      So not only does everything Changes, but soon the Batllegrounds will be joined. Beware Harry's lack of memory when he is so overworked he has to shorten his journal titles to a single word. By the way It's nice to know you have made it to Harry Dresden the human cannonball. Also from what he hinted at in this interview it sounds like we will be seeing a reappearance of Goodman Gray in future books, probably one of the best new characters he has introduced, other than a certain dog owner and his dog Spot.

      Have YOU been spoiled? :)
      I'm starting to watch the video now, and I can't imagine not knowing the major shifts that start at book 11 and echo onwards and trying to talk about the series. So much stuff changes after, well, Changes (book 12), it's almost like an entirely new series from that point forward (almost). So I'm curious to see how you navigate this conversation, without being aware of the drastic developments that already occurred in the main story.

    Butcher's incredible modesty shows through in his first-person narrative and it warms my heart. Be it Spiderman or Dresden, Butcher always goes to length to show how bad-ass everyone ELSE is in the universe. IDK, it might be some of the best humble bragging in literature RN.

  • @KipIngram
    @KipIngram 4 ปีที่แล้ว +39

    53:30 - Yes, Jim - we were waiting for a long time. But honestly, my biggest concern was that you'd just gotten tired of Dresden. I hope that's not offensive - someone might say that "For a professional it shouldn't matter." But professional or not, a person is always going to produce more greatness when they're inspired than when they're not. That's just human nature. I'm nothing like you; my specialty is in digital circuit design. But it still involves "gray matter creativity," and when the "magic" isn't there, it's just not there. But here the new books are (BOOKS ARE - not BOOK IS), and all is redeemed. You just can't tell everyone everything that's going on, so we will worry, because we're eager to follow this story to the end. Honestly, everything you've orchestrated over the last few weeks is just 100% spot on - the train is on the tracks and is sailing on for the next destination.
    You are the best writer I've ever read - bar none. Here's to you - good luck during these difficult times, take care of yourself and your family, and we will be here when you bring us new stuff.
    Thanks for the fictional ride of my life.

      @@holywaterbottle3175 I didn't love Blood Rites but I am a bit nostalgic because it was my intro of the series. It was also a nice break to the "world ending" cases. Lara is a cool character. When you read _Fool Moon_, please be aware that this is the absolute worst book in the series. Jim was still learning his craft, and overused his expository device (Bob the Skull). That whole interaction was too hard to swallow... a Wizard has to be taught about werewolves? And it turns out that there was a whole pack of werewolves operating in his town and he didn't know it? Other than that, the novel seemed a bit too over the top. Plow through it, and know that every book in the series is BETTER than that one. And... watch for loose ends. genericpoptart1 Thanks for the recommendation. I love when an audiobook narrator is a perfect fit for the book they’re reading, so I’ll use an audible credit on the first book to check it out.

      uptown3636 Just take the first 2 books for what they were, a first attempt at writing. They get better with each new book both in terms of story and writing style.

      genericpoptart1 I have heard that from a couple of people, so I’m prepared to soldier on until the series hits its stride. Are they at least entertaining on their own terms?

    That beard makes Jim look like a wise old wizard. Maybe he's trying to tell us something?

    I was lucky to run into Jim Butcher completely by chance after being a big fan. Was at the Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede and after the show got up to leave and turned around to see this guy leaving with his family. Had to do a double take and waited for him *totally not in a creepy way* after the show until he came out and got him to sign my ticket! It's still my bookmark to this day!

      Just noticed that Jim almost slipped up by referencing Mab saving Dresden, that's some spoiler-y info for Daniel.

    I was so happy when I heard that a new Dresden book was coming out. I was terrified that he had just gotten bored and given up on him. Now 2 books in one year?? *eyes water and fit pumps the air* I’ve also read the first book of cinder spires series and I am salivating to get that next one. THANK YOU JIM!!!

    I'm 45, and i Fuckin LOVE The Dresden Files!!! Jim Butcher's writing is phenomenal. That writing teacher didn't know shit about what your fans love. Butcher connects so many differ lores and works that we've read in other stories. Like the Never Never works where the Faie and other magical creatures come from, which is also where Peter Pan and the Lost boys live. Santa Claus is really Oden, there's just so much to enjoy. Full Moon got me hooked, and I've read every Dresden Files book at least twice. Thank you so much Jim for your work. 👍🏾👍🏾✊🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
