Its a Titan Trigger Fish. They are very territorial. Especially when nesting. I have had more that my fair share of these fish chasing me in the Maldives.
According to locals this trigger fish are only aggressive when they are guarding their nest. Just turn back and they will leave you as soon as you are out of their NDZ (Nest Defense Zone).
This reminded me of the guy who got free access to our reef and daily free lunches from our resort by claiming to be marine biologist doing marine research. One day I found him looking for our General manager, demanding that there is a crazy fish that must be gotten rid of. He was bitten in both ears. I just told him that it's a mating Titan trigger fish guarding it's territory. He never came back to do marine research. I guess the fish really scared the shit out of him. Just like experts on MSM, this marine expert doesn't have clue about marine life.
I e been snorkeling in the Maldives so far only their friends the piccasso has been aggressive with me, I saw a huge titan and he was fine thankfully kinda scary !!
I was nipped on the finger by a Picasso Trigger in Mauritius. It had decided to make camp in the swim zone. Swimming close to the fish, it kept coming at me and swimming away at the last second. As we finally decided to leave it alone, it gave me a good riddance tap on the finger. No harm done to myself nor the Rhinecanthus aculeatus. I'm still a touch sad for not having my camera at all times in the water. It was a perfect moment with that fish.
@@Superstocker669 Not just at mating time, trigger fish are often notoriously ill-tempered, the male guards the eggs and may mate with more than one female so he is pretty busy! They are one of the more territorial species on and around reefs!
I was often with them in underwater, and im get very close to them to take good photos, never had problems with them. Good advice is to ask the locals about their actual situation.
No need to skip. They are in every coral reef. If they are not in nesting time and you not cross their nest in that time, they are harmless. Ask at best in advance if they are nesting time.
Normally they are a shy fish and difficult spot unless when they are guarding their territory during nesting. I used to go snorkeling often and never came across this Titan trigger fish. But I've caught a couple fishing off shore.
After i know this trigger fish was attack people , last week i was snorkling at perhentian island when i see this fish make me feel uncomfortable to snorkeling lel
Keine Panik. Wenn die nicht grade in der Paarungszeit sind, sind die total friedlich. Bin den immer richtig nahe gekommen um Fotos zu machen. Ohne Probleme. Also mal googlen wann die Nachwuchs haben.
I kinda wish our (Finescale) triggers here were that aggressive. Would making spearing them soooo much easier. Ours are shy AF, but taste so dang good.
Pretty sure if I came into your home and waved a camera in your face with the deliberate goal of eliciting a reaction, you’d act like just as much, if not more of, a brat than this trigger fish. #fishlove #fishsticks

In general only when they nesting and you are crossing their nesting area.

Lol 😂 Got that right
Imagine having to punch a fish with a camera. Lmao.
But in a severity you guys are lucky! Glad everyone was safe at the end.
Well they were trespassing on his property. 🤣
#triggered
Aside from the triggerfish, anyone else notice how clear and beautiful those waters are?
Damn, they sure are feisty little critters
Clearly this trigger fish was… TRIGGERED!
Makes me wonder if this is the fish Nintendo got the inspiration for cheep cheep in Super Mario World.
Hardly, I mean Cheep Cheeps are kind of calm, they just jump out of water, I mean compare their faces with the Titan Tiger 😂
Which resort island is these?
Attack my woman!!! war declared! say cheese... BONK!!!

me too in mauritius, it was so funny :D
fuffoon did it hurt?
It decided to make camp in the swim zone? Someone decided the swim zone was in its territory.
This happened to my partner a few days ago 😂 it freaked him out haha
He moved you along.
So the fish was... triggered?
Wonder why it was acting like that?
Because they are very territorial and they don't want anything near their mate or nest or hunting space, whatever they're trying to protect!
@@MJLeger-yj1ww but only in their pairing time. Rest of the year they ard absolut peaceful.

Trigger fish are amazing, one of my favorites. Good footage.
Oooh, the trigger fish nearly got the last laugh there.
Attacked me twice today in the Maldives very close to the shore (Summer Island Beach Resort)
Was about five feet from one last week while snorkeling in The Mamnucas, Fiji. Luckily it was too busy chomping on coral to take any notice of me.
I have had no problem with them at all. Only in their nesting time they can act like this
Saw it in maldives
SMACK I!
Where this happens? Thulhagiri?
Ok everybody back in the boat!! The little buggers are aggressive and determined. Think I’ll skip the Maldives!

I once caught one of these
goofy fish
What an attitude 🙁
It's the same attitude I have when someone wanders into MY house uninvited and starts taking pictures of everything.
1:03 bonk
Well why don t you get the message and leave this fish's area? You are provoking these attacks.
Triggered fish
So annoying.. well that's one way to get a closeup shot.
Do they bite?
yup they have a very strong jaw and sharp teeth they can cut off the top of your finger
So do I have a chance to go in the ocean and bite it’s head off for revenge
Just bring a diving knife and shank them if they come and attack
The same happened to me today lol 😂
