    I was sceptical going into Toonsquid, a new iPad Animation app. But it won me over with some really cool features usually only found in desktop animation apps.

    Toonsquid, Procreate, Nomad Sculpt... What do they all have in common? Yes, they're all iPad apps, that give creators powerful tools in a compact, lightweight device, but more than that, they are all upfront single purchases. No subscriptions.

    Fun fact for anyone down in the comments here, if you're worried about the import feature into the library and only being able to import one image at a time, you can import more than one image at once! Click the plus button, import from photos (as you have to do photos for it sadly) then press and hold on an image and it will allow you to select multiple to import! I am unsure if it works for files but you can try that as well with files. Hope this helps anyone :D

    It seems like animation apps on the iPad are slowly getting better, but it still feels like the skill ceiling on an app like this is much lower than some of the apps on desktop. I'm still waiting on the day Toon Boom Harmony is ported to iPad (hoping that since Harmony 21.5 they moved to being M1 native, we see an iPad version at some point in the future).

    • @pablomonzon87
      @pablomonzon87 ปีที่แล้ว

      i´d love that, or TVpaint wich is my dream, but i´m afraid that day is not coming any soon. This animation companies are very reticent to do that. The best animation app right now, take it or leave it, is Clip Studio Paint. I think it´s really professional beyond the awckward timeline and frame management.

    • @SkipperWing
      @SkipperWing ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Agreed.
      I was super excited to move to ToonSquid (pretty much everything I do that isn't animation, I do on iPad, nowadays). But a bit of chug eventually developed in a workfile I was doing because I was working purely in vectors, which TS wasn't fully equipped to handle. There's also the issue of not being able to distort symbols the same way you can in the desktop apps (yet, anyway).
      I'd also love for ToonBoom to come to the iPad, but I hope that, if they do, its in a form where the interface is designed for the tablet (and not having access to a keyboard/hotkeys) rather than simply porting over the desktop application.

    • @LucasSaturn
      @LucasSaturn ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@SkipperWing Honestly I just want Toon Boom to be directly ported, with no UI change. I think the biggest issue these iPad apps have, is they want to make everything touch accessible, but that means they just can't implement a lot of key functionality in an understandable way for touch.
      I think the best example is DaVinci Resolve - they've managed to port the key functionality so far (with more coming), whilst keeping it (as far as I can tell) quite close to the desktop app. That is what I'm after, desktop power in a portable application.

    • @lucasbicalho7703
      @lucasbicalho7703 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I wish I could have Toonboom for iPad as well, although I wouldn’t mind if they would have to simplify it and make it cheaper, cuz I think I’d skip if the license was to be the same price as the desktop

    • @pablomonzon87
      @pablomonzon87 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@LucasSaturn That´s one of the reasons Clip Studio is the best app in Ipad. It´s exactly the same desktop app, with all the features. They prove it can be sucesfully done. Of course there is a suscription, i know, but no one else did a 100% port version like them.
      Fresco is taking Procreate place too, especially in animation. Why, Procreate, why did you turn to 3d?? :(

    I like in adobe animate to use the stroke brush tool over a form to be able to separate it and then using the fill tool with too different colors and after that erase this stroke on all the images by once with the multi edit, which is a real time saver. There are some similar things like process on toon squid or the easiest way finally is to use the toogle mask? I hope I was clear and thank you in advance :)

    This is gonna be so helpful since I do tweening for gacha videos but I use CapCut and it’s quite unhelpful and has limited layers /overlays which I don’t like so this will definitely be of help!

    5:44 Hi~ Thank for sharing this great animation application !
    Can you make a vid of which app you used for your voice recording and how you imported that voice file into this app?
    Doesn't this app have any recording function ?

    Toon squid is the best, wish you could have a fast sidebar library, not just key markers, but same concept drag and drop.

      Quicker interface. Way faster and Easier to use. Procreate should just stick to wat it knows. Painting and drawing. Dreams sux 😂

    Hey, Brad. I would love to see a comparision between ToonSquid and the animation features of Adobe Fresco. I downloaded this app several months ago (after watching this video), but then stumbled on the previously unheard of Adobe Fresco. They have a some cool features for non-animators like myself to create animations quickly (animations that track on a drawn path without frame by frame drawing, cloning an animation to make a swarm of them quickly, etc).
    I want to find a simple to use animation app that allows me to skip as much frame by frame drawing as possible. I have seen glimpses (such as using a puppet in Adobe Character Animator, animatiing on a path in Fresco, the quick keyframe animation in ToonSquid, etc), but none of the programs seem much faster than the others.
    What is the simplist, fastest app to animation simple animations for a non-animator? I'm a teacher and like to animate the curriculum we are learning to help keep my student's attention. We move pretty quick so I can not spend a month on a 3-4 minute animation.
    I do not like the look of Animaker, whiteboard animations, etc. I would like to create my own characters, etc....but much more quickly.

      I've been considering getting an ipad just for this. As a pro who uses animate (the program I love and will never stop using) do you think it's possible to work with both this and animate? Using this on the go and working in animate at home? I'm very inexperienced but have recently been going hard in the animation game
