Starry Night in the Forest Step by Step Acrylic Painting on Canvas for Beginners

- Let's paint a starry forest night, looking up through the trees. This is a quick and easy painting that's great for beginners and more experienced artists.
I’m painting on a 12x16-inch stretched canvas, but you can paint on any type and size of canvas you like.
I used:
• #12 Cloud brush
• #6 Cloud brush
• A 1-inch flat brush
• A 1/2-inch flat brush
• A 5/8 or 1/2-inch angle brush
• A fan brush
• Matte Medium
I’m using Liquitex Basics acrylic paint in the following colors:
• Mars Black
• Titanium White
• Phthalocyanine Blue
• Phthalocyanine Green
• Dioxazine Purple
• Quinacridone Magenta
But you can use any colors you like.

New to your tutorials. Just ordered you cloud brush, but didn’t see the small one, but may have overlooked it. Loving your painting techniques. I’ve been seriously painting in acrylics for the last 4 years. Painting is very therapeutic for me. My husband has a form of dementia so this lets me relax and give me some me time. 71 years young!
Thank you, Debra! I'm so glad you take the time to do something for yourself. That's so important for caregivers! I don't have the smaller brush anymore, unfortunately. I'm actually not making the cloud brushes anymore either, so you're getting one of the last ones! My long-handled filberts are taking the place of the clouds and I do have smaller sizes of those. The #6 filbert is probably the closest in size. Thank you 💛

Thank you so much for doing a tutorial of this painting technique. I did learn a lot in the process. It was the first time I used Matte Medium and I know I will be painting with it in the future! I painted the background one day...and then had to order Matte Medium from Amazon and wait for it to arrive. Then I finished the painting today and will hang it in my bedroom. I love looking at it!

Absolutely stunning
I just finished the city w/the blue moon last night... and I cant wait to do this to hang over my fireplace in the great room... I have 13 foot ceilings & a tree that reaches the top & the leaves & branches go from wall to wall...so this painting is gonna be awesome in here...Thank you so so so much.. I love it !!!

I got lucky...lol when I was in my 40;s I met a man who had just finished 40 yrs. in the Army & did his last 20 at the Pentagon... And he spoiled me rotten... We were only together for 6 yrs. when he died.. But he built me a beautiful home... & now Its pretty empty being alone... Actually I was checking out the city where you live & its beautiful... Thinking of making a change & moving.. just not sure where I want to go ... Im burnt out on Fla... lol

I decided to experiment with adding some green to my sky and OMG, IT'S SO PRETTY!!!! Now waiting for it to dry so I can start scrubbing.

When you said you were going to use green for the sky, I thought, "Oh my gosh, what is she doing?!" But it worked wonderfully! I love learning new painting effects with colors, mediums, and textures. Your videos are so instructive and peacefully at the same time. Very enjoyable. Thank you for sharing your gifted talents with us, Jane!
Thank you so much for the fan brush work, especially the close ups. I find that it helps a lot to see exactly what you are doing with the bristles, and how the paint should be laying down. I would love more paintings with that angle/close up shown. This painting is beautiful, and has been added to my future inspiration files. :)
