    In our jumping gaps video, we looked at a trials technique often called the bunny hop. But it is definitely easier if you can use a kicker, also sometimes called a lifter. A kicker is an object used in trials to launch a bike through the air, either on to or over large obstacles. What is this cross training? A small group of Australian riders decided to take on the challenge of learning these techniques in their early 50s, figuring it was now or never to learn some serious enduro skills such as how to use kickers before their creaking bodies said enough is enough. A little over a year ago they started pouring over extreme enduro video footage for tips on extreme techniques, and bought trials bikes to develop the skills like using kickers that Graham Jarvis kept emphasising.
    Kickers are great for getting over logs, clearing gaps, and even jumping a flooded stream if it isn't too wide.
    You need to jump down on the footpegs when using a kicker. With good timing and technique, this should have the bike clearing the obstacle ahead, or landing you a fair way up the obstacle so you can ride over it. If you are thinking of getting into extreme enduro, or simply want to take your riding to the next level, this cross training approach to dirt riding is definitely worth a try. Not surprisingly, trials skills are most easily learnt on a trials bike. Consider getting a trials bike and joining a club.
    As with so many of these techniques, timing is important so that your suspension, body weight and throttle are all timed correctly to use the kicker.
    The vast majority of the skills are directly transferable to your enduro bike. Obviously the enduro bike is heavier, you have less grip, and your body weight won't influence the bike as much, but the key dirt riding skills are all there for the taking. Try the zap. The zap is just trials speak for dropping the clutch to get extra acceleration.

    I like how you include the bigger gentleman in your videos. It shows you don't need to be super fit to have fun and enjoy your bike!

      ConditionSix yep, and he's a B grade trials rider so way ahead of the vast majority of guys on a trials bike. a few judgmental dickheads have made fun of his weight but i just ban them from the channel... :-)

      +CROSS TRAINING, ENDUROCROSS & ENDURO TECHNIQUES Is he still included in your current videos? I haven't seen him in awhile. (did he get a new bike?)

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no he's stayed in the trials scene and moved more in the vintage trials bikes. all those shots of him on the WR450F were just on a bike lent to him for a few months - he's never actually owned a dirt bike at all sadly.

    Great information as always gent's - I might have missed it in the vid, but do you pop the clutch on kickers or is it just a zap of the throttle?

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      DirtHog365 right at the end it mentions it as the next step once the basics are mastered.

    You guys should do a video about riding in mud/sand! Maybe deep ruts as well?
    Loving the content. Keep it up!
    EDIT:
    You guys have a ruts vid. My bad.

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HealyWheelie only intermediate ruts though, probably do one eventually on huge bike-swallowing ruts if our skills get up to that level! got some vids collected for sand and mud but not enough yet... it rains so little around these parts. :-( also waiting for a trip to the beach to get into some very soft sand and film away....

      I'd love to watch it if you guys did!
      It'd also be cool to see you guys do a stoppie tutorial. I find that they are a great exercise for learning brake control.
      But hey, I aint makin' the videos, you guys are. Regardless, I love this channel and I am looking forward to practicing all this stuff! Unfortunately, I can't right now. Flat/worn tires. D:

    warning: i blew my rear shock out doing this, do not attempt if you have a trail rated bike. 2003 honda crf150f rear shock blew out after doing this a couple times.

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ouch! We've got a supporters vid where Meg thrashed a CRF150F around her racetrack but thankfully there were no jumps involved so the rear shock was okay. Incredible to film this, I could barely keep up with her on a bike with three times the horsepower...

      @@crosstrainingenduro man all i can say is it was fun while it lasted. i’ve always jumped my 150 and landed with plenty of travel left in the swingarm so i was surprised when i parked my bike for 4 hours and come back to a puddle of oil on the ground and a bouncy rear end.
