8:00 - Sorry but the author is mistaken. The darker the roast, the less caffeine stays in the bean. It is the light roasts that have the most caffeine unless the coffee is artificially infused with extra caffeine. It is due to the roasting of the bean that burns away the caffeine over time. The whole point of that passage was that they could not handle the deeper flavors of coffee, nor could they drink as much. Their tastebuds can only handle light roast, and only a single cup due to the caffeine content.
"The same could not be said of the Yorpil and Karlaekens, who despite loving the flavor of coffee could only handle a single cup of light roast. They tended to get the jitters quite easily, but that simply meant they got more bang for their buck through a single cup."

Humans do have an internal alarm clock. Humans need around eight hours of sleep after being awake for sixteen hours.
The problem is that most people are sleep deprived and try to get by on just six hours of sleep after being awake eighteen hours.
The key to waking up when you want to is to go to sleep eight hours before you want to wake up. If I fall asleep 10 PM, I'll wake up just a few minutes before 6 AM. If I fall asleep at 9 PM, I'll wake up just before 5 AM.

I get six hours exactly. EXACTLY SIX. I have to FORCE myself to go back to bed for two more hours. If unregulated and stimulant free, I stay awake for approximately 18 hours without the urge to rest. Unfortunately, if I deregulate my schedule, I have a sleep pattern that goes as such. Remain awake for 18-20 hours, sleep for 8-10, repeat. I am built different which leads to an unfortunate effect of being unsuitable for standard human social living. Out in the wild though? I can somehow make enough food for three people while maintaining that exact schedule with zero ill effects. I feel invigorated and energized every time I wake up while just following what my body tells me. On stimulants, however, and things get messy. Any stimulant pushes my period of wakefulness to near to 24-26 hours, and sleep time to 13-16 hours. This state, however, leads to burnout that causes numerous issues. Mostly related to physical health. To this day, I wish I was normal, like everyone else, but it's becoming more and more apparent to me that I might just have to not be a part of the standard workflow of society and instead break from it entirely, or find a work position that allows such a cycle.

@@71tofuThat's how I was sleeping in High School. I found a couple things helped me.
First, try sleeping in two shifts with a couple hours between them. From 8 PM to midnight and then from 2 AM to 6 AM ended up working best for me back then.
Also, try watching sunrise and sunset each day. That regulated my cycle more than everything else, and it was pretty and relaxing, as well.
Physical exercise _can_ help, but my results were varied since I had gym and JROTC classes on the same day, but these days a half hour of calisthenics in the evening is enough to ensure I'm not wired at bed time.

So, the only little quibble I have with this story is with Rimiki’s use of her telepathic abilities to torture her students into submission. Causing intense pain *just* to make a classroom full of children or teenagers behave is reprehensible and abominable behaviour.
I don’t know why I’ve had such a strong reaction it-enough to compel me to pause the video to write this comment, but I’d feel remiss if I didn’t bring it up. Maybe it’s because they are just young students. Maybe it’s because it’s really petty to hurt them for natural student behaviour. Or maybe it’s because of how entirely unfair it is.
They are not telepaths so they have absolutely no way to protect themselves. She’s inflicting pain on students that don’t even have mental shielding or any recourse other than endure it as best they can. I dunno, it feels so unnecessary and an abuse of power.
And it’s a shame because the rest of the story is wonderful and I generally really enjoy the stories from that writer-identified by familiar races such as the Yorpil and otherwise I’d be content to listen to the stories for hours.
Anyway, I don’t intend to come off as offensive or insulting. I mean this to be constructive criticism and nothing else.
