Using a 5w isn’t going to degrade your phone less than a 20w, because the power brick prevents this from happening. You even said it yourself, the phone only takes what it needs besides the 13 isn’t designed for the 5w charger. It was designed for older phone who’s battery could damage from overcharge hence only 5w.

That MagSafe measurement also probably isn't very accurate. The MagSafe draws 9W from the power supply, but not all 9W probably reach the phone due to all the losses associated with wireless charging. I also wonder what the maximum wattage is for wireless charging on iPhone models. I think I read that for iPhone SE 2020 it is around 7W max that it can accept wirelessly.

True. I believe the phone controls the voltage input depending up the percentage of the battery. Below 50% the wattage increases and after it decreases so at 80% it’s just cruising vs 0-50% it’s at full tilt hence the heat the phone generates.

It’s not the charging that hurts, it’s the heat. Proper charging etiquette for fast charging without aging the battery would be to leave the phone alone on a solid flat surface (like a table) while charging. The surface will act as a heat sink and lessen the impact that you’d otherwise see from holding and using the phone while charging.

I think the charge is LIMITED to 20 watts while charging normally with phone off. However, when you are using the phone while charging it can add to the 27 watts of power to charge faster while using it.
It’s the same thing that happens with my iPad Pro. When I’m just charging it with any third party 30 watt or more charger, it charges at like 18 watts but if I use it like gaming while charging I can pull all 30 watts.
It’s apples way to preserve battery health. When i tried it on an android phone it pushed all the power through without looking at the scene.

Can somebody pls briefly write results? Which is the best and safest charger for Iphone 13 Pro?

    • @battery_wattage

If you want to preserve your battery as much as possible use a 5-10w charger. Keep in mind it is very slow. You could do overnight every night and Apple’s battery management will learn to wait until you start your day to resume to full charge. Never leave your battery over 90% for longs periods of time. You wouldn’t want to always keep stuffing yourself at a buffet.
If you want a fast charger, any usb c Power Delivery that can supply 20w-30w will do. Looking for the best and safest usb c charger is like looking for the best distilled water. They are all going to do the same thing provided they are legit. I recommend Anker’s 20w or 30w charger (the 13 pro can receive a little more than 20w which allows fast charging without slowing down charge times from using the device at the same time). They are imo the best for what you pay.

Note that the power the phone draws depends on its current charge! Your iPhone 13 Pro was almost empty while the iPhone 13 Pro Max was at 65%. So the 13 Pro will probably start drawing max power while 13 Pro Max should draw less. I'm kinda surprised that it drew the same 19W as the empty phone since current draw and voltage drops after 50% full. The charging curve is well known for iPhones, the fuller they are, the less power (current) they draw.

I'm charging my ip13promax with 67W macbook charger since i havnt bought the charger yet. is it advisable to do this in a long run.
I was able to charge my phone from 20 to 90% in just an hour but temp according to battery and charge app reaches 32c. then when it reaches abovr 80%, the temp lowers to 25 to 26c. Unlike when I use my other power brick 25W, it usually reaches 1hr and 50min to do the same but the temp only maintains at 25 to 26c. I am a bit concern if the rise in temp is not sustainable.

Good to know. About to get my first MagSafe iPhone & currently have wall & car 18W Power Delivery chargers from Kmart 🤩. Hope they deliver!
Side note: How good would it be if the actual iPhone told you what wattage it was being charged at? It'd make things much easier/accurate & prevent the need for these iffy power meters.
