I'm in shock and awe that the groink didn't randomly waddle its way over to the onions. It somehow always found its way to the Cavern of Chaos before noon in every playthrough I've done.
And I believe someone did the math on acquiring purples before the dumbell. If you had none die up to this point, you would've had 105 on hand.
BUT, you could always tail it back to older caves, like the Testing Range (the shooty spider cave), or the Submerged Castle a few times until you have enough.

Time for the TRUE postgame! You thought the game was mean before? Now it's downright cruel! Looking forward to seeing you tackle the caves here; you've learned a lot and know the game's tricks by now!!
Also, the starting area where the ships land here is where you fought the final boss in the first game! This map is based on the Impact Site and Final Trial from Pikmin 1!

15:37 "Spend 5 days creating purples"
Naw, it should only take one. Just find a cave with a bunch of purple fleshlords then speedrun it over and over in one day until the fleshlords stop showing up or you get 100 purples.

The stray yellows got disbanded from your party since their leaf status made them too slow to catch up with you and got too far from the captain. In the same way the blues got disbanded since they were unable to move around the walls and left them there without directing them around the walls

The fog/darkening of the area is caused by you being close to a dungeon, it's just funky how it'll happen from up on the higher curve that just so happens to be right beside it. Most of the caves are in little nooks like Snagret Hole, or else have walls around them such as the Citadel of Spiders or Glutton's kitchen. And yeah, as others have said it's the leaf Pikmin just being too slow. _However,_ I will say that what happened at the base near the end was you walking away before they'd finished leaving the onion. I've done the same thing myself on numerous occasions, and it still occasionally happens in Pikmin 3 where Pikmin are somewhat faster.
Also, I am *so* glad you did not hop off that bamboo into the little area there with your yellows. Between the poison wall and the water you'd have been stuck! D:

(1:35) One thousand weight?! You're gonna need 100 purples for that.
(2:05) Who wants pancakes? First Pikmin lost today.
    (4:37) "It's Chaos House!" :P
(9:03) I remember one of the first games I played that had an autumn season was Mickey Mousecapade on the NES, where the third stage has you go through different seasons in the woods. And, autumn is where you first encounter bears that throw like a bazillion rocks at you and take several shots to defeat.
    (11:28) Conifer Spire: 15 Pokos.
(13:14) I'm not sure how your Pikmin keep getting separated from the group. Maybe it is indeed due to the tricky terrain?
    (13:27) HARRY UP!
(14:46) At least no one is lost to sunset here.
(15:39) As long as you're doing that, you may as well revisit Glutton's Kitchen just to toss at least one Pikmin into a yellow flower in order to register it in your journal.

For farming purples, when needed, I would recommend going to the fourth floor of bulblax kingdom in the awakening wood. A good alternative would be frontier cavern if you are willing to let procedural generation take the wheel
Subterranean complex, which some people have recommended, has you go to floor 8 to grind for purples, taking significantly longer

I love all the notes about Louie eating stuff indiscriminately that imply that he was the one that ate all the golden pikpik carrots and put the company into debt.

Tiny little people getting stuck on walls is a big time frustration. Sorry about that.
The 100 Purple treasure intimidated me so much the first time I played that I didn’t even bother going for it. Recently I did commit to the Purple grind, and while I won’t say it’s a well-designed treasure, it’s not The Worst Ever, considering that caves don’t take up daylight and you can just rush to floors with Purple Candypop Buds and ignore everything else, over and over. Not great, but not as awful as you’d expect.

I think the biggest problem with the dumbbell is that it is a flat out time waster and nothing else. For all the praise I give this game, and even as someone who enjoys the design decisions that many, many players would consider questionable at best, I find it frustrating because raocow is correct. Even if he hadn't lost a single purple, he would not have had enough to lift the treasure, and while normally that's fine because you can just sprout more pikmin, purple pikmin are deliberately designed to be a chore to farm because they are so powerful.
Grinding out purple pikmin should either be something that is self inflicted, to deter players from becoming too powerful, _or_ at the very least, it should be a punishment for playing poorly and losing too many pikmin in battle. It isn't a test of anything, like the player's mastery of mechanics or resource management, and it's not even funny as a mean spirited joke like the endless falling rocks to pad out your time in the Submerged Castle. Ultimately, you're right in that it isn't really that bad as long as you know what cave to visit, it's still a baffling decision on the part of the developers and I think that's what frustrates me the most.

@randomnpc445 I do agree with every point you made here. If they’d made it so that you got enough Purples naturally over the course of the game, it’d be different. But it’s a bafflingly grindy design choice in a game that’s not very grind-focused- or grindy at all, if you’re skilled.

Two cool trivia things I can now say
    1. This area is a remix of The Impact Site, the Day 1 tutorial area from Pikmin 1
    2. Each of the 4 areas is based on a different season
    Distant Tundra: Winter
    Awakening Wood: Spring
    Perplexing Pool: Summer
    Wistful Wild: Autumn

That dumbbell treasure not only requires you to get 100 purples, it also takes about a third of a day to drag back to the ship because it's so heavy. And short of one specific creature deciding to pay a visit during that time, there's never any danger on the way back because it's so close to base.
Definitely the most "key-like" and boring treasure to interact with out of every single game.

believe it or not, i used submerged castle of all dungeons to grind my purples. anyway, here's a fun fact: in literally all other regions, wistful wild is known as Land of Promises/Wishes. an odd choice to be invoking the idea of a promised land when this place seems anything but holy.

    • @gnolfo
      @gnolfo 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

I tried the tutorial cave at first, found that there were no purple candypop buds (due to me owning too many Purples), and figured if there's a place where there HAS to be at least one of those, it's the Submerged Castle.
Turns out, the general consensus seems to be that the best cave to grind for 100 Purples is the Subterranean Complex.
      Oh well.

      @mmmmnism 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

I don't think it's meant to be referred to as the "Promised Land" in the spiritual sense but the "Land of Promises" in the literal sense, i.e., you made a promise and you're keeping that promise (in this case, getting Louie back).

Dash Boots + Leaf Pikmin + interesting area design = Pikmin getting separated from you
Anyway, the Wistful Wild is neat, and I love the intimidating yet hauntingly wistful song that is the Wistful Wild's theme, and it's one of the areas where I really like the dynamic music for stuff like fighting enemies or carrying treasures~ As the final area of the game, made from smashing the Impact Site and Final Trial from last game together, it's a unique vibe~ Of course, kid me never actually did anything in this area, because he was a dumb, easily scared little guy who was not good at Pikmin~
And yeah, the 100 Purple Pikmin treasure is the devs having a laugh~ Bulblax Kingdom's probably the best farming spot for Purples, but as Purples are slow, even when Flowered, that dumbbell is taking up most of a day, definitely.

Wistful Wild is a fave area, the music, the aesthetics, the groink who has a small chance to spawn right outside your base...
The best way to grind for Purples (And Whites) is to return to The Valley of Repose and go through the two dungeons at the back of the map. The Emergence Cave despite being the first cave with Violet Candy Popbuds weirdly does not have them respawn. (from personal experience)

If you really wanna know why some pikmins didn't follow you and got lost:
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
You're too fast, if Pikmin are at a certain distance from you, they go idle. That's one reason at least.

The weight needing a lot of purples is an interesting way to balance their dominance in combat, making them risky to use because you know you need a lot of them...... if you know about it during the playthrough. Putting it in the final area is meh, and it shouldnt even be 1000 (although the shock of 1000 is pretty funny), 750 or something would have worked about the same

Final thoughts: Aww, that was lovely! I love seeing your calm initial exploration of the areas, and your laugh when you first discovered that dumbbell was wonderful.
This map has my favourite music, and the surprising linearity you mentioned is a refreshing change of pace now that they _know_ you have all pikmin types. Clearing out an area with one group, then going and getting another cohort for the next section... it's all very satisfying.
I can't remember which cave I looped the geyser to get purples, to get the dumbbell, but I do recall it only took one in-game day. (But it did take me, like, an hour.) Though unfortunately I only got _exactly_ 100 purples, then foolishly lost one to a creature around the dumbbell. So I had to go back again and make sure I had, like, 105!
And yeah, the terrain here is weirdly, uh... polygonal and difficult for the pikmin's navigation? That really tripped me up the first time too.
