- Cab view of the third sector railway in Nagano Prefecture, shinanotetsudō, from Karuizawa Station to Komoro Station.
The Shinano Railway Line currently has two lines, with the section from Karuizawa Station to Shinonoi Station opening in October 1997.
With the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen, which runs parallel to this line, the existing railway was separated from JR and converted into a third sector railway.
This line was originally a JR line, and even earlier a Japanese National Railways line. Formerly known as the "Shin-etsu Main Line," it was built as a trunk line connecting the Tokyo area with the Nagano and Niigata areas.
Many of the long trunk lines of the Japanese National Railways were built to connect major cities around the country, and often passed through places that were not necessarily densely populated. This "Shin-etsu Main Line" is no different, and the areas along the line shown in this video are not densely populated.
Just as Karuizawa was a summer resort discovered by Westerners, the line passes through highland areas. Though not in the cab view, you can see the beautiful silhouette of Mount Asama from the train's north-facing window.
Just before Komoro Station, the unelectrified Koumi Line tracks run parallel to the left. This line is still run by JR. The Shinano Railway was originally built by the Japanese National Railways, so the stations are spacious (a necessity for trains pulled by steam locomotives) and the distances between stations are long. Im surprised at the amount of grass and weeds on the track
There are a lot of them these days. The railroad companies say it's because they've stopped using herbicides, but I get the impression they're becoming a little less disciplined.
I enjoyed the train ride on this line. I love the rides in the Japanese countryside because I love the beautiful scenery. Japan's countryside is very beautiful and I wish I can retire there one day. Thank you for this production (and others too).

My surgery was successful, but recovery is slow. I will be using crutches for a while. I am very grateful and thankful that all went well.
Congratulations on your release from the hospital. First of all, take your time and recover your strength. Eat lots of delicious food. No one will blame you for that.
Nagano Prefecture, which is shown in this video, is one of my favorite places. Karuizawa is a great summer resort (although it can get a bit crowded in the summer). I hope to go there again soon.
