It’s like you’re one of the only music production channels on TH-cam actually teaching techniques for real life scenarios, whilst other vary from exceedingly theoretical to pure obnoxious infotainment. As a person working with major labels on the regular, i can say that these tips separate a talented producer from a seasoned one. The latter being more adaptive in the ever-changing landscape due to actually knowing why something works, not just what works. One fun EQ tip I’ve discovered in a mixing session recently - if a vocal feels strained try lowering around 900 - 1.2kHz area. Listen to the band in audition mode until you start yawning. I call this area the “old man strain”. When attenuated, it makes the vocalist sound more professional in the vocal pressure area and makes the vocal airier without losing any punch and low-mid body.
Thanks Daniel! Great to hear that you find these techniques both advanced and valuable in professional settings! Also, thanks for sharing your tips - I'll have to try that out! SageAudio.com
@@sageaudio Seeing the high level what you teach, I wouldn't dare share any mixing tips with you, as it would be super conceited, especially since I'm no mix engineer. Just sharing my humble findings with the community :)
Love the Wave Maxx Volume to cover upward/downward compression and limiting. Such a useful plug. Not always the right solution for all 3 but super handy having it all there. Love the side EQ at 2kHz on the verb, makes complete sense. Cheers.
Awesome video ! Thank's for letting more time to listen the changes :) I would love to see a tutorial on how to create space in a mix. I'm often too conservative which create masking and overall lack of clarity when the track is finished and I find it difficult to know what to cut and what to keep in each track to create a cohesive whole..
Some good stuff but too many expensive plugins on here for somebody looking to do this sort of thing. You can do this with much cheaper tools than what’s been shown. Waves rcomp can do upward compression and rverb can do a lot of great things as well. The waves deesser is great too
Do I use the limiter on the voice instead of one of the compressors? Or do I use compressors and then use it before or after? BTW Great Channel ty for your content! "!
That was really a very good information. But the Pro EQ where you’ve been adjusting Is It low frequency or low mid frequency or high frequency or high mid frequency. I use studio one 5 Artist version.
Well, damn. I've shaven off mid side low mids for more clarity but somehow never thought about touchign the sides... also; i knew of upward compression but i dont think i've ever properly understood everything about it (+ expander/gate) or truly grasp how useful could it be in a mix... or for that matter, that fabfilter's C was different from the other compressors lol i knew it was freaky, i just didnt know how much

ok not sure I understand the attenuate 2k side image thing. I agree that it soudns better, just not sure how to achieve it. Is this for a steroe vocal track or comp?
I’m new to mixing vocals and this was a really direct straight to the point video , easy to understand thank you Sage Audio ! Btw what’s the limiter that you used in this video called ?
While there are no hacks/shortcuts/formulas in this field because literally everything is subjective and situational at the same time, the video is very informative. I strongly recommend against these titles as newbies will start taking this knowledge for a sure formula rather than taking the knowledge as a grain of salt and understand ing what’s going on and which situations is this knowledge applicable for.
Thanks for watching this one! You're right! There is definitely a level of subjectivity to mixing and mastering, but there is a lot of objectivity as well. For example, the sections on nasal and vowel frequencies near the end of the video will apply to just about every voice - that said, I see what you mean about being more transparent about the subjectivity of these things. SageAudio.com
Thanks for watching Marvin! I haven't experienced that, typically you'll have the option for Mono to Stereo. If you don't see that, try making your track stereo. SageAudio.com

Thanks for watching Ramon! This vocal is from a stem, so it was exported as a stereo file with identical signals on the left and right channels. This resulted in it being a stereo file that's still mono. SageAudio.com
