Thanks to all of y'all who watched the live stream of this one. It was great to read all the comments. This one really opened up. You can just feel the space. I don't think you understand exactly what a profound effect this is going to create for video game music, and retro game restoration as a whole. In the very least, it's affecting me like no other video game music project has. I've said it before, and I'll likely say it again, but you're doing gods work on this, I look forward to the next video! Nothing but love and respect my man.
So glad y'all love this project as much as I do. The support means a lot. I have no idea what kind of effect this'll create but I'm ready to make some MFin' waves 🍌🍌
Well said. These collections of restorations opens up my mind like "what does x sound like restored?" It's very ambitious because game audio is usually the first thing compromised with new ports of old games.
IMO a lot of the time they end up sounding worse. That ringing noise is ear screeching, and the compression adds a lot of crunch and flavor. Respect for the work but it happens a lot in this field
David's melody work is awe inspiring. A true genius at his craft. He's mentioned in a few podcasts that he spends an ungodly amount of time perfecting the arrangement of notes in his melodies. It definitely shows
I'm amazed how you were able to recreate the "faux voices" with the reverb. This effect is something that often gets lost in the remastering process so I'm glad it remains intact!
When I open up my Audio Technica M50X headphones next week your restorations are the first thing I am going to listen to! Great work as always from a long time DKC fan.
This has been my favorite DKC trilogy song ever since I was a kid. I once went to sleep listening to it on a night when I was having trouble falling asleep. God bless you for making these restorations, Sam, because it's like I'm suddenly able to hear these songs again for the very first time.
I've been listening to each track you have remastered and BY GOD THEY ARE MAKING ME CRY. I'm thrown back into my childhood in 95 getting this for Christmas and enjoying my week-long break from school. It's amazing to hear what Rare composers could do, and the magic of hearing these tracks uncompressed is like listening to them for the first time all over again. I hope you make each track from DKC 1-3 OST. Simply masterpieces
I know I just raved about Forest Frenzy, but I'm in absolute awe of the way this sounds compared to its 16-bit counterpart. This might be the track that has most benefitted from these restorations (at least, so far!), which I especially appreciate since I find many in the covers scene overlook this one. Great work!
This is probably the most beautiful piece of music from the DKC Trilogy. Right there with Stickerbrush Symphony and Forest Interlude. This hits me different than all the others though. I'm sure many of you can agree with me. Best game ever.
God's work! I can't believe how much bigger this sounds while still painstakingly faithful. Goes to show just how fantastic the original compositions were.
I've been going through and listening to your restorations, and I am completely blown away. With so many new games and great soundtracks coming out these days, it feels like these classics are sometimes forgotten. Keep it up my dude! You've got great talent.
I would love to see someone, with the same tools that Vangelis had, remake In a Snow-Bound Land with the same kind of execution as Theme from Antarctica.
You see, jams like have a funny way of how great it is to be around your friends and family around the holidays and how, as we get older, we tend to lose track of the things that made like such a wonderful adventure in the first place. In turn, music like this also servea as a reminder to never let those memories fade.
This restoration really sells me on the idea that this was merely inspired by the "Theme of Antarctica" song by Vangelis, instead of "In a Snowbound Land" being a rip-off. You can more clearly hear all the difference like this. I love both songs, but after I found the Vangelis song, I always wondered, with trepidation, if David Wise just lifted the song. I mean, that kind of thing was still fairly common in the 80s and 90s, and not entirely frowned upon; think of the Ghostbusters theme song, or "Ice, Ice, Baby": both total rip-offs.
Of course, because Mr Wise is a wonderful human being who builds upon whatever he takes inspiration from. Ghostbusters theme and Ice Ice Baby were cool, but they sampled I Want A New Drug and Under Pressure for really no reason at all. This kinda keeps the same vibe but adds on to it a bit
Oh wow, I didn't even notice you actually distributed all the samples you found while doing these restorations as well! Might have to get my hands dirty with these sometime... ;) Anyway, this is damn good honestly; these restorations have been really top-notch so far, and I really like how you go back to fix whatever mistakes you found lol
I was always under the belief that David Wise's compositions were complimented by SNES Sound Chip limitations, but after hearing this, I can safely say that this is how it's meant to be heard.
