Im from Tenerife and WE ARE NOT AGAINST TOURISM. We are against that is making poor our locals. Prices are getting high because of tourism and people from here can't afford that. Easy to understand. Tourists said "increase your prices".. but... What about our people? We are working for the same money. Salaries are not growing. We want equality and regularization. Thats it.

Aussie here, I grew up in a huge drink and larrikin culture, Brits are great fun in Britain, however on holiday I will avoid destinations (hotels, bars) anywhere "popular" to Brits on holiday.
It’s there country and we have to respect what they want. For us it is a fun holiday destination but for them it is there home and a lot of holiday makers don’t respect other countries rules and values.
Will the Spanish government raise the minimum wage for workers out of their profits or will the tourists have to pay premium prices for food/drink excursions etc for a better quality of life for residents? I’ve yet to see any government put their hands in their own pockets

I live in a tourist town in the UK and I can't stand it when young people from all over the country come here. They walk across the street, with no regard for cars, loud and obnoxious. It's not because it's British tourists, it's because it's young binge drinkers, or hen/stag nights. It's gonna be a problem no matter where they go. On top of that, my town focuses more on tourists than the people who actually live here, even though for most of the year, the tourists won't flock here because of the weather

We’ve been going to the Canaries for the last 14 years and Tenerife for 10 years and we will not be going back now we know what they think of us. We always tip when All Inc, €20 to the cleaner, €20 for the bar etc and eat out locally a few times despite being All Inc. but no more. They can keep their islands. We won’t be going back!
No one mentions all the people from European countries coming here and buying houses. The government should create a resident law, this is a small island its impossible to live here, we want to keep our culture and identity. If this continues like that in 20 years we the canarian people would be the minority in our proper land. Tourist are more than welcome but not to come and live here or buy properties here.
Wealthy people the world over are pricing locals out of housing in the planet's most desirable holiday places and cities .....investments for them mean lack of affordable homes for locals.

Even though i do know exactly the type of British holiday goers that they are talking about in this video, i must point out, that in defence of the British, we don't have this problem in Malta. The British that come to Malta are very well behaved. It is in fact the Spanish, Italians, Scandinavian and from other countries, who come to Malta to learn English who are extremely loud, obnoxious and disruptive. Some of them damaging heritage sites, getting drunk, vandalising property and going totally out of control. The problem is not the nationality, it's the age of the tourists.

I am from the Canaries ,let be clear of this, locals are not upset with turism but, in the way is done.We got polluted ocean 100 million litres of sewage; the second poorest region in Spain, Canarian Government failing to uphold the law and environmental regulations by approving large scale building in the islands,we are so overwhelming crowded and we don't have the infrastructure for it. locals can't afford rent ect ect ect . We blame our government, not the tourists.

It is not just the Canary Islands where tourists are not welcome. For the record not all tourists are drunken yobs but perhaps where this does happen those who sell the drink should accept some responsibility. I do live in a tourist area myself and accept that it is part of life and the local economy. I have noticed that even in the UK when you are on holiday there are those in tourist areas who do not like visitors coming into the area and this seems to have been a growing trend over recent years.

They spend the whole year bragging about their record of tourist arrivals, but in most cases the workers continue to earn the minimum wage, who are lucky enough to have full-time work, because part-time or hourly work is very popular. Since the business is tourism, why are they going to rent apartments for housing, no, better for tourism, and that, when they are not large companies that are dedicated solely to that. The government saying that there is no housing and a large part of the constructions that you see in some areas are luxury chalets, or apartment buildings worth a few hundred thousand euros, in towns where workers from all over the world still and hopefully continue to live. who were born there, but who will soon have to leave because they cannot afford to rent or rent. For example, there are people who live in their town, all their lives, who want to become independent and who hopefully earn a few thousand euros, just the rent at least 600 or 700 euros, gasoline or a bus to go to work every day, How much do you have left to live on for the rest of the month? That, among other things, is what people complain about, not about tourism itself.

As normal the media pick up on a few negative points and try to make a big thing about it. Most of what I call the yahoo brigade just go on holiday to have good time and are a bit loud which can be annoying if you want it quiet but there’s always plenty of places to move to for a quieter time. Over many years i have only seen a couple of instances where people have been very disrespectful to local staff in bars and restaurants. The tourist reps that take groups to special locations should state on the bus to not litter areas, most will respect the rep. As always when plenty of money goes into a country, it looks great but unfortunately only the rich take the majority of it, good luck to the people on getting a fairer deal but if their government is anything like any of our major parties, it will be a struggle. Just my thoughts.

Not everyone wants to go away for culture though: somerimes you just want a week in the sun by a pool and to read a book. Im not saying get absolutely drunk every day and night - but not everyone is a culture vulture, we lead busy lives & sometimes just want some down time

As normal the media pick up on a few negative points and try to make a big thing about it.
Most of what I call the yahoo brigade just go on holiday to have good time and are a bit loud which can be annoying if you want it quiet but there’s always plenty of places to move to for a quieter time. Over many years i have only seen a couple of instances where people have been very disrespectful to local staff in bars and restaurants. The tourist reps that take groups to special locations should state on the bus to not litter areas, most will respect the rep. As always when plenty of money goes into a country, it looks great but unfortunately only the rich take the majority of it, good luck to the people on getting a fairer deal but if their government is anything like any of our major parties, it will be a struggle. Just my thoughts.
