One of my favorites. Saw it in a theater in tge 70s. Always wanted to obtain it on VHS during the 80s. Nobody ever heard of it! It was not available to rent or purchase.
The movie had three basically unknown actresses in it who all became famous in later years. The movie itself was haunting in a style similar to David Lynch's style.

Kubricks quality is undeniable, but over 100 takes ? I'd love to know which take made the cut, #37, #67 OR #88.Anything less than the last take shows it was unnecessary.
Theories abund that the shining was Kubrick dealing with the guilt of filming the "moon landing ""
And king was plenty pissed ,and Stanley gave him many jabs, some petty .as in changing the color of the VW bug wrecked on the side of the road.
AND did jack survive the icy maze ?
Somehow his robe is on the costume shop proprietor in eyes wide shut.

Shelley was a friend of mine in the '70s. We were pretty girls, some actresses like Candy Clark, Huston, more who revolved around the social world of Jack Nicholson, Dennis, all the cool guys. Often we met at my home in Benedict Canyon, and the club scene like "Helanas". Overtime, winds shift we scattered and Shelley had a boyfriend during that time, a young heir in the Tobacco Trade. I guess I thought she was with him & noted she was no longer around BH, Hollywood. Then the horrible preying Doctor whoever .....who dragged her through hellacious, invasive and disturbing interviews. Now she is gone, I will wonder if there was anything to have helped her, could I have reached out but I had no idea what, how. She was a huge talent, she was a lot of fun, she was smart. We need to help each other. PS: on a personal note, seeing these photos of her in the '70s made me recall that we would trade clothes sometimes as we were both very thin, about same height and same taste in dressing. I swear the white delicate Victorian dress in one of her portraits was mine. The photographer took photos of me in that dress too. (maybe I am wrong, but we girls traded, borrowed clothes sometimes fighting over getting an item returned). 🤷🏼‍♀️ Life is a mysterious path. I am sorry she suffered deeply for her art, beyond tolerable, it is so sad.

In essence, she is being asked by the circumstances to rise to an occasion that is beyond her ability to comprehend. I lived in Blanco during Shelly's time there. She had the habit of walking incessantly. On country roads, the highway, and the streets in the very small town.
