Ken, you are staying in Astrodel Hotel, the lay out inside I remember, also, I can tell the front view when you opened up the curtain there was a church infront of AstrodeI Hotel..I was there with my siblings from Sept 24 to 29, we tour the city like peoples park, gasiano mall, SM Ecoland, Crocodile park, and of course we met up to see our relatives- cousins in Buhangin. we went to Karoeke Bar.. we went to eat Durian and Marang in Bankerohan Market, we went to Roxas Market at night time where you can eat seafood like grilled Tuna which is very close to Astrodel Hotel, and the last nicest part was that we went to paradise Island in Samal for a day..Go there.. take a jeepney going to Sasa, tell the driver you want to go to see the Paradise Island..There is a boat on the port which will take you to Paradise Island,,pay Ph25 it only takes 10 min to reach the Island, there is an entrance fee of Ph300..the place is clean and they have music, a singing band group..when you order food, on the menu, they have delicious basket of seafood..Enjoy Davao😄

    Hello, @Ken Abroad!
After 6 weeks in our country, you must have gained quite a handful of knowledge, experience, fun --& some poundage, too! 😁
Just like Cebu, Davao is also one of the best places to visit. People are warm, friendly & hospitable, as always. It is generally peaceful & also has sense of order, like in Cebu. But as always, whenever you're outside, be alert (alisto); careful (maingat); & discerning\critical (mapanuri); that will always put you in good stead.
Continue exploring our country. GODSPEED! 🙏😇

NIce one, Ken :) Don't be surprised at more prohibitions imposed around Davao City than other places you've been to-it's one of the strictest (if not the strictest) cities in the country with regards pretty much all that was listed at the entrance to the Park :D Just the same, it's for everyone's safety.
Most fiestas/festivals happen during the first half of the year, peaking around April-May (Kadayawan happens in August though). You're still in luck however, as some major and colorful fiestas in VIsayas and Mindanao are celebrated in October. Take your pick and book :D: 23 October-Sunday would be the dance parade Masskara Festival up north in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental (Visayas) OR the Lanzones Festival in Camiguin in Northern Mindanao, "lanzones" being a fruit you must also try, those from Camiguin Island being the sweetest. Go ka na! :D
(BTW, although Bacolod/Negros Provinces are in the Visayas, their lingua franca there is yet another one: Ilonggo (or Hiligaynon), although they would understand Bisaya, speak Tagalog. The Ilonggos are also one of the coolest Filipinos you'd encounter.)

The Food Scene in Davao is booming, do check them out both the old food places and the new. Also do check out the Karenderya at the adjacent building of your hotel beside the fried chicken store in case you're looking for a quick very cheap home cooked meal. Also the fried chicken place is open 24 hours.

it's definitely feels weird having a Christmas Season now. now I remember when I was a kid, we don't start Christmas season til the start of Misa de Gallo which starts from Dec 16 to the 24, which is around a week before Christmas Eve. then it got extended from the 1st Day of December about a decade later, which got extended again for the whole of December. before I left the Philippines, they were already starting to celebrate Christmas season on November but the Christmas displays were beginning to brought out or put in display in October. nowadays, it seems September has now become the start of the occasion.

In Jamuay, the festivities of Dinagyang is celebrated in Iloilo City. It is celebrated with colorful costumes similar to the pictures in the gallery. Cebu also celebrates the Sinulog festivities in January. Not sure which one happens first.

I figured you were going to Davao when you said 2 hour flight. I lived there for two years and loved it. Thinking about going back but also considering Cebu. Favorite experience there was whitewater rafting on the Davao river (depart from crocodile farm). Shout out to anyone at Jacks Ridge or Gap Farm. Much love to everyone in Panabo. 💛
