+Anthony Medves Here's hoping you don't have to wait much longer! And hey, hopefully this will help get you playing a little quicker when it does arrive :)
I'm also a KS backer and I have no problem with this video, in fact I think it's great and gives me some insight before the game is even in my lap. Great job Rodney, always a class act and very well done on this video!
Glad you enjoyed :) I understand that peoples concerns weren't really over my video, but the lack of an update from CMoN on the KS, which I think they've now recently provided.
Rodney, I wanted to thank you again for all your videos. I just purchased Masmorra and had to watch your video again for the rules. Wish I could have Kickstarted it to get "The Lucky One". I could use luck with my rolls too and playing him might have helped!
Hi Rodney, as usual love you videos.I have a question: at 15:00-16:05, you are saying that when you start your turn with a monster (or if you run into one while exploring) you HAVE to fight that (those) monster before you can do any other action. BUT at 16:00, you said that "as long as you survive, even if monster remain you can then take any action as you like as normal..." so if I understand this correctly, you could open the chest in that room (for example) without having succeed at killing the monster there 1st? correct? thanksif that is the case, interested; I had understood that the loot/chest could only be looted after the room is clear.
You always have to fight, but you don't have to beat the monsters. So, as long as you perform a single fight with the monsters there, even if they survive, you can then still loot treasures, drink potions, etc, after that. The room doesn't have to be clear - you just have to have fought with the monsters first.
Awesome title. I gotta get it when it comes to my area. I never got a chance to play my copy or Arcadia Quest yet, but I'm buying this one because I'm a huge fan. The gameplay seems quite different. Nice!
I really hope they release more expansions for Masmorra! My daughter and I had tons of fun playing this and even used all our miniatures (instead of dice) as the monsters. Which made it WAY more enjoyable! Hope to see more Masmorra content soon! I think we have PLENTY of heroes, but maybe more skill trees? More monsters? Dragon's Lair! More middle size dungeons, more tile diversity? etc.
Most CMON games seem to be one shot games that have all of their bonus content tied up in Kickstarter exclusive add-ons and goals. Usually if the retail sales are successful they will reprint or continue printing, but the last time I saw expansions come out after the fact was for Arcadia Quest a long time ago and Zombicide before that. Seems their new sales model is "run the KS campaign > make a profit > move to next KS".
I know you do not traditionally do play through videos with Kickstarter exclusives, however, if it is available, I am sure we would all love to see Luke's reaction of his mini fig
Great video! Picking this one up at Origins! Couple questions. 1. When using step symbols to move, am I allowed to explore more than one room on a single move, assuming I don't run into any monsters along the way? 2. For a pit room, am I allowed to use any abilities that may generate a Step symbol prior to resolving the pit's damage? This would allow me to spend the generated symbol to satisfy the pit's cost to avoid the damage. Alternately, could I spend my step token to satisfy this cost? 3. When a curse tile is drawn, does the active player lose their turn, or can they continue on exploring after resolving the curse tile effect? 4. For companions dice...After gaining, I now have 1 die more than my number of "Used Dice" spaces. Am I aloud to spend my extra die, even though I don't have a slot to place it after spending?
Hey Nathan, let's see if I can assist: 1. Yes. 2. I'm not completely sure on that one. I would tend to play it that you have to already have the step to spend, but that's not an official ruling. 3. I don't remember the curse tile effects, but if they don't say anything about ending your turn, then they don't end your turn. 4. Yes.
Published by C-MON games. Thats a way to say it. I always pronounce it c'mon games, because whenever I see all the kickstarter exclusives I missed, all I can say is C'MON!
Great video, thanks a lot. Waited for that video for a long time, but well worth the wait : ) Will you do a play through of Masmorra? Maybe even for both (or even all three) game modes?
Same. I got it too. Wonder why there's no Rotten Rodney too. Not saying Rodney's rotten but his die roll and questionable strategy are, sometimes, pretty rotten.
Great episode as usual, banking this one for when my copy arrives. You always make more sense than a rule book. Can't wait to get my hands on those miniatures too :)
Hi Rodney, just wondering if you had a chance to measure the board yet? I was wondering what are the sizes of the game board tiles? Are they 7cm, 14cm and 21cm ? Also does every small tile have 4 openings on each side? Or are some sides closed, dead ends, etc?
Hey Rodney! I just got my copy today. Very neat, light dungeon crawler. I have two questions. When you are in a room with a treasure chest and a monster can you still unlock the chest by docking the dice? Do you get a treasure card for every monster you kill? Thanks
As long as you fight all the monsters in your room first (you don't have to defeat them, but you have to fight them), then you can do any action within the room. You get a treasure card when you defeat a monster. You can hold at most 6.
Hey Rodney, do you know off hand... Can you teleport out of a room (using a portal or a treasure card) before any monsters in the room can resolve their attack(s) against you?
You can’t teleport out of a room with monsters using the teleport function of a room (which the game calls Taking a Room Action). You'll find this covered in the box on page 8, Engaging Monsters. However, you may teleport as an effect of a Treasure Card, as you are able to play Cards in rooms with monsters (also covered in that box, I believe).
The minor and a major monster on the spawn tile aren't actually related to the tile itself. Like, that green slime for example, probably appeared on the medium sized room, and just simply moved to the spawn tile (it did not spawn from it). The spawn rooms (with the twirly symbols in the middle) only spawn monsters indicated by the tiny icon in the corner. Skeleton = Minor Monster, Dragon = Major Monster. Had there been both the skeleton and the dragon icon on that empty spawn tole, he would need to spawn both, but in that timestamp, there was only the skeleton symbol. That's why only one minor monster was added there. I hope that made some sense and cleared some things up for you.
hey Rodney. thank you for a good video again. how long does a typical game take? Also is this a game I could get anybody to play or is it better kept for my gaming circle?
+Andythrax Hey Andy, the length of game will vary based on the players, but I'd say 40 minutes would be typical. The other question I wouldn't know how to answer accurately. For me it would be based on my perception of their interest, experience.
Hey Rodney! I know it's a bit of work, but can you produce a small video on the rules of the epic and alliance modes? I am having a bit of trouble with the big tile
Great Video as Always! One question: I have the Chance to get a cheap Copy of the Game. But the Monster dice are Missing. Would it be possible to use D6es and those monster Sheets with Like Numbers for each Monster to Play the Game anyway, using miniatures to represent the Monsters or is that a Bad Idea?
I'm really not sure. Hopefully watching the video can give you a sense of how to create replacement parts (I shot the video long enough ago, I don't remember the details enough to be able to assist).
What are the sizes of the game board tiles? Are they 7cm, 14cm and 21cm ? Also does every small tile have 4 openings on each side? Or are some sides closed, dead ends, etc?
Great video sir, i just got my game (yeah its so late) i have a question, maybe you can help me what is diffrent between alliance mode and epic mode? Thank you
+Windy Lim I'm travelling and don't have the rules in front of me, but they are explained there. Sorry I couldn't be more specific right now. Hope you have a great time playing!
You mentioned if there were no more dice of a particular type, you can take one from a room with no heroes and use that. If you get the expansion that includes more dice, do you simply keep adding more monsters or is it actually more of a hard cap e.g. you cannot have more than 8 minor monsters at one time?
Hi Tristan, I agree that having more dice could massively increase the difficulty level and possibly lead to a congested dungeon. I asked this question directly to CMON (and suggested they address it in the rulebook) before the final rules came out, but got no answer. I started a thread on BGG and got some helpful suggestions from others: boardgamegeek.com/article/22299882#22299882
Wow this is the international version of the Brazilian game Masmorra de Dados? The game is incredibly similar. edit: ok, not similar, they're identical rules but with miniatures and better art.
wont it be more fun to draw the room tiles without knowing what that room could be? that way you don't expect whats coming. If that's not in the rule book then it could be a house rule thing right?
The nice thing about a board game, is once you own it, you can play anyway you like :) That said, what is presented here are the rules for the game, and the design team decided this was the way they felt was best.
Great video as usual. Was the game as fiddly as it appeared on your walkthrough? It seemed like there were many more small rules to remember than usual, even for a CMON game. How often did you find yourself digging through the rulebook to try to find an answer for one of the many specific scenarios?
Michael Rasnic That's a tough thing to measure. What seems fiddly to one gamer, can be straight forward to another - and neither is wrong, it's just the unique nature of each gamer. For what it's worth, I did not find myself needing to pull the rules out when I was playing. The one thing I needed to look up was the minion effects, but there is a player aid for that.
He won't. Rodney doesn't give his opinions on games. He teaches you how to play them. If you see a game on this channel, then it most likely means that he likes it enough to spend a couple days working on a video for it.
Thanks for the interest Billy, but I don't like to review or rank games. That said, I only feature games on the show that I like in some way, so that might give you a sense of the games I like :)
Hi, Can you recommend this game this game for someone who doesn't understand fluently english? I understand perfect English but my game group doesn't cause I live in Puerto Rico. for what can I see most cards have symbols to understand taking card actions and the rest is publicly shown that I can explain. But I would dislike playing a competitive game and have to explain every card they have secret in his or her hand.
The treasure cards have a lot of text, so you would want to have a clear understanding of English for that, but it really depends on how much English your group really knows.
So how much replayability does this game have? I'm absolutely loving this art, the minitures, etc. But I'm hoping this isn't a game you play 5 times and then never play again. Also, can we expect any expansions later?
Hey Trent, I don't offer reviews on this channel, so I can't help you there. I find there is wildly varying opinions people will have on how replayable games are. Not sure what CMON's plans are for expansions.
I believe it is still waiting to ship to Kickstarter backers, then it will go into retail. There were delays that weren't expected... I likely would have delayed the video if I had known it would get held up this long.
Oh yes, I agree. The rule book had some things that were not always intuitive to find. You'll also find an index in our video descriptions with links to specific locations in the video to find key rules, if that helps in the future.
Rodney, I love you mate but this is a big kick in the balls for us kickstarter backers. CMON have been dead silent on this for 2 months now. either way, keep up the great work
I agree with Walter. My balls do feel kicked. I love CMON products. I wish for the sake of their future success that they consider hiring a community manager, or at least assign someone competent to perform that role. It speaks to the quality of their products that they can piss so many people off, and still turn a decent revenue figure on every project. However, it only takes a dud or two, and all that can go bye-bye.
Agreed Walter. Its certainly not Rodney's fault (and thanks for the video Rodney!), so I kind of wanted to thumbs you down, but we need to get CMON to remember this project in any way we can...it was already delayed once and was supposed to be delivered this month but we haven't heard anything since mid August except a blurb about an update coming days ago.
That's absolutely true. We are definitely referring to the Kickstarter, and not the Indiegogo fundraiser (I was a backer of both!). And I absolutely love that Rodney's made a great gameplay video. It's just slightly disheartening to see his level of professionalism and outreach to his community in stark contrast to that of the publisher. I just wish the publisher did more on this front because they make good products and I don't want to see them fail as a business.
I'm sorry to have to try contact you like this, Mr. Smith, but I didn't really have a better way to get in touch with you directly, it's about your son. Lately he has just been too OP. He generates coins too often and buys up all the treasure cards. He's dreadfully effective playing solo, too... and I sincerely hope you can sit him down and have a talk with him. I think he needs to be nerfed.
So excited for my Kickstarter to come in hopefully next month. Been waiting a long time to play this.
+Anthony Medves Here's hoping you don't have to wait much longer! And hey, hopefully this will help get you playing a little quicker when it does arrive :)

Thanks fr the fine teaching job :)

I was starting to wonder if I'd ever get this, but my copy just came in. Hooray!!!
Great to hear! Hope you have a great time playing :)
Rodney, I wanted to thank you again for all your videos. I just purchased Masmorra and had to watch your video again for the rules. Wish I could have Kickstarted it to get "The Lucky One". I could use luck with my rolls too and playing him might have helped!

Wow. Great video. Just bought the game. That's a lot of rules and exceptions to remember. Gonna have to watch again.
Hope you have a great time playing!

Will you do a play through of Masmorra? Maybe even for both (or even all three) game modes?
I'd like to, but if we do, it'll likely be for the standard rules as shown here.
Even "only" the standard rules would be great : )
I got the Lucky Luke and the Cross-over kit as well. Can't wait 'til this one arrives.
+Trent Brooks Thanks for the support!
I'm pretty sure the main reason I backed this game on KS was for the Luke, the Lucky extra mini. Keep up the good work, Rodney.
Thanks for the support. Here's hoping it's on the way to you soon!
Same. I got it too. Wonder why there's no Rotten Rodney too. Not saying Rodney's rotten but his die roll and questionable strategy are, sometimes, pretty rotten.
There's an idea. An overpowered character whose controlling player has to suggest two actions and the other players decide what the hero does.
Mine is coming in next week, thanks for the vid Rodney! Now ready to play this right out of the box :)
Hope you have a great time with it :)
Great episode as usual, banking this one for when my copy arrives. You always make more sense than a rule book. Can't wait to get my hands on those miniatures too :)
Something tells me you'll do a fine job adding some colour to them :)
Thanks for the video! Finally got my game yesterday and looking forward to playing it!
Hope you have a great time with it Nick!
Wonderfully explained :)
Thank you Dean :)
Great rules overview like always! Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you Nathan!
great video as always. got my game, watching the rules, playing in the weekend :)
Hope you have a great time with it!
Wow very nice and clear explanation!!
Thanks so much!
good video :D i just recieved the game today can't wait to play it.
Oh btw don't you guys use the time stamps anymore to quicly find some answers ?
We do, but I forgot on this one (and a few recent ones), and made a note to add them later... been busy, but will get to it.
Hi Rodney, excelent video as always! Can you tell how big are the monster dice? They do like 20mm ...
Yep, 20mm.
thank you, have a nice day :)
I hope there is gameplay for the coop version.
Would likely do a game play on the standard rules, if we get a chance.
in 13:00, does it mean that he lost the action die for the whole game or just his next turn?
Just that turn.
Searched through the archives to watch this before watching the newer video xD. Hello, past Rodney!
Hello from the future!
6.7cm, 13.5cm and 20.2cm
Yep, except for traps (of course), and special event tiles.
Oh fantastic! Thanks Rodney!
Watch It Played sweet thanks.
You mentioned an alliance mode right at the end. Is that some sort of co-op version?
+Thalfon Yep, exactly!
Awesome! Thanks Rodney! Sounds like we played it correctly!
Is the negative 1xp only for minor monsters? Has no effect on Major Monsters / Bosses / Room Effects / Cards?
Jacob K Right! The minor monsters aren't gaining you as much experience now that you're a better adventurer!
25:24 Spawning: there are 2 kinds (minor and major) of monster icons on the tile, however you only spawned a minor one. Why?
If we're talking about the same time stamp, I do not see a major monster symbol there.

No plans to currently (so many games, so little time :) )
Watch It Played ahh ok thanks.
Please make a play thru of this game. We need to Watch it Played
We'll see :)
yes!!!! been waiting for this one lol
Thanks a lot for make me discover this game's rules.
You're very welcome - glad you found it helpful!

Also does every small tile have 4 openings on each side? Or are some sides closed, dead ends, etc?
I'm travelling currently and don't know without pulling the box and going through each tile.
Regarding traps, do you always take the damage when you move adjacent to it even if you disarm it on your turn?
Yep. If you move into that space on your turn, you take the damage, before taking the action to disarm it.
Great video sir,
i just got my game (yeah its so late)
i have a question, maybe you can help me

No, but that's just me.
so there's no reason to get extra dice from the base set? I havnt got my ks yet just trying to plan ahead 😀
It's going to come down to what each person prefers. Some will be fine with what's in the base game, others will want more.
I'd love to see a gameplay of this game.
We'll see!
Rodney you mention that you can spend movement on bosses but I was unsure if this is true. Can you confirm?
Yep, I can confirm. I believe you'll find that rule specifically under the bosses section in the rule book (not in the Dungeon Master Phase area).
I'd love seeing a co-op playthrough
We'll see!
This game looks very interesting! Any chance of a play through after Mansions of Madness is done?

Do monsters in rune rooms move out from these rooms during the dungeon phase in an alliance game?
They do, assuming that they are still following the rules for movement of course!
Time to do a playthrough video? With Luke playing his own hero: Luke the Lucky?
As soon as we get a chance to sit down and play it, we'll plan a play through. Been a busy couple weeks with other content :)

Looks good this game. And teach spanish too, change a z for the s , and mazmorra = dungeon.
cidroq Masmorra is d7ngeon in Portuguese (the game designer is Brazilian;))
Thanks for the clarification, my bad.
Oh, and currently, the listing for this video on BGG is under the heading "51st State". I assume that's a mistake.
Yep, got it fixed, thanks for the heads up!
HOW MANY TIMES CAN YOU RE-ROLL THE DICES?
You'll find that explained here: th-cam.com/video/dBaAUYin2ZY/w-d-xo.htmlm59s
where can i buy this nowadays?
I believe it is still waiting to ship to Kickstarter backers, then it will go into retail. There were delays that weren't expected... I likely would have delayed the video if I had known it would get held up this long.
I see... thanks for the answer : )
Can you do ninja all stars please
Thanks for the interest! I avoid pre-announcing games we might feature as my schedule can change and I don't like to disappoint.
What happens if your hero gets defeated?
You'll find that explained here: th-cam.com/video/dBaAUYin2ZY/w-d-xo.htmlm37s
Thanks for the link. I found it in the rule book after posting, but that was tucked in an unusual location compared to other content in the guide.
Oh yes, I agree. The rule book had some things that were not always intuitive to find. You'll also find an index in our video descriptions with links to specific locations in the video to find key rules, if that helps in the future.
Arkham Horror LCG please!!! ;)
No plans to currently, but we will have a preview of it from an interview with Fantasy Flight Games. Coming soon.
Rodney, I love you mate but this is a big kick in the balls for us kickstarter backers. CMON have been dead silent on this for 2 months now. either way, keep up the great work
Walter Schmitty I'm a backer too :) Looking forward to the final KS copy. Hopefully the video can have everyone ready to play as soon as it arrives!
No, I think they are referring to the kickstarter for Masmorra, not our Indiegogo fundraiser.
"This is not an expansion for Arcadia Quest"
*Looks at the end of the Masmorra trailer* Well actually.....
He's un-nerfable :)
YOU"RE BEAUTIFUL IT'S TRUUUUUUUUUUUE.
I'M LIKE A BIRD I WILL ONLY FLY AWWWAAAAYYYYY
