I'm going to comment that I enjoyed this game. It's not AQ and you have to play your cards right so that you don't get piled up on. There's cards that can negate someone else's card. I like the dice allocation mechanic and trying the different characters. I also like the monster dice, you simply draw it out of a bag and roll it. Easy enough and looks way better on the table then cards everywhere. It's certainly not a 10 but I give it a 7.5.
Scathing, but fair. I played it once cooperatively and once competitively and I enjoyed it, but it warrants a few play throughs before I can safely agree with you. That being said, someone in our group did hoard the secret quest cards and DID win outright, that I cannot deny. Thanks for the review.
I got the Kickstarter version as part of a job lot with Arcadia Quest Inferno. I wouldn't have searched for it on it's own and I certainly wouldn't be paying the £200+ that is being asked for it in the UK? At least in gives me extra characters to use in Arcadia Quest.
I kickstarted it and mostly agree with your review. I find that only the coop version is really worth it, as a light, entry-level dungeon delve. Then again, to be honest, I mostly got it for the Kickstarter exclusives, AQ crossover cards and new heroes, which will be a great addition to my AQ:I Kickstarter... when it arrives. So, I guess we arrive at the same conclusion. :P
I disagree with the part that says this game is boring and not exciting. I have a blast playing it. But tastes differ. Maybe it is because I like random aspects in games and they usually don't deter me from having a good time but rather add to it.
King making has happened in literally every game I have played, and every game my friends have told me about. Unfortunately the game severely lacks any tension or excitement. Cards are predominately used to help players to succeed during the game, and then, as you said, used to slam the guy about to win in the last round. Overall, I don't mind the game; but if we are being honest, I haven't actually touched my own copy outside of breaking everything down to one box, and gutting it for more Arcadia Quest miniatures.
I agree completely. Munchkin is the perfect analogy, and I despise Munchkin. This is better, but that's not saying much. The competitive Masmorra game I played this weekend with 5 players was way, way too long and the "take that" aspects were random and frustrating.
I have no interest in competitive dungeon crawlers (no idea why that would be fun), but I ordered this game to play the coop version to play with my pre-schooler (who loves D&D tropes). I hope she likes it. We'll probably use our own minis for the monsters.
Glad i pulled my pledge now. Especially as my Arcadia Quest: Inferno Hell of a box has just arrived. Had a feeling this would end up too light and random.
CMON is pretty hit and miss but to say that they can't pull off any good game? Like, I'm not the biggest fan of Zombicide but, I really enjoy AQ and is the only reason I picked up Masmorra. And even though it literally just became available, I've heard nothing but positive things about Cthulhu: Death May Die. So, no, I can't agree with you on that.
Masmorra is a not as good Dungeoneer. Dungeoneer is by far the better competitive dungeon crawl. It has more interesting mechanisms and better player interaction.

Keeping it real! Keep that up!
It seemed lackluster, and I'm now more convinced to set my eyes on other games!
Thanks!

Thanks for an honest and fun review!

Drew Jameson I have young kids as well, how did it pan out playing with your child?
what is that game behind your head? the one with the teeth and tongue?
What do you think about Stout Hearted Heroes Dungeoneers KS btw?
Hey if anyone doesn't want their kickstarter edition I'll buy it off you.
Glad i pulled my pledge now. Especially as my Arcadia Quest: Inferno Hell of a box has just arrived. Had a feeling this would end up too light and random.
Glad I didnt kickstarted it. Great review Nick
You realize the KS came with 14 characters who can be used in AQ as well? Well worth it for that alone IMO..
You do not choose the starting player, the first player is always the youngest one among your group
Can we now finally decide that CMON is simply not capable of making any game? TY.

You forgot that you left in the two extra white dice that you get with the kickstarter. Still doesn't matter, no one should get this game.
I agree! This game is so boring and long! I sold my painted copy and kept my KSE for AQ:I.
