Hey guys! Thanks for watching! Let me know if you have any feedback on the game and on the video! If the game looks interesting, consider subscribing :)
The game seems very cool. Maybe you could give some incentive to players for them to switch between modes (e.g. temporary move speed boost when switched to 4-legs, temporary armor when switched to shooter).
Love the aesthetics of this! I think it would be a fun idea to make the robot legs a little "snappier" when they take steps, and intentionally try to crush you as they walk (in addition to the laser threat). That would add a whole new dynamic to the game.
@@Codeer just an idea. Maybe you can make another leg exclusively to grab or/and smash the player. It could be always there like the legs and just attack every x seconds, or it could be like another type of proyectile that goes to the player and if it hits it grabs. Then after the attack it goes back into the robot. Idk if I explained clearly, hopefully I did.
He's using Notepad++ probably because his laptop can't handle both Unity and Visual Studio/Code working simultaneously, I know that because I'm doing the same thing for the same reasons.
@@Fenrir90918 what I gathered from this video is: watch other ppl's devlogs until you see something you like, and can do with little to no budget. Step 2: -procrastinate- do the thing in a different theme so it won't be too sus. Step 3: add random crap you found in other devlogs. Step 4: ??? Step 5: publish, profit, repeat. (I'm *kinda* joking.)
I have found that, with a unique idea, you should focus your game entirely around that idea. Being able to climb up obstacles and enemies in the manner that you created is quite unique and your game should center around it. Instead of simply being able to shoot out the spider's legs to destroy it, you should have to climb up each leg and destroy them individually. Furthermore, the spider should have traps and defenses that make it difficult to safely climb up each leg. Maybe there are bombs on his legs that get triggered through contact or maybe there's a defense where some legs get destroyed spontaneously when you get near the top, making you fall to your death (kind of like a salamander's tail). By taking this approach, you avoid creating a game that everyone, one way or another, has already played before.
Thats quite interesting actually, making giant bosses and making the player deal with them with their small size. Maybe a giant boss that cant be destroyed with guns that you have to climb into its "belly" and fight smaller enemies inside the giant boss then flip some levers or plant a bomb to destroy the boss, sort of like a mini-arena.
the boss should have some sort of shield to prevent shooting, and you have to climb on top of it without getting knocked off to disable the shield and then you climb down and shoot the legs off
Awesome job on your first devlog!! It was cool to learn how you got started with game dev and about the latest updates to your game. I'm looking forward to the next one!
Damn, this game looks AMAZING, it would be really cool if the character gets other shapes too, like something that glides through the air, or can enter tight places like a snake. I love games where the character is a shape-shifter.
please introduce the ability to ride the small drones after hacking them with an item that drops from the spider boss. this new ability to hack the drones and fly them would allow you to access new areas. Also I have an idea for a second boss that is basically a kind of robot armadillo that would drop an item when defeated that acts like an environmental shield allowing you to access areas that would normally kill you, volcanic area, ice caves, irradiated wasteland. that sort of thing. anyways I wish you luck. hope all these ideas people are giving you in the comments helps in your creative process.
i think a fun thing to implement would be flying climbable enemies, so you can like go on top of one giant robot spider and leap onto a flying enemy to kill it, and then you can pull a nasty jump to hop onto another enemy, whether it be a flying enemy or another ground enemy.
How about flying whales 😳 it alwats make me feel a bit of ways. Maybe hey only appear in the middle of nights and turn the sky a different color when they appear. Maybe they can provide the player with something
Hey codeer this is the first video I see from your channel but I'm really looking forward to more videos and updates from you. It's amazing and very inspiring seeing you making your game and every part of the development you do.
You should add something that both encourages and discourages climbing onto giant robots like the one in the video. Because it seems like the giant robot in the video lacks the ability to deal with a player if they decide to climb onto it, while at the same time you shouldn't completely discourage climbing into it because it is the whole focus of the game.
Thanks for the feedback! Yes you're right! The robot can't do much once you're climbing it, though that's what the drones are for. When climbing you're super vulnurable to the drone attacks.
@@Codeer Ah yeah, true. But I also realized that you could possibly use the giant robot's base as really good cover for avoiding the incoming fire from the circling drones.
Maybe add spikes or lasers on the arms. Turn it into a mini puzzle and if you can get to the top you can make a critical hit or disarming it for a few seconds. The first incredible movie had a well designed 4 legged drone that would be a good refence to analyze.
I Can't wait for the Second Devlog! This is so cool so far! Also, I have an idea for a robot-type enemy creature that looks like the player. And make it like show up in the ruins of a town. So like first-time players might think it's an NPC or something. And put something in the town so the player has a reason to go into it.
Could be fixed with sound and few more effect. Like that larva boss in Serious Sam Second Encounter, which has "windup" sound for its lasers that really stuck in my memory for good. Basically, 1-2 seconds of ominous charging sound before releasing lasers, which could be also accompanied with some visual effects on that gun itself
Man, this game is really coming into its own. I like all these ideas and they are forming into one solid game concept. Dont go too crazy with more and more ideas. Just expand on what you have here. To help differentiate between human and spider mode, you can have the human mode be able to simply move faster, or even run, while the spider cannot move as fast. Great work! Keep it up!
Once you talked about the only two drones attacking at once I thought about having an animation switch where the drones that aren't attacking switch to a camera like the giant drone spawning spider is watching the player. This could also provide some story to the progression where the AI Learns from the player and gets progressively harder as the game goes on. Good luck!
This game concept is amazing, but might I add some ideas? If your main character is made out of wires then make more use of that by having them in holes to hit switches or unlocked doors, maybe even tethering it to something to swing off of. I love this game so far and I really want it to be great!
