Never played a Totem Warrior, but some combo of Bear + Eagle seems the most optimal. Be an ungodly tank who can see up to a mile away and jump up super high only to pile-drive you down into the ground all DBZ style? Yes PLEASE.

My barb’s from a tribe that lives in a land full of dinosaurs. Think primeval forest. As a result I flavour his totems to be pterodactyl instead of eagle, velociraptor instead of wolf and of course the MF-ing TYRANNOSAURUS!

Loved my Bear Totem character back when I played them. My Barbarian passed a white dragon’s breath weapon DC, quartering that thing’s damage all while laughing it off.
Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but choosing the Wolf totem as your level 3 choice can actually be super powerful with the right party. If you have Rogues, Paladins, or other melee characters that could benefit from having advantage on their attacks (Great Weapon Masters), it's actually a really strong party buff. As a bit of a side note, too, the Wildhunt Shifter race make great Barbarians as their specific shifting ability negates the negative side effects of using Extra Attack. Combining this with the Wolf totem means that you and all of your friends get advantage on melee attacks against an enemy you decide to tank.

I was in a super hero campaign, and i played a Warforged Bear/Bear/Eagle. The flavor was an android created to save people, which is why i was so supernaturally durable and strong. Incredibly fun, would recommend

Well I'm glad I picked bear, my Barbarian is an ex-solider who turned to a warrior for hire who I want to legit be so strong, his name strikes fear into enemies under the nickname "The Storm of war"
the eagle totem fly could literally be "jump good" from Samurai Jack
(samurai jack could easily be a multiclassed barbarian)

My own dm managed to find a Flind which is a type of gnoll who can do psychic damage with its flail. My Barbarian wasn’t happy.
First character I ever played was a Warforged Totem Warrior. Felt like fuckin Alphonse or the Iron Giant

How we flavored the fly speed at my table once:
Me: I Jump.
DM: really? okay... which direction?
Me: Up.
DM: so thats like what, 8 feet?
Me: 40
DM: what?
Me: I jump 40feet in the air! And I'm taking this guy im holding with me!
DM: Make a strength Check, I guess...
Bear Totem is unreal powerful. At mid totem I choose Tiger. It helps a lot. Since it's a combination of bear and tiger I was like...hmm... I'm badger totem.

Extra 15 feat of movement is nuts tho, past level 5 while raging you move 55 feet. Yeah double health is also insane but being able to hit an enemy that would typically be out of reach is huge
Unpopular opinion, 1st the wolf is a broken choice on the same tier as bear resistance.
If you have two other materials in your party let's say a paladin and fighter. You just gave advantage on the action surge and let the paladin crit fish and while you are in melee you are most likely taking physical damage that you already resist so you don't lose much

My Totem Warrior is a human Wolf Totem warrior who is fluent in Orcish. (Read: Mongolian.)

First of all, i love your videos very much and i used them for my newbie players when they can't decide which subclass to choose xDD BUT, i can't find on the rules where does it says that when you pick the bear totem you can double your hit points. Where is it?
Gaining resistance to all but one type halves incoming damage. Effectively doubling the amount of hit points you have since you are halving everything you get hit with. (Except psychic which is not a commonly used damage type)

I tend to ban this subclass. As well as twilight cleric. I’ve run a few campaigns with either, and one campaign with both and they were thoroughly unenjoyable and the mechanics of the subclasses it it hard in terms of balancing.
Have a question: does picking a new totem at level 6 and 14 replace the one you got at level 3 or is it a mix and match type of thing where you can have different ones at the different levels? It isn't very clear. I assume it overrides the whichever you chose last but would be very fun if it was a mix and match situation. I really like Elk but not really liking the level 6 ability and think if you could mix and match the level 6 Tiger would be great for the extra skills. Just thinking of a Centaur with close to 100 flying speed the first turn you go into a rage, would be like 97.5. It would be 40 from race, 15 from Elk, 10 from level 5 feature, 32.5 for half move for going into rage with the optional features, and add the fly speed. Even if you couldn't mix and match going Eagle you'd be able to get 75 the first turn but then 100 if you Bonus Action Dash, which might actually be better in the long run.
You can pick a different one every time. So you can do Bear, Eagle, Wolf or Bear, Elk, Tiger. Whatever you want. As long as you pick bear.
What if you build a Half-Orc with wereboar lycanthropy as a Totem Warrior with boar 🐗 totem?
Brother played a warforged totem barbarian theming the totems more like programs.
Instead of hill dwarf be a Katalatar (Dreamfolk), they get psychic Resistance (Dreamfolk Totem Warrior for Resistance to all damage then look at the GM face.
It's all fun and games untill you ger charmed and an unstoppable hulking behemoth is tearing down on your own party, definitely hasn't happened to me :)

My friend made one of these and chose one of the crystal dragon borns which gave him resistance to psychic damage as well.

Just started a campaign as an emerald gem dragonborn barbarian. Guess what damage emerald dragonborns are naturally reaistant to? 🧠 Cheeky build, but fun.
If you really want to piss off your DM play as a Githyanki or Githzari and pick bear and become resistant to literally all damage all game.
