?
For me yes. It feels like the ball is very forward. I just started trying this swing over the weekend, and at first I had the ball in the middle of my stance, and was hitting low bullet draws. Finally lined up where the ball felt like it was close to my front foot, and started hitting much higher shots.
I once tried this on a real golf course not at a range or mats. I either shanked or badly hooked almost every shot. And barely with any power. Whatever your view is of the golf swing, physics says that hands, arms and body play a role in a kinetic sequence. And you can’t change the laws of physics. I’m sure JV will chime in here and say I didn’t do it correctly or followed exactly what he said and I should buy his course. Did that already JV and we scrapped about it. You finally refunded me.

I just discovered your video yesterday. I struggle with pulling my irons left. I tried this method today with my PW and after about 30 minutes of getting used to it I was hitting shot after shot straight at my target. I normally hit my PW around 100 yards. I found with this method I have to use what “feels” like a lazy half swing to keep from hitting too far! I just kind of let the club fall and it’s right on path with a crisp strike. If this keeps working I am going to have to relearn my distances! Great problem to have!!!❤
First time today, I got a bucket of balls to try this technique. Bump and run, chips and pitches were like a miracle. Beautiful and effortless. Starting with half and three quarter swings, while I had no trouble keeping my body still, I quickly realized I was gripping the club far too tight to let it work. After fixing this I started hitting some really nice shots. My misses were usually thin and due to allowing my body to move on the backswing. I am looking forward to digesting this before another trip to the range. I am 76 and this looks like golf will get to be fun again. Thanks!
I love the swing. It has changed my game. Now hitting my 7 iron like a 5 iron. Will be signing up for the course. I know I’m missing out on major items. Best round I ever played. Went from major divots to a shallow descending swing
I have been a fan and student of Jim for the last five or so years. I signed up for the course for a period of time and tried to learn everything that I could. I have at different times thought I had come across the secret to consistently playing well like Jim does. Not until today did it finally dawn on me that not one single aspect of the swing outside of my core was going to solve my dilemma. Focusing on the core after setting up as best I could in the position that he recommends I was able to significantly reduce my strokes on a very difficult but short course. Thanks for this last video Jim it is a godsend.
Hit my best and most consistent shots when it “feels” like I’m simply swinging my arms. Finally able to be “still” when I began keeping my left shoulder where it started at set up.
Been practising your swing style for the past couple of weeks at the range and been hitting it ok. Took it to the course yesterday and for teh most part contact was pretty awesome. However, on one T shot with driver I managed to pinch my sciatic nerve, and still hit a great T shot, but struggled to even swing the club for the remainder of that particular ( a par 5 on which I took 12 ). Did some yoga stretches ( downdog and cobra) fora bout 5 minutes before teeing off on teh enxt hole and released the pinched nerve. Not a single draw with any of the shots, generally dead straight down the right side of the fairway, a baby fade or when my shoulders got invovled a very solid pull shot. Also tried the pivot to teh right side for my putting. Rolled the ball more consistantly and had better speed judgement. Didn't break 100 (never have on that particular course) but there was enough improved ball striking for me to continue working on this swing method. The 2 things I think I need to do are #1. close my stance more so that it's closer to 45* rather than around 30* where I had it AND #2. get the ball back towards the middle of my stance with my hydrids and irons.
I tried this today, works well. I always keep my core quiet.My contact is very good consistent and straight. My issue is distance. Iam 63 years old would like a little more distance with my irons and my driver.
Sir, i have been watching so many golf video lessons on youtube. You better make sure this one is the game changer otherwise another one frustrating to me . Too many variations makes game difficult no doubt about. I just want to know how to hit ball straight to the target. I would give my feed back about this swing after I go to range.
More range practice today with just 8 & 7 irons. Wasn't interested in distance just 1/2 swings. Hit 2 trays (80 balls total) and not a single draw. Almost every shot was dead straight at the target. Even experimented with Lee Trevino's open stance with weight on the lead side. Same results, dead straight, but not as far. The more closed I was at address after pivotong to the lead side, teh further right I hit the ball. The one thing I did notice is if I pivoted and then gripped the club my shoulders would come back to parallel and my dominant hand (right) and should would be activated, but I still manged to hit the ball fairly straight. Will keep working at it. Staying still is going to be the hardest part of this swing for me to master. After 50 years of having a crap swing I'm going to need to be patient and persevere with this.
If the ball wasn’t drawing, you weren’t closed enough either your shoulders in the set up or at impact. Considering you’ve played poorly for 50 years, quit wasting time and sign up for my school so you can learn the system properly from me.

I'm a retired 73 year old, living on a miserly partial aussie pension, plus for me to practice it's a 1 hour drive each way to the nearest range and no room at home either. The nearest golf course is 150kms from home, so I only get to play once a month which doesn't help. Also I never said I played poorly for 50 years, I said I've had a crap swing for 50 years. Even with that crap swing I managed to get down to an 8 handicap but that was when I was still living in Australia and could play twice a week and practice twice a week.
Hi jim. Love your teachings. My biggest problem is remaining closed. I set up fine focus on remaining still but when I have of days it’s because of my opening up. Are there any drills to keep shoulders closed ?
Focusing on stillness has allowed my swing to be so relaxed, it actually eliminates all the distractions of thinking about all the movements of the swing. Now after set up I just look at the ball and swing, the set up takes care of everything else.
Jim, is stillness similar to "planting your feet" with your setup? Dug up a lot of worms before I thought of planting my feet to achieve that elusive stillness. The ball got in the way when I did. Just started, so I'm hoping the same swing shows up next time I'm at the backyard net.

You would understand more what Jim teaches here if you know where to look. The stability of core muscle (from shoulder to pelvis) of his slight lumbar curve body posture functions against the stillness of his lower body generating the valuable torque, combined with his JVGA renowned closed stance set up pivoted on his left side for that powerful circular, shallow and decending inside to out swing path (the kill zone) freely travelled with his strong left arm/bowed wrist to square the club face sending the ball to fly high with a baby draw we all yearn for. Look for more vertical pressure in your pivot on the left... Jim Venetos "reinvents" and "owns" his swing, like Ben and Moe did in the long history of golf swing research. Never get tired to watch him swing. Like candy for your eyes.
Keeping the core still means you will always be at the exact low point at the down swing, which will be after the ball, in the circle of the hula hoop! When you’re not still, you have to catch up on a moving hula hoop, which is very difficult for almost everybody, unless you can play 8 hours a day and perfect all the movements.
Jim, great stuff. Innovative! Question: In some videos you seem to show that only your shoulders are closed to target whereas in other videos it looks like you are closing your lower body as well parallel to the shoulders. Can you please clarify. Much appreciated.
I have been playing golf for 33 years I have watched all the videos from all the great instructors leadbetter Harmon Ballard mike austin mike adams Eddie merrins all are good but with you I actually find the center of the face the only difference is I play with a neutral grip also tried stack and tilt similar but it never worked probably because I played from a square stance also tried Todd Graves all are fine instructors but never had me hit as solid even picked up some distance my advice is every golfer should try your method wish I new this 30 years ago

Hello Jim, traditional golf instructions teach us to rotate the body during the backswing until the left shoulder is under and touching our chin. Could you compare and explain this traditional skill with our method? Thanks.
If the lead shoulder acts as the center axis point for your swing. The more you move it, the more difficult it is to make consistent contact and the less centripetal/centrifugal force will be created.
This reminds me of "stack & tilt", but with a very closed stance. But, how do you keep from lining up too far right? Looks like you might progress to a sweeping hook with this set-up.

I have hundreds of videos explaining what I teach, how it’s very different from stack and tilt, how simple the alignment is to understand in this swing and how this swing produces a solid tight draw. 👊
Started using your swing when you were working with golf test dummy...the swing works IMO but you have to practice at the range. Don't think you can just go play like Jim. Practice Practice Practice

I think I'm too upright in my stance after watching this video.. My tendency is to take my arms too high and steep. I still have to consciously take my arms back low or I come into the ball too steep. I mean.. even with that "feel", its still MUCH easier to implement this than a "standard" swing...
Jim, your setup….. your right foot is dropped back some and flared out? In the video I couldn’t really tell what your target line was, so I couldn’t really how far back your right foot might be
Is this basically taking out the first steps of a normal swing? So in essence you are pre-set to uncoil and swing? Wish this guy would have a shot tracer and not hit off a mat in the desert in so many of his videos.
I’m a lifelong +2 - +5. My top student is a +7 that regularly qualifies for national amateur championships. If you think it’s a beginner swing, I’ll play you straight up for your house.

Instead, they only have 117 swing thoughts after they leave from the range after Lesson #1. It's a wonder anyone ever hits a golf ball, given the way "the modern gold swing" is taught.

Whether you like Jim or not you have to admit that what he is saying makes complete sense and is SO MUCH easier and consistent to perform than traditional golf instruction. This is just crazy. lol . I think you trying to say just use your arms when you play and not your body. That’s exactly what you doing on this video, you are keeping your body still and you are playing with your arms and hands . Just like Mike Malaska says , play golf with your hands . Just like the video with Tiger woods and Buch Harmon , they both saying start the downswing with your hands and not your hips . Ben Hogan made a big mess when he said that hips start the downswing . Every thing we do in life , through a rock, paint, eat , reach for food we do it with our hands we don’t turn our hands off and hope for the best . My opinion and many PGA tour players and coaches that say play with your hands and not with your body.
👊 Keeping the body still is how you use the body. You brace the body so the appendages can move freely. It’s only in the ignorance of popular golf instruction where moving the body is using the body and unfortunately, stillness is lost.
Jim's advice has dramatically improved my ball striking.

From 7:27 on that is gold , your body didn't move an inch but it was still a crisp lovely shot... I'll be watching this vied over and over..

I agree, if you notice the natural direction of arms is to to around the body and that’s why your position is close.

I hear you but you do bump laterally on the downswing. Is that bump a reaction to the closed stance and the momentum of the swing path?
Whatever moves is a product of stillness. If you bump, you won’t make the swing I make.

What kind of irons are you using!?
Currently Mizuno Pro 221 3-p, T22 wedges, and a mp14 1 iron because they don’t make 2 or 1 irons anymore. Shameful.

@@mperdi2860 odyssey black series and Titleist woods. I’ve never owned a hybrid, I play long irons.
Keeping the core still means you will always be at the exact low point at the down swing, which will be after the ball, in the circle of the hula hoop! When you’re not still, you have to catch up on a moving hula hoop, which is very difficult for almost everybody, unless you can play 8 hours a day and perfect all the movements.

Question: In some videos you seem to show that only your shoulders are closed to target whereas in other videos it looks like you are closing your lower body as well parallel to the shoulders. Can you please clarify.

I have been playing golf for 33 years I have watched all the videos from all the great instructors leadbetter Harmon Ballard mike austin mike adams Eddie merrins all are good but with you I actually find the center of the face the only difference is I play with a neutral grip also tried stack and tilt similar but it never worked probably because I played from a square stance also tried Todd Graves all are fine instructors but never had me hit as solid even picked up some distance my advice is every golfer should try your method wish I new this 30 years ago

Hello Jim, traditional golf instructions teach us to rotate the body during the backswing until the left shoulder is under and touching our chin. Could you compare and explain this traditional skill with our method? Thanks.
If the lead shoulder acts as the center axis point for your swing. The more you move it, the more difficult it is to make consistent contact and the less centripetal/centrifugal force will be created.

This reminds me of "stack & tilt", but with a very closed stance. But, how do you keep from lining up too far right? Looks like you might progress to a sweeping hook with this set-up.

At the range this gives real power improvement, 1 way miss, & better accuracy. On the course it is inconsistent and it is hard to comprehend why.
Mats vs grass and all sorts of different lies? Ball above feet, ball below feet etc.
This compliments what Tom Watson & Paddy Harrington recently said - "85% of speed speed comes from the hands & arms".
I have offset irons so I cant get that draw but I hit it solid and long but is the offset iron is the issue on drawing the ball????
Offset irons mean you should draw it more!

Started using your swing when you were working with golf test dummy...the swing works IMO but you have to practice at the range. Don't think you can just go play like Jim. Practice Practice Practice

@@jimvenetosgolf thanks Jim, been using your technique mostly with my 7 to PW....but I use your set up consistently for all my shots. Had 2 lower back surgeries one in '21 the other end of '23 this set up always an easier path for myself without too much back pain...to all keep STILL...it works

I think I'm too upright in my stance after watching this video.. My tendency is to take my arms too high and steep. I still have to consciously take my arms back low or I come into the ball too steep. I mean.. even with that "feel", its still MUCH easier to implement this than a "standard" swing...
Jim, your setup….. your right foot is dropped back some and flared out? In the video I couldn’t really tell what your target line was, so I couldn’t really how far back your right foot might be

I always enjoy Jim's videos, he knows the golf swing, but I nearly got sea sick on this one from frequently switching cameras.
All those years growing up, my parents were teaching me my golf swing when they told me to just stay still!

I’m a lifelong +2 - +5. My top student is a +7 that regularly qualifies for national amateur championships. If you think it’s a beginner swing, I’ll play you straight up for your house.

Instead, they only have 117 swing thoughts after they leave from the range after Lesson #1. It's a wonder anyone ever hits a golf ball, given the way "the modern gold swing" is taught.
@@sickofgovwaste totally agree with you. honestly I feel bad for the average golfer with the traditional information that they are being provided with. Whether you like Jim or not you have to admit that what he is saying makes complete sense and is SO MUCH easier and consistent to perform than traditional golf instruction. He may be the ONLY instructor that currently teaches a style like this and it is coming from a place of intelligence and experience.

This is just crazy. lol . I think you trying to say just use your arms when you play and not your body. That’s exactly what you doing on this video, you are keeping your body still and you are playing with your arms and hands . Just like Mike Malaska says , play golf with your hands . Just like the video with Tiger woods and Buch Harmon , they both saying start the downswing with your hands and not your hips . Ben Hogan made a big mess when he said that hips start the downswing . Every thing we do in life , through a rock, paint, eat , reach for food we do it with our hands we don’t turn our hands off and hope for the best . My opinion and many PGA tour players and coaches that say play with your hands and not with your body.
👊 Keeping the body still is how you use the body. You brace the body so the appendages can move freely. It’s only in the ignorance of popular golf instruction where moving the body is using the body and unfortunately, stillness is lost.
