  • This geode acrylic paint pour was done using a color palette I'm not used to but I love the simplicity and cleanliness of the end result! Now I'm super excited to do more pours similar to this one and am looking for natural geode inspiration!
    While this video WAS the first one I filmed using my new setup, my Christmas pour ( • Merry Christmas Tree R... ) was the second, and I posted that before this one. Let me know what you think about the new angle!
    Used in this video:
    Artist's Loft Flow Acrylic "Black"
    Artist's Loft Flow Acrylic "Titanium White"
    Craft Smart Craft Acrylic "Turquoise"
    Blickrylic (Dick Blick) "Metallic Gold"
    Folk Art Acrylic Craft Paint "414 Cardinal Red" (just a tiny bit used to tint some titanium white)
    Folk Art Acrylic Craft Paint "662 Metallic Silver Sterling"
    Daler Rowney Simply Acrylic "Mother of Pearl Structure Gel"
    Craft Smart Craft Acrylic "Orange" (just a tiny bit used to tint some titanium white)
    Flood Latex Based Floetrol

    Gorgeous. Can you tell me how much floetrol you added?

    • @ArtbyBrooke
      @ArtbyBrooke  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! I don't do an exact measurement but I usually do about 2/3 floetrol to 1/3 acrylic paint...plus usually a little splash of water at the end. The mixture changes depending on the brand of paint, and craft paints vs. heavy body acrylic. I have some videos where I show you how I mix my paint if you are interested. Here is one of those: th-cam.com/video/e2jDUFZjbCI/w-d-xo.html (My "How To Paint A Geode" video)

    It’s a beautiful work. So calming. I don’t see the gold, but a tasteful gold would be the only thing I would wish for. Buts it’s gorgeous the way it is.

      Thank you so much, Sheila! It's hard to tell that it's gold until you get up close. It's that sort of brown/khaki color :) I think when I add a varnish or enamel it will bring it out more. Thank you for watching!

    Absolutely my favorite geode pour painting on TH-cam (and I've watched far more than I care to admit). You didn't over work it and I love that you left negative space. Perfection! Hoping I can successfully duplicate it. 🤞

      Thank you SO much Alisa! I am going to be trying another one coming up and I hope I can duplicate it too, haha! I have done a few little ones too and the combo of puddle pour and tree ring pour layers seem to work pretty well! Let me know how it goes when you try it :D Wishing you tons of luck and fun with it!

    Can you tell us more about you paint consistency and how you avoided cells?

    • @ArtbyBrooke
      @ArtbyBrooke  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I have a tutorial on how I paint pour geodes here: th-cam.com/video/e2jDUFZjbCI/w-d-xo.html
      To avoid cells, you will want to mix your paint and then let it sit for awhile before using (that lets the air bubbles work their way out). Also I recommend pouring carefully and closer to the canvas to avoid it splashing down and forcing more air into the paint (making more cells). There is always a chance for cells when using metallic colors in pours, and some pouring mediums create more than others. It's a little trial and error :)

    I have watched this over and over again and I love it so much. What did the dried painting look like? Do you resin on top or varnish? Thanks

    • @ArtbyBrooke
      @ArtbyBrooke  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! I'm so happy you love it! I haven't ventured into doing resin on my pieces, to be honest it scares me a little! But I love the shine. I really like Liquitex gloss or matte varnish, and sometimes use Rustoleum Crystal Clear Enamel spray (which I think I might have used on this one once it was dry). I have some photos on my Instagram from when it was dry. This first one was I believe before it was sealed: instagram.com/p/BscAJF1DDGf/?igshid=17nb7qpd0v070 and this second one shows it hanging at an artist's marketplace (swipe to see it a little closer): instagram.com/p/Buet40Uh89z/?igshid=c3h4ivp0bx1m

    That’s so pretty! What white paint do you use for the canvas?

    • @ArtbyBrooke
      @ArtbyBrooke  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! I often use Artist's Loft Flow Acrylic White but have heard their newer batches aren't the same as they used to be. I have a backstock of the previous recipe so I haven't tried the new kind yet. I also like Liquitex Basics Titanium White ( amzn.to/3VIAyjo ) though that can be pricey. I haven't used it a ton, but if you are looking for a craft white, I love DecoArt Americana Multi-Surface Satin (bottle looks like this, but in their white: amzn.to/3P8bCPz ). I have heard recommendations to NOT use Apple Barrel white, it sounds like people have trouble with it cracking as it dries. (As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases using my links)

      @@ArtbyBrooke are you able to use wall paint if it’s mixed with something?

    • @ArtbyBrooke
      @ArtbyBrooke  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! I have used wall paint quite a few times. I mix it with Flood Floetrol and get it to the consistency I mix my other paints to. Just be sure it's not a weird wall paint like an oil based or something, I personally don't know if that would work or not.

    BRAVO! I don’t think you should add any kind of additional “pizzaz” to your geode pours. I’m a crystal healer, check out some Celestine geodes, and citrine as well also any Jasper!!! (Ocean jasper is my fave). This looks like REAL geodes. Also, your color choices are fantastic- seems like you’re familiar with color theory which is important in fluid art I have found. Defined POV, keep it up!!!!

    Is that white paint that you spread across the canvas in the first step?

    • @ArtbyBrooke
      @ArtbyBrooke  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep! White paint mixed with floetrol and a little bit of water :)
