I’ve been a huge fan of hers since before Die Young had originally come out, I remember watching the WIPs as she posted them. It’s been a privilege to get to see her grow and succeed on such a grand scale. Vivzie is an inspiration for aspiring artists everywhere imho.

THIS. IS. JUST. INCREDIBLE. Hazbin Hotel pilot was made by an indie animation company, but A24 the most famous indie film company, reach out to Viv and brought her pilot. That’s amazing feeling and great thing to ever happen for her. Honestly this would inspire young filmmakers, indie animator creators to begin their film career if they go to work with A24, even though may not bring a lot of money, but your vision, your originality and passion can be fully displayed to audiences globally. I love you VIV and A24, I hope you continue to do many great things and beyond.

Definitely a fun show. I do hope the cursing gets more creative in the next season, that pacing slows down so we get to actually know more of the characters and plot, and that more of the songs have better build up and feel less expository.
I mean, I do still like the show overall, but the cussing can be super juvenile at times, and I want more along the lines of Angel Dust's cursing from the pilot. Cursing that's smart and targeted as opposed to the overgeneralized "bitch" everyone throws out. Not that some characters can't be that way, but I feel like too many fall back on an easy "bitch" here or a "fuck" there. Lute especially just felt like a 2nd Adam as opposed to being her own character, and I really don't want a 2nd Adam. I understand the purpose of his character but we don't need two of him, and he's also honestly overplayed. Nothing against the actor, but the writing aimed for douchebag and well... yeah, I guess they succeeded on that but I feel the writing around him could've been smarter and more subtle until he needed to break and go full douche. As for Lute, I really wish she had been more of that serious, straightman type for Adam to have notably relied on bounce off of. I hope she takes a more serious tone after everything and stops echoing Adam, especially in her bloodlust. She... she wasn't threatening. Again, I get what they were trying to do, but she just came off as childish, like they were reaching hard for ways to make her sound over violent and it backfired. I do love Lucifer not understanding what he said to Adam though. That was gold, especially because the way he tried to swear showed more about his character in that he is naive to some things like modern slang and insults. The writing here supports his character through how he curses and we need more characters to follow that. They need to curse in character as opposed to just cussing in general. It's not about them saying "bitch" or "fuck" but how they utilize the words, and if they use those words at all.
Speaking of characters, I really hope more gets built up about the cast we have now. I'm hoping that only one or maybe two others get introduced in the next season so this current cast can really show more about themselves and their respective worlds. There are interesting concepts built up and I'd like more of them to be explored. Angel Dust had a really good episode so I hope more of the core characters get episodes with that level of writing and story. It's honestly my favorite for all the character exploration it did, plus having the best song "Loser, Baby" so it'd be great to see other character's stories too, especially with the songs really fitting the characters and showing more about them. The songs felt like they really served the plot here. They came in at very crucial moments and let the characters really express themselves instead of more outlining the plot like in the courtroom scene, or "Respectless." And those songs are still decent and the talent behind them is phenomenal, but the courtroom one very much felt more like being railroaded to get through the plot as opposed to characters expressing themselves, and "Respectless" didn't say much about anyone that hadn't been explained in dialog. I get that there's an old versus new demon lord thing going on, but I still don't know who the V's are really or what they stand for, nor even that imp's name. I just remember she had an English accent and was more about modern trends and stuff. Carmilla was fine but again, I really don't know who she is, or what she stands for, and that extends to the other lords of Hell. If the song had clarified more of those points I'd probably like it beyond the beat, but it's just "we're arguing!" I want to know what makes them argue beyond having different views. I want to know why they have those views in the first place, and understand how they came to be that way. I mean, sure, Carmilla's a mom trying to protect her family, but she's a mom in Hell doing this, so we really need to understand the greater context of what that means especially since that sounds pretty virtuous in a world of the literal damned. "Take up thy sword and defend thy home" sounds like Carmilla did that, so how is she a denizen of the Pentagram when she's only been shown to be a kind mother. Yeah, she's vicious when she needs to be but how is she different from an Angel? Sure, that's part of the mystery of the greater plot, but with what happened to Sir Pentous, where's the clue to the dividing line? What really separates the worlds and how does that work? It doesn't need to be spelled out now, but there should be some clue that hints towards why Carmilla is in Hell while people like Adam and Lute are in Heaven. There needs to be something there for the audience to examine, but there currently isn't, and that doesn't make for a good mystery. A good mystery needs to have clues to follow so people can put something together. Simply withholding information and then revealing it just makes things fall flat, like Vaggie's Angel reveal. The concept gets introduced, but we didn't get to sit with it or see the secret affect Charlie and Vaggie very much before Adam and Lute just reveal it. There was no tension or build up. It was just: "Here's a fun fact!" I am glad for how the following episode handled it, though Vaggie gaining her wings felt underwhelming, personally. Would've preferred Vaggie regained them through a real fight that I might've been worried she and/or Charlie would've lost. Carmilla hinting at what Vaggie needed to do was a good thing, but it was another railroaded moment for me. Like, let's just get through this, oh hey, there's the answer, love! Who would've guessed... Gotta say, Vox Machina did the same thing but better with Grog in their animated series. Sure, we knew his friends were his power, but it wasn't until he actually fought with that conviction in his heart that he regained his strength, which is something Vaggie should've echoed instead. The setup was even there, but she got her powers through a low stakes training session, so it just felt underwhelming. Maybe if she'd come out of Carmilla's all bloodied but still concerned more for Charlie than herself that could've added some tension for the finale. Maybe even show that she left behind a feather as a hint that Carmilla smiles at. Then, in the final battle have her regain her wings at a critical moment to save Charlie and turn the tables. Just saying the characters and plot really could use more build up and excitement. There need to be stepping stones to future payoffs and whether they succeed, or perhaps even fail, it would really help set the world so the story can happen. Having questions about the world and characters is good for an audience, but as a writer you want to make sure they're asking the right questions, so you give them a little clue to follow now that will pay off later, either in tragedy or triumph.
Also, regarding Sir Pentous let's avoid death being the only route to redemption. Don't want a RWBY volume 9 conundrum where the main character basically committing suicide was somehow the right thing for her to do. I don't think that's what would happen as Sir Pentous made a noble sacrifice, but I really don't like the idea that dying has to be a catalyst. I'd prefer that Sir Pentous' virtue was the key to his redemption and that others will find their own paths without dying.

I did touch a little on the songs before along with the characters, but to be fair, those are hard to separate as the songs should generally be characters expressing themselves, but there are songs like "Welcome to Heaven" that work to establish settings, but that is something important to point out. I need to rewatch the show, and I will because it is fun, but I don't remember "Happy Day in Hell" and "Welcome to Heaven" being on the same level. They do work to establish things, but something about "Happy Day in Hell" didn't have me going back to it, nor did it get stuck in my head, and I wonder if that's because it, "Respectless," the courtroom song, as well as both of Carmilla and Vaggie's songs all really work more as exposition, but never reveal much about the individual character's singing them. They all just kinda feel like they're just there, and they never really delve into who it is that is singing the song or why they all feel what they're feeling. Each one of those just kinda says "this is the plot, right here, this is what's happening." Whereas songs like "Poison," "Loser, Baby," "More than Anything," and "Welcome to Heaven" all give a great view of what something means to whoever is singing the song. We get an expression of the characters in these songs that dialog alone never gives us so I think that's why each of these stuck with me. I can't find anywhere else in the series where Angel Dust expresses his problems outside of "Poison" and "Loser, Baby." While all the songs are performed well, these songs stick with me for the deeper meanings they have that are exclusively expressed through these song segments. I can see the V demon being respectless towards the other lords of Hell. I don't need her to sing about it unless she gives me a deeper reason as to why, but her song only covers the surface level and doesn't delve any further. Maybe if she had just burst into the room singing a la "Prince Ali" style then that would've worked to establish her character, but she and the lords already had dialog before the song, so it just felt redundant. "Happy Day in Hell" i wish I could expand more on, but I need to rewatch it. I will say though that it is one of the songs, like the others I mentioned, that has a jarring intro. I'm not sure how to really build into a song, but the pilot had Charlie far better transition into her musical numbers than the Amazon show. It was just weird because I never felt cued it or half of the songs to start. They'd be mind dialog and then suddenly burst into a number and that threw me off, especially the courtroom song. However, "Poison" felt well done and I need to rewatch to understand its transition, but "Loser, Baby" came in just perfectly. Angel Dust was down and sad and Husker needed a way to communicate to him, and well, that was just perfect for Keith David to come in and blow us all away! He even had to explore his own character so Angel Dust could then let his own walls down. That's what I wish more songs would do. "More than Anything" does follow that too, although, it is a little weird that it's initially a father/daughter song, but then gets a romantic reprise with Charlie and Vaggie. I feel like Charlie and Vaggie should have their own love theme instead that can maybe join up with the notes from "More than Anything" after they have a wedding or something, because while I get the whole "she's part of the family" it's odd to have familial and romantic love represented by the same song. I feel more like there should be two different melodies that later harmonize in another song that plays when everyone unites or meets together later as a big family. And then, "Welcome to Heaven" really works for establishing Heaven, and the fact that Saint Peter had time to lead into his song was great. It might not be the most meaningful song of the show but it's comfy and fun, and again I wish more songs were setup as well as this was. I do wish though, that it had expanded more about how Heaven works with... was it Emily? The younger Seraph. She could've and should've joined St. Peter in explaining the workings of Heaven, especially to really give reason to their heavy breathing at the end of the number. It could've been a really great song, and I would've preferred to get that one great song as opposed to shoehorning in 2 songs per episode. It just did not work every time and felt more often like someone was meeting a quota. "Poison" and "Loser, Baby" were great for really exploring the characters but I feel like more often than not a better song got short changed because there always had to be 2 songs instead of focusing on only 1 song, and that also really hurt the story, I feel. That's probably why so much of the show felt rushed. We wasted time on songs that could've simply been dialog like in the courtroom and "Respectless" especially. Now, seeing Charlie and Emily sing together is a powerful image, but the song itself didn't grab me. Again, it felt more expository. I mean, it was all still good as in I still enjoyed it overall and I can certainly listen to each song, but the show can definitely improve with how it uses it songs and builds into them, and I think even cutting some songs might even benefit the show.
Like I said, I do enjoy the show and I'll even rewatch it, it just has ways it can be improved, or at least there were things that just didn't work for me. Personally, I think it can better, but it's still pretty fun as is and I'm looking forward to season 2. I just hope that maybe next season things can be better planned so it's more streamlined. It's overall good, but I'd like to see things flesh out and develop. The final episodes definitely felt a bit better paced, and while there were areas that still lacked in some regards (fight choreography (mainly with Carmilla and Vaggie) and cursing (also for the Princess of Hell Charlie feels super underpowered and underwhelming, she doesn't even have wings... yet? Hoping she grows more in many regards) (also I did not feel for Razzle and Dazzle's deaths, please build up your characters) anyway...) they didn't feel too rushed for once, and I hope they really find that pace in the next season because I liked being able to sit through and enjoy an episode unfold as opposed to many other episodes that felt too whoop, bam, exposition, boom, done. Regardless, I'm sure I'll still have a good time, but I would like to see everything improve and evolve overall, both the story and the writers.
