If I may make a suggestion for the UA Ranger, I would personally go with the optional rules for them found in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything. It’s simpler and better to work with the rest of the game than UA tends to be. However if you’re DM is experienced enough to handle untested stuff like that, then don’t let me stop you; you’r table not mine
Yeah... I played a Ranger not only with the Tasha rules, but one of its subclasses the Swarmkeeper, and actually turned into a fairly decent Battlefield Control character, especially when I was able to pick up the Spike Growth spell. Now that turned my enemies into shredded cheese!
Most of all if you want to quickly know how to play an effective ranger, choose the Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything variant features, pick the spell hunter’s mark, go gloomstalker, choose the archery fighting style, and pick either variant human, or custom lineage for the first level feat. Pick sharpshooter, use a longbow, and go to town doing schmassive damage. Max out dexterity, dump strength, put your next highest stat in con, and third highest in wisdom. This is by far the easiest way to be really effective as a ranger. Bonus points if you can pursuade your party to fight at night, because then you will be invisible to even creatures with darkvision, and gain advantage on just about everything.
Kind of underselling Monk's Monk Weapons, bonk with quarterstaff with two hands and then follow up with a punch after freeing a hand from the QS. Also being able to throw darts and follow up with a punch for a nice mix of ranged and close combat, creating a mobile, mid ranged, scouter. Barbarians usually get their power from nature like druids. But that's usually ignored until subclasses are added. There are more inaccuracies but its a guide for newcomers and i still consider this a good video and worthy of a like.
I would like to say that Paladins do not have to worship a god. Their strength comes from their conviction, not a diety or god. When one turns into an oathbreaker their power still exists, it just manifests in a way that doesnt follow their previous values and ideals.
That ONLY ASSUMES the DM doesn't penalize you for your fall by removing your access to any Divinely inspired abilities such as Divine Smite. I would have the God cut the power bestowed on you almost completely off, or change them to Eldritch based energy until the Paladin has atoned for whatever they may have done to become an OathBreaker.
@@garyryantaylor30813 Again, Paladins in DnD 5e do not draw their powers from a diety. That's a flavor thing. The power comes from their drive to commit to their Oath. Earlier editions Paladins were empowered by a divine connection like a Cleric. When turning Oathbreaker your powers twist and instead of following your previous ideals you now work against your ideals, betraying what you once believed. If your DM is, as you put it, removing access to "divinely inspired abilities" then they're completely misunderstanding where Paladins get their power from and also punishing a player more for breaking an oath even if it was unintentional and honestly I'd say find a new DM if they're that hostile. The Oathbreaker subclass exists and functions as a replacement subclass if you don't follow your ideals. Why would your DM be removing access to Paladin features unless they have it out for you?
I am starting my first dnd campaign tommorow and I think im gonna go cleric and make a custom god of burping so every time I use my domain I burp and i will ask the dm if its a good burp if I can get advantage.
How did the classes get their magic: Wizards: "I've been studying for years and are finally prepared to cast spells" Sorcerer: "my grandfather fu*** a dragon" Warlock: "I made a deal with the devil" Bards: " I made fun off this guy and he just f*ing died" Also, as some other comments have said, great video
how are there not more views and subs for this guy. thank you for making the explanations entertaining and understandable. also am i hearing things or is there a slight accent at times, i swear i can hear it come out but I can't place it 😂👀
Can confirm about the druid, I play a circle of spores gremlin, and i uh, havent gotten to experiment with wild shapes yet bc we were level one… but as soon as i get the chance im becoming a cat.
10:37 but i can. Every day wizard's choose from a list of 49 spells by default at level 20 and could obtain more from scrolls but are unlikely to have over 100 spells unless it's earned throughout a full 1-20 campaign or the dm gave them far to many spells to copy. Wizards also don't do allot else, their subclass features are rather simple except maybe the transmutation wizards minor and major transmutation but you won't use major that often anyway. As a druid you have to choose between 150 spells at levels 17+ and memorize all the abilities and physical stats of every not especially powerful beast you could have seen wich you will want to maximize and as a druid would exceed the avarange. And on top of that i would consider the druid subclass abilities more complicated than those of wizard's and even if you dont consider the expanded spell lists or the encouragement to enter melee that the spores druid has enough, the shepherd druid has to keep track of an immense amount of summons as well as creating a strategically placed totem to bost their alies and later heal their summons. The moon druid has too keep track of even more statblocks while using their wildshapes in combat more directly as they only spend their bonus action to activate it and then they need to balance healing their wildshape and spell slots.
In Baldur’s Gate specifically you can take the tavern brawler feat and then Barbarians get to be long range, before I left act one I was throwing three things a turn if I was using rage and I did legitimately obscene damage from across the battlefield. Doesn’t work in Norma dnd tho apparently
During my first campaign I was playing with a couple of people who it was also their first time so we all had no idea what we where doing and watching this video made me realize how much I played wizard wrong and that my character probably wasn’t even really a wizard
I personally play dnd on dnd beyond. So I get all my explanation from that. But I still am learning as I play, even though I’ve never read any handbooks or such and yet I still have fun playing the game.
I play a barbarian, my first kill was with the cast iron pan from my adventure pack. I went and picked it up from where it landed in the second session
I started playing way back when the Moldvay boxed sets came out (Basic and Expert) and first edition Advanced DnD. We upgraded with each new edition, more or less just rolling it into our game. 3E was different, but incorporated just about all of our long standing house rules- and a yes you can! Here's how! philosophy to character building, as opposed to the NO! from earlier editions. The D20 thing was genius! However, power creep was real... We skipped 4th ed. 5E is essentially 3E with the gnarliest bugs worked out, the power creep nerfed, and some new options from 4th ed. Streamlined, and bult with all the lessons learned. I loved the 3E cleric! FINALLY- they made it cool to play!!! Not just the class you got cajoled into playing if you were the last to join, lol. 5E clerics are even better! I love what they did with domains, and channeling divine power. Wizards are way fun, too. The cantrip mechanic was a stroke of genius. Minor, but AT WILL spells, that often level up with you. This is key, especially at low level when spell slots are few. You'll always be able to cast something- and they put much of the utility spells here, where you'll always have em without spending spell slots on them. I tend to gravitate to these classes, simply because magic is what makes the fantasy genre so interesting to me. All of the basic classes got made fun to play. The others are mainly variations on those, different flavors, or different focuses. Save Bard and Monk, which are just their own thing. Creating a character can be a bit more complicated than before, but that's because they're front loaded- you make many of the major decisions early on. Once made, it's easy to play. Anyhow, that's my 2 coppers. Nice run down!
Thank you for this video i recommended it to a friend that played bg3 so he could understand the classes a little bt better because they are very based on dnd.
Ah yes, a bard's insane powers... Imagine being a powerful ancient dragon and dying to "Your mom"

As a new DM this was super helpful! Thank you
The quality is just fire. Hope you did get a good sleep)
I am starting my first dnd campaign tommorow and I think im gonna go cleric and make a custom god of burping so every time I use my domain I burp and i will ask the dm if its a good burp if I can get advantage.
“Most bards pick a smaller race”
My bard is a halfling named Tombles. 😅
How did the classes get their magic:
Wizards: "I've been studying for years and are finally prepared to cast spells"
Sorcerer: "my grandfather fu*** a dragon"
Warlock: "I made a deal with the devil"
Bards: " I made fun off this guy and he just f*ing died"
Also, as some other comments have said, great video
this deserves more likes man! this was a really funny and informative video, awesome!!
that piano at the start gave me painful memories and activated my fight or flight
how are there not more views and subs for this guy. thank you for making the explanations entertaining and understandable.
also am i hearing things or is there a slight accent at times, i swear i can hear it come out but I can't place it 😂👀
Can confirm about the druid,
I play a circle of spores gremlin, and i uh, havent gotten to experiment with wild shapes yet bc we were level one… but as soon as i get the chance im becoming a cat.
Pause, you do D&D stuff too??? You had me sold with your other channel, now I gotta binge watch here too 😂
Neat video. Like your style and script. Keep up the good work and I am sure the views and subs will come in.
Came for the info, subbed for the quality
You just got a new subscriber my guy. This was awesome
This is a great video dude very useful and charismatic!
A Druid who’s permanently in wild shape as a small electric spider who only knows one op electric move and invisibility
The Zelda music was so good 😂
Best summarized explanation. Thanks!
Never played DnD before but this video also works as a fantastic guide for character creation in Baldurs Gate 3 and other similar games.
my character who will be coming up in a new campaign is an Abyssal Tiefling Druid who is from the Circle of the Moon… I love her so much
I personally play dnd on dnd beyond.
13:26 "...you're a good little warlock"
my reaction playing a warlock: yes i am :) :) :)
Thank you for this video i recommended it to a friend that played bg3 so he could understand the classes a little bt better because they are very based on dnd.
Would love to have a deeper dive into each of these
I was going to have my character be a fighter. You have successfully given me analysis paralysis.
Imagine you see a bard, they say “your mom” to your friend and he just dies on the spot
Why is the intro exactly why I’m here
these videos are very helpful, can you do abilities next? this is all very helpful information for my first campaign.
so thankful for your videos! they are so helpful
