really loved this one.. the tree to me looks like a weeping willow in winter, reminds me of the one my mum has in her front yard.. love the colours... thanks Jane for sharing this beautiful painting, I will give this one ago for sure.. cheers Mel...
Hi Jane, I've attempted painting for the first time in my nearly 72 years and just listening to you relaxes me. I have done the Rainy Day tutorial and I am currently making a real mess of this one. But it makes me concentrate on something completely and blocks out the rest of the world which is pretty hectic in the UK at the moment.
This was published on my birthday November 7 of 2016 funny how I only found two today, however, I really like how you push into our minds that this is not the only way. I like that about you do You inspire me you are an awesome teacher as well. I love your work thank you for putting this up on TH-cam and sharing your knowledge with us for free.
Jane, you are such a sweet person. I love your commentary and your advice throughout this painting. such important information. As always, I think you totally rock. I'm grabbing my brushes! Yvonne
I love this one. You have such a great imagination to come up with these paintings. My family loves the ones I do based upon your lessons. I feel I've learned so much from your work. One help for me would be to have you show a full view of your finished work at the end of your presentation so that I can copy the image and print for reference. Thank you for your great lessons.
Thank you so much, Walter! And congrats on the awesome work! I have all of my photos on my website so you can reference them anytime :) www.paintingwithjane.com
I tried this one today. Came out pretty good. Had problems with the clouds, since I did not have a "scrub brush" and used a filbert brush. Also have problem keeping my paints from drying out. Thank you for the ideas.
Love the tip about working out the kinks with techniques that work for the individual. I painted the lower section first to give me perspective with the clouds and it really helped.. Love this painting, you are a terrific tutor and artist.
So simple yet so intriguing. I love that your painting invites a story. Great tutorial with explanation. I will definitely use this to do a surreal sky picture with a hint of violet in the clouds. I love the ground you made. I like to make black with green and yellow because I think it has more depth than mars black. I'm going to do something different with the house, too. Definitely a touch of hansa yellow in the windows with a touch of light from the window to the ground. I can't stop myself from using color.
Thank you for the little life advice throughout your video. For a beginner and a low self esteem person, it meant a lot :) This video was soothing, just as your voice Thanks again
Beautiful! I just found your channel and I'm very glad I did! Your instruction and advice is wonderful and inspiring. Thank you for sharing your talents with us!
I love the way you teach! You tell every detail and your videos are done well. I love "weather art". I going to attempt this hopefully:) My dad was an artist, but I never got to know him. I always felt the desire in me to paint, but never acted on it. I 55 years old now. But you have inspired me to start learning and expressing myself. You are an excellent artist, and love learning from you! :)
I have such a long list of yours to paint! 2 done and need to be photographed yet. lol I LOVE this one and it will be my next. I love all of the clouds and the feel of this one. I will go into the "Highlight Zone" with you on this one. lol I love your teaching methods. I learn SO much. Thanks so much Jane and Big ART Hugs to you. :D
Jane, you are an amazing artist and an even more amazing person. I love your art work and I have been inspired to start painting instead of only sketching.
Be kind to yourself, Stephanie. You have control over the things you say to yourself. Say nice and encouraging things. Seriously. Say them out loud! I do it too. That internal voice can be so mean, so verbally talk to yourself and say encouraging things. It's helpful. I swear it is
so true everyone has their own way of doing clouds. I have my favorite brushes two that I take care if. if they go I'm going to have a hard time finding them again. :) :). lovely dreadful sky. I'm on a cloud and poppy binge.. this will my next.
Love your style and attitude Jane been following you for a bit now always positive, i used to give up on things from critics, easier said then done to put ur foot down sometimes, but maybe if i explain how its is what it is as you explained. educate them on it. I would love to submit a photo I took to be considered for a lesson. (my other artistic output is photography I hope my knowledge on lighting and shadows will help with my paints ) Thank you Jane such awesome work!!
Thank you so much, Hanaku. I'm glad this was helpful! Yes, it can be hard to stick up for yourself, especially if the critic is a close friend or family. But I think it's ok to tell them how their comment made you feel. That's really exciting that you're moving from photography to painting! I think your knowledge of light and composition will really help you. I would love to see the photo you're talking about! You can share it to me on Google+ if you like :D
I see what you meant about getting a little frustrated.. lol I am Almost finished.. I had to use Several paint brushes, to create the clouds.. Will post soon ;-)
I watch your vids everyday, Jane. This is spectacular. I am working on the window with rain right now, and plan on doing the ornament one for a Christmas present. Then tackle this one! :) Thanks for your inspiration and Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you, Deborah!!! It's one of the brushes in my personal line of brushes that I'll be releasing very soon. Sign up for my mailing list on my website, and I'll send out info as soon as they're available. www.paintingwithjane.com
Very nice. I believe I learned a lot about painting clouds. I plan on trying this one tomorrow, but need to go to Hobby Lobby for a couple paints and round brushes.
First, I gonna try the painting you did today with evergreens in snow with glazing medium. Just went to Hobby Lobby and got glazing medium, 3 cheap ragged brushes. Also got matt medium for painting above.
Lovely painting (not a creepy tree at all). I love your videos, so helpful and your outlook on life is reflective of the beautiful soul you are. Love that you take the time to explain and talk about your brush techniques. Always helpful to know that. Now I'm going to go start a painting. :)
The clouds are breathtaking! This is definitely one of my favorite paintings, I love everything about it. I think that this lesson is for beginners, pros, and everyone who enjoys great art. Thank you Jane.
This is such a great painting. Love the dark moody feeling. Here's an idea of a video that could very much help a lot of upcoming artists: an in depth video of the types of mediums (gloss, matte, glaze etc) and possible affects you could achieve with them. Just an idea, i don't want to be one of those subscribers that try to change a channel into something it wasn't meant to be.
Hi Jane, I am loving all your videos I am watching, I have finally showing my paintings to friends after I started learning with your sessions.. I am wondering if you have already done a tutorial on waves/sea, I would love to get the link. If you haven't, can you help me learn how to paint waves?
Thank you so much! I haven't done much with sea paintings. I do have one that has some very small, distant waves, but no crashing waves. Here's the link to that one. I'm sure there will be others :) th-cam.com/video/D4aGJDb_IwU/w-d-xo.html&lc=z12jw33y1xqwx3uwf04cgpmzhse4gvxwayc0k
Hi Jane, I just started following your videos. I really enjoy them and you are a really good teacher. I am really new to painting and wondered if you varnish your paintings? If so what with? Thank you :-)
Thank you so much, Ruth!!! Yes, if I plan on keeping or selling a painting, I always varnish it. Here's a video I made where we talk about varnishing :) th-cam.com/video/VS8I8pLW6UI/w-d-xo.html
Thank you!!! I'm working on getting some detail brushes added to my line of paint brushes, and hopefully they'll be available in the next couple of months. In the meantime, look for something that's slightly on the firm side, but has a very nice, crisp point. I actually find that I really like the white taklon bristles. They're pretty inexpensive and easy to find. Usually in value packs with lots of brushes. I hope that helps!
Thank you, AnneMarie!! Well, the brushes I'm using are from my own line of brushes that will be available very soon. Until then, just use whatever you're ok scrubbing with. I say that because scrubbing with a good brush can ruin it, so don't scrub with a nice brush you don't want ruined. If you have any of those stiff, natural bristle brushes, those work really well for this too!
Thanks but I mean can the scrubbing brush be anything? Like a rounded or angle? Is the motion more important than the shape of the brush? Thanks you again for your help.
AnneMarie Donahue Oh, yes, any shape you're comfortable with. I have seen some people scrub in clouds with a puffy, old angle brush, and all kinds of other brushes! I think it's a combination of the motion and the amount of paint you use. Don't use so much that you can't get a soft shape, and you're good :)
Thanks Jane ........Love the dreadful clouds ......still learning and your a wonderful teacher. Go Monster squad !!!!!!!!!!
Thank you, Dana!! They're pretty dreadful, that's for sure! The Squad is the best, isn't it :D I'm glad you're a part of it
Jane, I am a beginner painter. Your videos have helped me so much. I just want to thank you 😊
Thanks, Jane. You give me hope that someday I will be able to paint clouds. You are great!
Pat
Thank you so much, Pat

Hi Jane, I've attempted painting for the first time in my nearly 72 years and just listening to you relaxes me. I have done the Rainy Day tutorial and I am currently making a real mess of this one. Very nice. I believe I learned a lot about painting clouds. I plan on trying this one tomorrow, but need to go to Hobby Lobby for a couple paints and round brushes.
Yay! I love to hear that! I hope you have a wonderful time painting it. Let me know how it turns out :D
First, I gonna try the painting you did today with evergreens in snow with glazing medium. Just went to Hobby Lobby and got glazing medium, 3 cheap ragged brushes. Also got matt medium for painting above.
Samuel Best Awesome! Sounds like you're all set :D
Lovely painting (not a creepy tree at all). I love your videos, so helpful and your outlook on life is reflective of the beautiful soul you are. Love that you take the time to explain and talk about your brush techniques. Always helpful to know that. Now I'm going to go start a painting. :)

Yay!! Thank you, Kelley
This is exquisite! I am so excited to work on this. Thank you Jane. You are an inspiration
Thank you so much, Jennifer!! That means the world to me
Superb tutorial. Very simple and great explanation
Hi Jane. Just painted this one. Having trouble with the tree. Might the brush Im using be too soft? Having trouble with fine lines
Could be. Is the brush separating and making lots of lines? Are you putting your hand on your canvas to better control the pressure?
This is such a great painting. Love the dark moody feeling. Here's an idea of a video that could very much help a lot of upcoming artists: an in depth video of the types of mediums (gloss, matte, glaze etc) and possible affects you could achieve with them. Just an idea, i don't want to be one of those subscribers that try to change a channel into something it wasn't meant to be.
lol! Thank you, Jose! I've actually been getting requests for a video like that, so I'm sure we can do that sometime :)
Jane, This is beautiful!
love this one jane!!!!!!
Thank you so much, Tonya!!

Hi Jane, I just started following your videos. I really enjoy them and you are a really good teacher. I am really new to painting and wondered if you varnish your paintings? If so what with? Thank you :-)

ooòoooooh thats avery nice jane its amazeing really
Thank you so much, Ali!!!
Jane, love watching you paint. Can you recommend a good brush for tree branches. I have numerous but the always come out choppy
I hope that helps!
very pretty painting 😍
Thank you so much, Kareena!!
I love love love this painting. It's dark, moody, and just perfect for me.
Thank you so much, Bethany! Dark and moody is my jam too :D
Especially after yesterday... *shudders*
Beautiful!🌷
Thank you, Alina
Dreadful clouds. Simply dreadful. ;) Fantastic painting Jane. I can't wait to try it.
Thank you, lol!! They are quite dreadful. Quite dreadful indeed ;)
Can you recommend a scrubbing brush? I feel like I'm not using the right brush. Also - can't wait to do this one!
Beautiful!
Thank you, Sarah!!
