@Sean Hickey It's an opinion shared by many but being a convert (having an auto for my daily and now a manual) I don't believe it nearly as much. I live pretty well within a city, my commute features stop-go traffic and it's uh... pretty frustrating; I would personally love to have a really good DCT with a very good manual mode. On the other hand... my Sunday drives are magical and driving stick is incredibly satisfying when I don't have to deal with other cars.
Manual's are fun, but as a daily... negative; mostly because everyone else is driving an automatic and in my area people don't signal or they cut across three lanes or want to ride their brakes.
Get a daily that doesn't drive you insane, ignore everyone else's opinions is my final take on whether you want manual vs auto.

I love the eye tracking stuff, fantastic video!
Some observations, not an invitation to any flame wars or arguing :)
5:42 - forgot to mention throttle steering-have a look at the video of Max Verstappen is doing with his feet in a sim rig lap of Bahrain F1 track. Throttle steering is a key skill when you are wrangling a front wheel driven steed :) 6:40 very few race cars achieve perfect static corner weight distribution. Using your steering, brakes and throttle constantly changes dynamic weight distribution - this is why sometimes you need to break AND accelerate at the same time in corners 9:00 - yes, look ahead but that's just the basics, you always have to look where you want the car to end up on the track - there is a body motor functions connection with the eyesight and brain analysing it and it literary makes you steer the car in the best possible way if you are looking at reference points on the track where you want your car to be. Some call it "driving by instinct" but its actually science and if you manage to "free your mind" i.e. don't look where you are going but look where you want to be it feels like magic. It is however really hard to do as you are fighting the most basic of your survival instincts to do so.
I ma glad I discovered your channel, keep up the good work chaps!

Something you can use to your advantage is something called "target fixation." The way this helps is because when you look at something and walk or move in its direction your body will automatically move you to walk closer or move closer towards it, it also applies to driving and dirtbiking

This may work for cars but target fixation can be dangerous when riding motorcycles. It is true that if you fixate then that’s the direction you will go. That includes the ditch, telephone pole, the back end of the car in front of you, or the curb. You should always be scanning the area in front of you when riding on the street. I make mental notes constantly to myself to look around when riding because I am very prone to target fixating on the car in front of me rather than looking past it to see dangers ahead of that car.

These basics are similar to what is taught in a motorcycle track class - look far ahead, use smooth inputs (though the smooth feet are lower on the list), and apply throttle, braking and turning in a proportionate manner. Those habits are useful on the street, not only for going fast.

Great video. I wish they would teach these tactics in regular drivers Ed. Increasing your field of vision is something I learned a long time ago. I was taught how to drive by a police officer haha. They told me how important it was to always be thinking 1 step ahead. Eyes should be fixed farther down the road the more your speed increases. If everyone implemented that tactic during normal driving we would have a lot less accidents. Also cell phones, yeah don’t look at cell phones while driving. The moment I see someone do that all their driving credibility goes out the window. It’s like failing a test for not writing your name at the top. Immediately fail.
Anyways I’m always looking to improve my driving skills, these techniques not only help you drive faster, but have saved my life on several occasions. The increased field of vision tactic has helped me avoid I don’t know how many accidents during daily drives. Excellent advice, great video.

Regarding the tyres and being smooth, the way I had it explained was to imagine someone passing you a heavy box. If they drop it into your hands, your hand will move down with the weight until you adjust to the weight of the box or it could even slip through your hands and drop it. However, if someone passes you the box and you have time to recognise how heavy it really is before taking the full weight of it, you’ll be steadier

As a motorcycle rider, the most important thing to know is: you go where you look. So always look THROUGH the corner and look at the spot you want to end up at. This goes hand in hand with target fixation. In a lot of accidents, you notice that the rider is looking at what it is trying to avoid and actually drives straight into it.
