"TAKE THEM OUT TAKE THEM OUT!" knowing what we know now, I hink Caleb was dreaming about the blue crystals being stabbed into his arms...poor guy needs a hug.
I'm going to miss Liam playing a spell caster. The way he described his spells was so beautiful. I love orym but Caleb is easily my favorite of liam's characters
Sameeee i love how he goes into great detail it helps me vision it i thought others may think it was like to long or dragged out so i never mention it but I’m glad to see u feel the sameeeee
By playing a character (bard pls) loosely inspired by William Shakespeare or his works? The college of tragedy was simply made for Liam and no amount of denial from the cast can dissuade me >_>
Spoiler alert: orym is not it.. no in all honesty if someone ever asks me how to create a cool char i will guide them towards campaign 2 this was crit role's peak imo every single char was absolutely incredible and the way they played of eachother.. my god every single episode was an art piece. And i dont wanna talk down C1 and C3 they are also awesome ofc but dont hold a candle to C2 imo. But C3 isnt over maybe it will change my mind. Cant wait for Mighty Nein animated.
When Caleb drops his backstory he recounts “people said I used to glide through life”. Cut to Essek, literally his mirror image as a man who literally glides through life. Matt’s attention to these little details is just top tier DMing
@@martinezmartinez6453 he walked when Essek was invited to the Zhor-house (I'm spelling it wrong) and said it was an appearance thing. That was probably the 3rd encounter or so
Travis: "Lets do it again." (The biggest dopiest smile) Liam: "From the top." (With a smile of a man who just said bye to his parents for the first time) It was a good story. *Sobbs loudly*
I know this is a Caleb complication, but like, I LOVE his relationship with Fjord, it’s so subtle and I think it’s just as important as the one he has with Beau. Everyone at the top table has such phenomenal sibling energy. I mean Fjord had a sword at this guy’s throat and now like, they’re blood brothers. Just, “we’ll make it work”
Liam approached spellcasting with the soul of an artist, both in the things he created and the way he described them at the table. It's so easy for magic to become boring and predictable in a setting where magic is a game mechanic. Caleb at his best made magic feel *special* and reminded the audience how magic can enrapture you beyond just the quest of individual characters to obtain more power. He honestly set the bar by which I judge all Wizards now, both in DnD and fantasy at large.
That line at 50:23, "I used to have a cat, I do not any longer", at that time everyone was like "Aww, they killed his feycat" but jesus that's a much more depressing line with what we now know.
A Caleb moment that rarely gets included but for some reason sticks with me is that moment in "The Howling Mines" when they're hiding and watching the knolls eat dead people, and Fjord tells everyone to be quiet and Caleb just throws up with perfect comedic timing. Idk why that moment sticks with me, but it does. I think more than just being kind of funny, I feel like in a strange way it tells you a lot about Caleb as a character. This man has done horrendously violent things in his past...but is somehow still a fairly squeamish person. I enjoy the DnD trope of wizards being squishy, and I feel like Liam plays that up for Caleb, but in a very unique way. I feel like when you play a character as dark as Caleb, you need to play up the parts of him that directly contrast that to still make him sympathetic. There is a part of him that is ruthless. But that part becomes so much more surprising and heartbreaking when Liam plays up how kind and meek and squishy he is. It's a small, funny, kind of gross moment...but it's good characterization.
Marisha's expression directly to camera starting at 1:35:06 when Beau realizes Caleb is covering for her to protect her badass image is *So. F/ing. Good.*
I'm going to miss them all. I hope we get a good amount of one shots featuring the mighty nein. I'd love to delve more into Uk'otoa with fjord & some kind of continuation with Caleb... A Veth & jester detective story would be crazy fun too
It's really impressive what can be done when you have hundreds of hours to dedicate to a single character. Add to that Liam's incredible writing and even better acting skills and you get this masterpiece
@@n1pah132 The amount of time is definitely a major component. I hadn't noticed quite how big a deal it was until I watched LOVM, but the moments just don't hit as hard without the hours spent leading up to them.
"I cast Disintergrate on everything in the room, and burn what's left" is such a top-tier RP moment I wouldn't have Liam take it back for anything... but even over a year on I'm still fascinated by how intricate Caleb's time-travel plan was, and how many safeguards and considerations he had prepared for to prevent a butterfly effect changing the trajectory of any other events. It's too centric to just one character for a one-shot, but a part of me wants a comic or novel in the future set in an alternate reality where Caleb went ahead with it with Essek's help to find out if it really could have worked.
I am JUST NOW realising how freaked out Matt looks when Liam calls the main hall of his tower 'Nonagonal' and keeps repeating the nonagon terminology. It almost mirrors Liam's freak out when Sam uses the name 'Bren' earlier on. 3:58:20.
There’s something about them all realising that Fjord’s powers are gone, and all being so willing to share their items with him is just so amazing,, I love them,,,
3:03:44 & 3:41:40 Caleb's Dome of Memories and the reveal of the Mansion will always be my favorite moments from CR. Caleb was a broken man who was saved by these people and he spent every moment since making sure they know they're special.
Hats off to SariaSpeaks for the insane amount of time and dedication for compiling all these clips, with timestamps, episode titles and everything. Holy cow! Thank you so much, this is a treasure trove.
the cut from "I think it's better I don't stick my neck out anymore than I already have" to the Astrid convo gave me whiplash and sent me into giggles. this is so well edited and i love your occasional comments. still in the middle of watching but i'm enjoying every second.
If you listen super carefully, Liam does say the G, but it's missed by others talking around him. The prospect, however, of the Mihty Nein is hilarious!
Spoilers below The last battle is my favorite Caleb moment. He just stared Trent down. He didn't move an inch. He didn't blink. He didn't flinch. He stared Trent down and took everything Ikithon threw at him. Especially with Veth's silent image of Caleb's parents standing next to Caleb. *Especially* when the death ward kicked in.
"In every barrel of apples there is one rotten one with a worm inside. *I am that worm."* Might not be the exact quote, but I do like and I think it fits quite well with how thoroughly he destroys Trent at the end.
GODDDD Liam’s character work or whatever is so amazing. So many details from Caleb’s backstory that are revealed later are eluded to so early it’s amazing
I honestly love Caleb so much, he was my favourite character in C2 (closely followed by beau and yasha) 4:13 *jerks awake from being unconscious * "TAKE THEM OUT, TAKE THEM OUT" oh my poor sweet child =(
When Caleb is drunk and Jester says "you are nice, and also a little stinky", Caleb replies "one of those things are true..." if it had become canon that Caleb is the dirt wizard at this point, that would make it the true statement. Leading to the conclusion that Caleb does not belive he is nice after his past. A really well done throwaway statement from Liam.
Matt's expression during Cad's talk of destiny at 1:52:58 is strangely moving, those little pulls at the sides of his mouth, it reminded me of someone fighting off tears or sadness. It just speaks to the extreme talent each cast member has imo.
The Mighty Nein are my favorite characters. I love them all...but the vulnerability of Caleb touches my heart. Even Liam discussing Caleb at SDCC brought us all to tears. I know characters are creations, but Caleb seems to be a personification of Liam himself.
Liam always skirts audience questions about how personal his characters are for a reason. It is not difficult to imagine that he uses them (especially Caleb and now Orym) therapeutically to explore and vent the things that have troubled him his entire life. Liam's raw sensitivity is what makes him such a sight to behold as he works his craft.
I discovered Critical Roll 3 months ago after being a D&D/Tabletop fan for 4 years. Thank you so much for putting this compilation of my favorite scarred yet skilled spellslinger together.
I love the caleb backstory moment, but I still wish the rest of the cast had been at the table. I would have loved to see their out-of-character reactions.
at the start of C2 Fjord was my auto favorite since Imma Warlock main, so it was awesome to finally see that in Critical Role. After having seen all of it, Caleb is by far one of the most complex, well thought out characters in CR history with an incredibly satisfying story arc. Liam plays the role perfectly, using a combination of his understanding of the 5e rule set alongside Caleb's personality to pull off some peak Wizard plays and uses of spells, such as the use of Mind Blank or Simulacrum. Truly one of the greatest CR characters to date. Fjord's still my favorite tho.
Man, I almost forgot about the episode 12 stand-off. Totally the first moment Fjord really acted like leader (and yeah I know they didn't exactly have just one leader but Fjord was the one who always made the tough calls)
1:49:23 this conversation, this episode is, to me, peak critical role. i remember watching this live back in november of 2019 and just being floored by how good the non existent writing was, this is the boys at their best, that was the best time of my life. i miss it so much, playing dishonoured with critical role playing in the background. such lovely times. campaign 3 has lost this magic, besides orym there are no characters that can sustain this level of immersive role play without matthew being apart of it.
I've realized why Viktor is my favorite character in Arcane...it's because of Caleb. I just enjoy nerdy soft-spoken magic boys with with European accents and questionable morals who are (most likely) bisexual now. Gotta be my new favorite character type. also Liam wearing a t-shirt with a cat thinking about a house on fire...first of all how dare you sir
My favorite aspect of Caleb was that he had a grand goal in mind and I really enjoyed the aspects early on in the Campaign where he seemed willing to fight Fjord for his own desires. It was just interesting having someone like that in the group
I told all my friends to just skip around using Flando’s timestamps whenever they got bored. I skipped through countless whole episodes in ~30 minutes to 1 hour that way, and I still got most of the major plot points, if there were any. Because sometimes the episodes really are just a few minutes of important conversation, several battles, and lots of banter! Which is fun if you have time to sit and chill, but I was trying to get through to bigger plot points, so I kept cruising.
I'm wracking my brain trying to remember a clip, where I think it's Jester and maybe Nott, doing very florid spell descriptions and then Caleb deadpans, "I cast polymorph (I think that's the spell, I could be wrong) at Third Level" I may be paraphrasing, but it's something like that. Anyone else remember that little exchange? Any idea when it happened?
It’s waaaaay later on in *spoilers* Aeor. There’s a channel that does Supercuts of later episodes that are like 20-30 min long, and that exchange is in it. The channel is “marisharaygun” and it’s awesome. I wanna say start watching around episode 120 and you’ll eventually catch it
Looking back on it, Caleb was my favorite member of the m9. Though I loved cad and beau, I just really like the bisexual mess that shares the name of widoghast
The level of self hatred, and pain and futility. The desire to expend himself to undo what was done. The way he woke up, screaming "take them out take them out" from that liminal space of the 6th room on his private floor. The memory of what Trent did to him. His twisted self cruelty in how he views his redemption. As a tool he can use, himself just an interchangeable dead on a handle. Trent was successful in creating a vengeful purifier for the empire. But he made it too perfect. So perfect that it saw the evil it was becoming. And held no compunction against it's function. And then love. Kindness. Compassion. Empathy. Selflessness. Selfishness. All of it. And Mercy. More mercy that Caleb could ever comprehend because he "doesn't deserve it". Because he killed any mercy he held for himself or things like him. And even beyond all of that. He was.....able to laugh. He was able to smile. To feel happy. Genuinely happy. Even for a moment.
I wish this campaign could've gone forever because I fell in love with the group and its dynamics. It is selfish and I know it couldn't have happened but I'll miss them all. I hope that there is more content that they'll do with the Mighty Nein in the future.
It’s just so angsty… I mean good, great, outstanding character! But dang! I feel bad for Liam, I feel like his face hurt from deadpan/frowning for five hours.
i love hoe caleb goes from a quirk guyy i can relate because social anxiety and not liking to socialize to BOOM traua he killed his familly to go back to being akward and anxious boi
i just realized he shouted "TAKE THEM OUT TAKE THEM OUT" which either means them out ie SPOILERS his parents- out of the burning house or more likely take the gems out of his arms
To this day, i still don't understand why they thought the tripod to hold the Dodecahedron was important beyond ''holding it up for inspection''. Dnd groups are Wierd yo ( my own was obsessed with red boxes for months).

You are an amazing person, Thank you!
Five hours of specifics. Dear god man.
Caleb was so happy to get the greater invisibility scroll from sutan's house as it was a part of his grand plan.
"TAKE THEM OUT TAKE THEM OUT!" knowing what we know now, I hink Caleb was dreaming about the blue crystals being stabbed into his arms...poor guy needs a hug.
Either that or his parents from the house. I'll be honest I hadn't considered the crystals but now that seems even more likely
Yeah it was confirmed in one of the Talks that he was talking about the crystals
Yeah it's the residuum crystals. It's been confirmed by Liam.
Watch Travis' face in that moment: it looks like he is immediately aware that something ain't okay.
That didn't even dawn on me until now
I'm going to miss Liam playing a spell caster. The way he described his spells was so beautiful. I love orym but Caleb is easily my favorite of liam's characters
I think Caleb is honestly my favorite D&D character
Agreed, Caleb is so cool
Sameeee i love how he goes into great detail it helps me vision it i thought others may think it was like to long or dragged out so i never mention it but I’m glad to see u feel the sameeeee
Caleb was and is my favorite character and I so agree about his spell descriptions
The way he describes Orym cutting tendons and flipping around is pretty sick though
Caleb Widogast was Liam’s triumph and I just don’t know how he will ever top it.
When Caleb drops his backstory he recounts “people said I used to glide through life”. Cut to Essek, literally his mirror image as a man who literally glides through life. Matt’s attention to these little details is just top tier DMing
i don't know if that was fully intentional. However an awesome detail

@@martinezmartinez6453 he walked when Essek was invited to the Zhor-house (I'm spelling it wrong) and said it was an appearance thing. That was probably the 3rd encounter or so
@@carlsmagicbicep9736 yeah but I meant I swear Matt didn’t mention floating at first just that he walked airily or something idk

Travis: "Lets do it again." (The biggest dopiest smile)
Liam: "From the top." (With a smile of a man who just said bye to his parents for the first time)
It was a good story.
Just, “we’ll make it work”
Caleb's tower will never not impress me. That was some of the sweetest storytelling I've seen in some time
Liam approached spellcasting with the soul of an artist, both in the things he created and the way he described them at the table.
It's even worse reading the comic. It wasn't just his parents screaming there. He saw Frumpkin against the windowpane trying to get out.
@@Geth-WhoOh damn I need to get those comics
When Sam roasted Liam for having super bleak characters I was like "Because everytime he plays a tragic character he kills it!"
“Anyone can make lights. Anyone can send a message though a wire. I want to bend reality to my will.”
One of Calebs many great quotes.
Marisha's expression directly to camera starting at 1:35:06 when Beau realizes Caleb is covering for her to protect her badass image is *So. F/ing. Good.*
oh man I love Caleb so much, I'm going to miss him but I'm looking forward to campaign 3.
I'm going to miss them all. I hope we get a good amount of one shots featuring the mighty nein. I'd love to delve more into Uk'otoa with fjord & some kind of continuation with Caleb... A Veth & jester detective story would be crazy fun too
@@dennisellis3605 And the mysterious and enigmatic pirate of the revelry, kingsley tealeaf, and their ship the Mollymauk.
1:11:30 "are you secretly in love with me?" SHE FUCKING HIT THAT SHIT RIGHT ON THE HEAD WITH THAT HOLY BEJEEZUS
Caleb is my favorite character in fiction by this point. I will miss him as well
Sad wizard boi ftw
It's really impressive what can be done when you have hundreds of hours to dedicate to a single character. Add to that Liam's incredible writing and even better acting skills and you get this masterpiece
@@n1pah132 The amount of time is definitely a major component. I hadn't noticed quite how big a deal it was until I watched LOVM, but the moments just don't hit as hard without the hours spent leading up to them.
REAL caleb widogast is number 1
I sure hope you’re watching campaign 3 then
"I cast Disintergrate on everything in the room, and burn what's left" is such a top-tier RP moment I wouldn't have Liam take it back for anything... but even over a year on I'm still fascinated by how intricate Caleb's time-travel plan was, and how many safeguards and considerations he had prepared for to prevent a butterfly effect changing the trajectory of any other events.
I'll be honest, I'm not seeing it. Maybe I'm just bad at seeing through poker faces though.
The whole Nonagon thing is insane, from the very start of the campaign to the very end, the number 9 floated above EVERYTHING
There’s something about them all realising that Fjord’s powers are gone, and all being so willing to share their items with him is just so amazing,, I love them,,,
Caleb putting that mirror in Beau’s room was a top 5 moment for me. The love he has for his friends is deep and well documented.
1:53:00 "the tree doesn't know what its going to fruit" god-damn tal has some amazing quotes especially as cad
Anyone else just realize that 4:17, Caleb was screaming about the crystals being put into his arms?
I thought it was about Caleb's parents and the burning house when he finally snaps out of the brainwashing; that works too!
@@Techy2112 it is the crystals! He mentions it in a Talks Machina episode
I enjoy that the ledgers say Mihty Nein and that everyone spells it incorrectly given that this is technically the correct spelling.
If you listen super carefully, Liam does say the G, but it's missed by others talking around him. The prospect, however, of the Mihty Nein is hilarious!
GOD I forgot about Caleb spelling out the whole name, that was so funny holy crap
god i forgot how delicious the ep 12 standoff between caleb and fjord was
I honestly think it's better after the rewatch. Once the whole M9 is super close, it's so intense to see clips of them at each other's throats.
I was already in love with Caleb and was super mad at fjord.
Spoilers below
The last battle is my favorite Caleb moment.
*I am that worm."*
Might not be the exact quote, but I do like and I think it fits quite well with how thoroughly he destroys Trent at the end.
GODDDD Liam’s character work or whatever is so amazing. So many details from Caleb’s backstory that are revealed later are eluded to so early it’s amazing
That final goodbye from matt at the very end always gets me
I love how in character Liam gets
I am going to miss Caleb SO MUCH. His character was AMAZEBALLS!
I honestly love Caleb so much, he was my favourite character in C2 (closely followed by beau and yasha)
4:13 *jerks awake from being unconscious * "TAKE THEM OUT, TAKE THEM OUT" oh my poor sweet child =(
everyone else laughing but matt just 😏 he knows what thats about and that they'll think back on it later and just go "oH"
Was that referring getting the crystals out of his arm?
@@Hazza323 either that or his parents in the fire
@@Hazza323 yes
@@T0NI_ Or his parents burning alive.
Calebs “take them out!” At 4:15 is a lot more sad when you know his story
When Caleb is drunk and Jester says "you are nice, and also a little stinky", Caleb replies "one of those things are true..." if it had become canon that Caleb is the dirt wizard at this point, that would make it the true statement. Leading to the conclusion that Caleb does not belive he is nice after his past. A really well done throwaway statement from Liam.
I love that frumpkin slowly went from being a female cat to a male one. Lol
we stan a gender fluid feline
Matt's expression during Cad's talk of destiny at 1:52:58 is strangely moving, those little pulls at the sides of his mouth, it reminded me of someone fighting off tears or sadness. It just speaks to the extreme talent each cast member has imo.
i think he was itching his nose
Liam's Caleb was the main reason I watched CR Campaign II
The Mighty Nein are my favorite characters. I love them all...but the vulnerability of Caleb touches my heart. Even Liam discussing Caleb at SDCC brought us all to tears. I know characters are creations, but Caleb seems to be a personification of Liam himself.
Liam always skirts audience questions about how personal his characters are for a reason. It is not difficult to imagine that he uses them (especially Caleb and now Orym) therapeutically to explore and vent the things that have troubled him his entire life. Liam's raw sensitivity is what makes him such a sight to behold as he works his craft.
I really forgot how much of Caleb is just depressing.
Yeah who woulda thunk it? Turns out trauma isn’t fun.
"...And there's Caleb, with the powers of introspection and existential dread"
One of the newest ads. It's true. Caleb is a sad, sad boi
hes a perfect character and I thank Liam for allowing the world to see him.
The fact that it's almost 6 hours of content makes me smile
Almost 6 hours of Caleb giving his loved ones beautiful speeches and pep-talks
rewatching the Caleb backstory talk with Beau and Caleb is wild after episode 141, ngl
I remembered his backstory completely.. But somehow I forgot how bad it hurts to listen to him tell it.. Oof.
"Frumpkin?" Big smile...slowly fades into horror as the realization kicks in.
1:17:37 no friend to the empire still my favorite moment of campaign 2. Such a power play. Still gives me chills.
at the start of C2 Fjord was my auto favorite since Imma Warlock main, so it was awesome to finally see that in Critical Role.
Fjord's still my favorite tho.
i will never get over him caleb widogast you are the best character to exist in our universe
Oh wow, what an awesome undertaking. And thank you for the timestamps!
Bless this video and all your hard work! Caleb, too, is very near to my heart and soul.
Man, I almost forgot about the episode 12 stand-off. Totally the first moment Fjord really acted like leader (and yeah I know they didn't exactly have just one leader but Fjord was the one who always made the tough calls)
Campaign 1: Vaxleth being one of the most loving and beautiful relationships in CR
Campaign 2: 30:35
1:49:23 this conversation, this episode is, to me, peak critical role. i remember watching this live back in november of 2019 and just being floored by how good the non existent writing was, this is the boys at their best, that was the best time of my life. i miss it so much, playing dishonoured with critical role playing in the background. such lovely times. campaign 3 has lost this magic, besides orym there are no characters that can sustain this level of immersive role play without matthew being apart of it.
4:11 Matt’s face watching Liam drops this backstory hint/detail I would be IN AWE
The emotion in Caleb's voice at 4:50 is intense and raw. You can feel his anger.
the "do you love her" bit GOD just RIP MY SOUL OUT IT WOULD HURT LESS
timestamp?
@@splatcat9 2:29:32 is the clips beginning
“It’s too late, Yasha. It’s too late.” bro 😔
I've realized why Viktor is my favorite character in Arcane...it's because of Caleb. I just enjoy nerdy soft-spoken magic boys with with European accents and questionable morals who are (most likely) bisexual now. Gotta be my new favorite character type.
also Liam wearing a t-shirt with a cat thinking about a house on fire...first of all how dare you sir
i just love how Depressing/ sad Campaign 2 was. and i Think Caleb's Character was a big contribute to that
Jester: Are you secretly in love with me?
Caleb: 👁👄👁
My favorite aspect of Caleb was that he had a grand goal in mind and I really enjoyed the aspects early on in the Campaign where he seemed willing to fight Fjord for his own desires. It was just interesting having someone like that in the group
I just realized that the take them out scream was not for crossbow bolts but for the crystal implants
Thank you for this awesome compilation of our favorite squishy wizard!! 🔥 🐈 ✨ 📖
Nott and Caleb’s relationship was probably my favorite
I am gonna be honest I myself was never able to get past ep 7 of this campaign because it felt like I never made progress but Caleb is my favorite
I think episode 11ish is where things get more serious.
I wanna say start watching around episode 120 and you’ll eventually catch it
Polymorph is a fourth level spell.
@@TheThreeHeadedDragon it was Fly
Looking back on it, Caleb was my favorite member of the m9. Though I loved cad and beau, I just really like the bisexual mess that shares the name of widoghast
The wording that Caleb uses for certain things is *chef's kiss*
Liam is so incredibly GOOD at creating such an interesting character.
I wish this campaign could've gone forever because I fell in love with the group and its dynamics.
It is selfish and I know it couldn't have happened but I'll miss them all.
I hope that there is more content that they'll do with the Mighty Nein in the future.

i was sort of on the fence bcs i have so much work to do.... but yeah i'm gonna finish this campaign. i got all the way up to the 110s
it’s so worth it. the last arc is iconic and probably the best of the campaign. so much character-driven narrative.
I hope you managed it. It's so worth it.
How do I keep forgetting that Caleb fucking Widogast once voiced Gaara?
Caleb Widogast is a masterpiece character
I love Cadeceus' greenbean monologue

It’s just so angsty…
I mean good, great, outstanding character!
But dang! I feel bad for Liam, I feel like his face hurt from deadpan/frowning for five hours.
i love hoe caleb goes from a quirk guyy i can relate because social anxiety and not liking to socialize to BOOM traua he killed his familly to go back to being akward and anxious boi
i just realized he shouted "TAKE THEM OUT TAKE THEM OUT" which either means them out ie SPOILERS
