hi. if you can see the grid it's generally considered too hot. that's the thought behind normal vfd operation. that is also a longevity consideration. a really neat adaptation of an older technology.
This is sweet, I was thinking of this when nutubes first came out, why not use a couple power resistors in a voltage devider configuration for the heaters?
Great work! I should start experimenting... Maybe ssrp circuit or other filament current can make it a proper preamp tube to drive a 300b or other fancy output tube. Some promo for the idea, and audiphiles might just buy it.... All remaining vhs rigs being hunted down..
Hi Rob! does that mean that in a multiple digit device they are equivalent number of triode? Though than you for sharing this stuff I was searching for about some month ago! cheers kik
I really hacked this together but I am working on a better version using a boost converter to up the plate voltage. I'll put the schematic in that upcoming video. Thanks for the comment!
Thanks man!!!! Hope it works for you!!! I just posted a video intro of a vintage 4 valve portable record player. If you're interested and have time take a watch and leave me a comment on your thoughts :)

I would make a guitar pedal with this. Thanks for the idea.
Hello Rob! Crazy and genius too! Goog good job.
That is really cool. Any way to get a copy of your schematic?
Have done anymore experimenting with the DIY NuTube?

I wonder if vfd is microphonic at all like the Nutube. Love to hear something out of it. Cool video. Subscribed
sometimes the heaters start resonating if the speaker is close to the vfd, in my case a lot more than a regular tube.
100%, they gotta be.
can you set the bins on that scope to 2048 might be a bit slower but might give a better FFT.
what if you drop from 12Vto 3volt via 7812->7808->3Vreg.

This comment is so underrated!
This is cool as fuck. I would love to try this. Would you be willing to share your schematics? Thanks in advance :)
Love from Canada :)

how about playing a guitar?
That's fair :-)
