hello besties, today we embark on another episode of reading the riordanverse where i devoured magnus chase and the gods of asgard! i had so much fun with this series and i'm totally not prepared for next month when we delve into the trials of apollo! for now though, i hope you enjoy my reactions, hehe!

one thing i LOVE about magnus chase is that rick really sat down and was like "huh, how do I make sure it's super clear that Magnus is NOT Percy" and then he was like "wait I've got it!!!! he hates blue :)"
also the line that's like "typical. someone says fruity edge and immediately thinks of me"
ALSO the first two chapters of ship of the dead because the CROSSOVER
don't even get me started on blitzstone
ALSO the way that rick melds gods and belief systems in this series. especially the dynamic between magnus, sam, and amir. the way magnus was like,, yup, I'm an atheist, sam's Muslim, and we're children of norse gods cleaning up their messes. and just how magnus helped amir in general
one last thing: when you were talking about opening an orphanage in the HoO vlog, I was smiling internally waiting for you to read Magnus Chase. and then you DIDNT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT IT. that makes me upset and as retribution, you are required to specifically mention "significant annoyance" when you read ToA

@Anna hmm idk I feel like with Solangelo, Rick set it up to be a ship in the book, where as Blitzstone wasn’t necessarily meant to be a ship when Rick wrote it. It just ended up being one. I’m Blood of Olympus, Nico and Will were meant to have romantic tension but in MC I don’t think it was intentional.
However, if Rick does canonize it than I would be so freakin happy lol

I was kinda hesitant going in, cause it seemed like a minor series or something. But boy was i wrong. I absolutely loved it, and Magnus has to be one of the best narrators in the riordanverse. Like his sarcasm is god tier. I enjoyed it a lot and am glad u read it.
also dont get scared for Trials Of Apollo hecause i personally LOVED IT. i think apollo is my favorite narrator in the riordanverse along with maggie, he is so unique and fun, but i do hope you have some things in mind while reading this series, esp The Burning Maze. some fans found it dumb or unnecessary a certain thing happnes there, while i think that it was perfectly understandable and it has so much more meaning and is more heartbreaking once you really think about it, plus it works as a sort of catalyst for apollo's mindset in the other 2 books as he grows more as a character and person. so loved it.
Can I just say that the 2 pages where it plays out Reyna rejects Lester/Apollo😂it was the funniest thing ever

@@lina5699 i love reading the last 30 pages or close enough to that in ToN when apollo returns to olympus as my comfort read if i'm feeling down
I also like Trials of Apollo it's a great series even though some people think it's unnecessary I really liked Apollo's character development and Burning Maze was like the turning point of the series. I was reading first book of Magnus Chase and TOA at the same time but I stopped reading Hidden Oracle it was not that interesting at the start and also ( spoiler kind of Percy went home ) but the series gets better and I really liked The Tower of Nero it's very good ending .
Its ok the Magnus and Annabeth connection evaded me as well until i read and i just sat alone for so long sitting in my room turned the lights off and just became the definition of Emo
I have such special memories reading Magnus Chase, especially waiting for the Hammer of Thor and Ship of Dead after the cliffhangers lol! Alex means so much to me and I love him and Magnus so much 😭😭 The characters definitely have a special place in my heart. I think Rick took some risks with the stakes of this series but they payed off in the end 😌

There's a small series of three books (The son of sobek, the staff of serapis, the crown of ptolemy) collectively called Demigods and Magicians, and it's a crossover between Kane Chronicles and PJO! You'd definitely want to check them out!
I Love Magnus sooo much! I LIVE for his bluntness and sarcasm! In The Hammer of Thor I love him simping for Alex😭😭blitzstone is great! I had to look up fan art on ig to picture how they looked like cause I couldn’t really from Rick’s description in the books😂I only started on The ship of the dead yesterday (only on pg. 30 I think) so it’s better I don’t watch this until I’m done with the whole trilogy😂

I started writing my first novel and coming to terms with my querness while reading the Ship of the Dead, so I have a soft spot for MC books. They might be my favorite Riordan series.
My theory about why Magnus Chase books shrink so abruptly throughout the series is that Rick got tired of writing such long books (I think this was about the time he was writing 2 books a year, though my memory isn't exactly reliable)

Haha! OMG! I love that you love Alex Fierro! I'm absolutely in love with Alex! (and Magnus of course) I paged through "Magnus Chase" in no time because I loved that series so much. And just like you I'm a huge fan of mythology, too. I think a lot of people didn't notice the connection between Annabeth and Magnus. *lol* So don't be mad at yourself.

I'm not really sure if this or the Greek series is my favorite, although I'm gonna be honest, I expected more from Magnus' end, like I felt it wasn't that...impacting. I like the concept of Magnus not being a fighter but I still wanted more lol. Also, I'm sad you didn't hype for characters like Jack (so hilarious) or floor nineteen pals. T.J., Mallory (queen) and Halfborn are amazing, I want to be friends with them.
The only better pairing than Blitzstone is Hearthstone and me.

Actually, if you want to see characters from different series interacting, there are short stories that deliver exactly that! There are Demigod Files with short stories taking place during (and before) PJ&the Olympians, then Demigod Diaries(?) with characters from HoO. If you want crossovers, there is one between PJ and the Kane Chronicles. The Son of Sobek has Percy and Carter meet, The Staff of Serapis follows Annabeth and Sadie, and The Crown of Ptolemy has all 4 of them if I remember well

Did you read the short stories with The Kane Chronicles and Percy Jackson together? They were at the end of certain editions of the Kane Chronicles but I'm pretty sure you can find them if you look them up.

They take place in roughly the same timeline, so you could read either.
Okay wait *spoilers for blood of olympus lie ahead but not for a bit*
Being queer in middle school was just me and a bunch of us in a corner looking at fanart of Rick Riordan characters which to me is just so funny. Also I'm genderfluid and Alex Fierro was the first (and only I think) genderfluid character I've read about so that was an experience. It's crazy to think that Nico di Angelo was the first gay character I had ever read when I was like 11 and I know people who didn't read the books until they were 14 and they still hadn't read any books with gay characters and they came over to me crying during school. *okay spoilers now*
My grandma when she finished Blood of Olympus she was like "I'm so happy Nico has found someone. Will had better be his boyfriend and treat him right..." And she just went on and on and I'm surprised she hasnt written fanfiction about them by now. Then when she seemed cool with Alex after reading Magnus Chase I came out to her a month or so after. I don't think she quite understood it and I think I'll have to come out to her again but she wasn't upset about it so I'm grateful.
Anyways long story short,

The third book really confused me on Hearthstone and Blitz’s relationship like wtf Hearth’s childhood friend/now maid was in love with him? I was completely sure that they (hearth and blitz) were basically married like common law type or at least that they would end up together eventually ya know but then that part in the third book made me do a double take
We meet the made in the second book but yea it was rlly confusing

I feel Magnus chase. Cause in beginning of ToA Percy mentioned annabeth being in Boston. And in ToN (spoiler-ish) in the last 30 pages or something percabeth explained what they were up to before moving into college
They came out at the same time so reading it in chronological order is best.
But the first Magnus chase book came first

Maybe reread it again? Like next year cause you will have a decent break by then. I mean I didn’t properly read TKC until a whole decade later cause when I tried reading it when it first came out, I didn’t really understand Egyptian mythology and found it uninteresting😂
