The US is also seeing this issue where all but freight locomotives are being built by European and Asian firms. Anything American after the Genesis has been god awful
Pretty good at engineering the architecture of the processors in every phone. So we’ve got that. Crossrail looks pretty amazing too. UK car plants churn out quality cars every day. But let’s just sit in our armchairs and claim we’re hopeless.
The windscreen issue was absolutely fixed. Infact, it was discovered before the trains entered passenger service and that was the major reason for the delay resulting in 365 deployment. The windscreens on the drivers side were replaced on every unit.
Take these everyday to work. Fast, Smooth and all. a big improvement on the Queen street line via Falkirk High compared to the Turbostars. The seats are disgraceful, but otherwise, a lovely bunch.
Id say that the problem is Hitachi had to source everything that was certified in Europe, which meant that most of the stuffs passengers see had literally nothing to do with Japan.
Hitachi is a good brand. Built the E5, E6, E7 and E8 shinkansens as well as brilliant Tokyo Metro trains (17000 series). Hitachi has no type of train nameplate in Japan, only A-Train. For example, the Sotetsu 20000 series (my favourite A-Train due to it’s quality) is part of the AT100 family but the family was just A-Train. As for the quality, it’s something you expect from pure Japanese quality. So the 385 is similar though a different type and design for European standards. But Hitachi trains built in UK are just a joke and shame for Japanese trains themselves. If they were made locally in Japan like the 395, it would be a lot better in quality though I am not sure about the shipping process 😅. Anyway, brilliant video mate!
With the planned partial electrification of the Fife circle by the end of 2025 it will be interesting to see if the 385 BEMU offer is revisited or Scotrail go the FLIRT route. Either way, with the apparent lack of any official tendering process together with the electrification work having seemingly stalled I don't see a decision being made anytime soon.
@@gapthemind--mindthegap8524 there are lots of them in Japan, although they aren't usually publicized as AT100s. These include : the 735, EV-E801, 815, 817, BEC819, and 305 series for Japan Railways, the 10000, 15000, 16000, 17000, and 18000 series for Tokyo Metro, and the list goes on

Japanese company, but made in UK, with all the flaws of doing this... I am beginning to think the UK is unable to build anything any more.

Its just making sure certsin safety specs are met. It seems like they are rushed.

thanks for the correction, my script notes were ordered badly 😅
Pity the squashed drivers, though.

I see good quality video.
I click.
I enjoy.
Awesome video watched it 3 times! I wonder what text font you used for the video
Its not that theyve been forgotten, theres just not enough to make them noticeable down south
Class 385 just like class 156 is my 1st fravet train

I will admit the class 385 is probably one of my favorite trains. Sure some people seem to disagree with me but that is understandable.
this was the first train i rode once getting into scotland last year. i got to say theyre pretty weird to look at but a decent ride
lots of information in a good video
Horrid ugly front ends with cramped cabs, pity the driver. Quite good window alignment for passengers and the seats are OK.
Interesting video. Thanks to the TH-cam algorithm for recommending me this informational video. I'm your 123rd subscriber :)))

good stuff
Although not hitachi trains, hitachi traction packages are used on southeasterns class 465s
Just inverters nothing else
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good content
I like how this is similar to my own series 'Transport Summary' but better in every conceivable way.
I’ll make sure I watch it!
We dont even have any AT100s in existence. Theres only one set in the world and i think thats the SRT redline in Thailand.
I never said they existed, that is true though :)
@@willridestrains you didnt say it, but i was pointing out the rarity of the AT100s concept. Idk if other countries have it. Maybe only japan

Might as well call it the Albert or the Lord Tensei. A Train was never really good solo

Great video . Like me .
don't forget the 395 javelins
I did mention those once or twice
@@willridestrains fair enough I probably wasn't listening properly 😂
You might consider speaking a wee bit more slowly...for the older adults in your audience.
Of course! I do apologise... it's a bit of a habit...
