30 seconds in forscan will turn it off. Pretty easy to do. It's under "battery management system" under the body control module and you just set it to disabled for a px1 to turn it off. I've been running mine disabled for a while now and no issues. I disabled it because it was too easy to flatten it after not driving it for a few weeks. With it disabled no issues. BT50 is factory without the smart alternator and they have no issues, I think it is one of the dumber things Ford has added.
Unfortunately Bt 50 does have the same smart alternator as i worked on these when i was at a Mazda Dealership and yes replaced a couple due to some being faulty both vehicles are built side by side in Auto Alliance factory in Thailand and the new Isuzu /bt50 Mazda also has the smart alternator
On a quick note if you don't want to disconnect the sensor you can drive with your head lights on that way it the alternator will be charging at maximum voltage
I have multiple batteries in the back of my 2021kia soul for music you have two options keep your headlights on or turn your air-conditioning to 3 and it will make the alternator put out more voltage also use a agm battery up front last option disconnect the plug on the negative cable and it will also stay charging but you might see the alternator light staying on I don't know if you got the first message but you can also get a digital voltage meter off Amazon you hook it up to your ignition fuse and ground it and it will tell you where your voltage is at when the car is running or when the key is back
Hi I see you have a negative wire on the battery post, which I am guessing is for the CT radio, the current sensor will not see this current drain and can cause issues, when a current sensor is on the battery use the chassis for the ground, I also had the dealer switch on "dual batteries" mode which solved my battery issues.
I still trickle charge my battery before winter, I live a slight colder place, and first day of spring. That way I know over winter it will start on the dot, and summer I tend to leave the radio going when jump out.

You need to reset the bms via a scan tool to tell the vehicle when it’s had a new battery fitted on a ranger otherwise the system can charge erratically. You shouldn’t have anything earthed to the negative battery post either otherwise the system can’t compensate for the additional load because the shunt can’t see it.
You don't have to drive around for 20 minutes. If your battery is good then the alternator will recover the battery in under 5 minutes. Also when engine is shut down battery will lose the surface charge and stabilise at around 12 6 volts
Do you get any buzzing in behind the front door cards when going over bumps? I have a new px3 ranger and it has slight buzzing in the 2 front doors when going over rough road or if i have the radio up at 15. For a new rig you think this wouldn't be the case. The windows were tinted but the window tinter said he never touched any of the cables or the routing as its behind a foam barrier.
Best tip is to spend the extra money on a good quality AGM battery of the largest capacity that can physically fit I’m using Delkor LN4 800cca in my Px2 handles any abuse

I've scoured its website but cannot find which version/option that I'll need to turn off smart charging. Reason that I want to do this is if I leave the car parked up for 2 weeks or more then I have to either get it jump started or put it on the charger for a few hours so I can start it. Maybe when I drive it for an extended period before parking it up, its higher voltage will give me that extra reserve to sit there for a month. Just recently we returned from a month being away. The battery was flatter than a pancake. I had to use the physical key in the fob to open the door so I could pop the bonnet to hook up the charger. I use an old fashioned $50 Arlec 20a charger as the fancy smart charger that I have would see it as a 6v battery and tell me that it's fully charged! I've already had to replace the OEM battery after I think 18 months from buying the car (new). I'm afraid that the second battery now in it will also die a horrible death if this problem persists. As an aside we've regularly travelled overseas and leaving the car in the long term carpark at Melbourne Airport for up to 6 weeks at a time has never been a problem. Only the Ranger has shown that it can't be left longer than a week or so without taking it for a spin. In the meantime I've permanently connected an Anderson plug to the battery and one on the smart charger output. So, when we go away again soon I can hook the smart charger up, leave it sitting under the bonnet out of the weather and locked (and hopefully it won't blow up or something stupid like that), so it can maintain the battery SoC while we're away.
You can get your Ranger set to duel battery mode pre delivery No problems but after 5000 service the voltage rose to 15volts. They said 15.1 is the max. They must have drained the battery when they serviced it. All normal now. Runs at 14.2 norm.

I'm not sure this is a good idea. I would not like to go on a long trip with the alternator light on. All these circuits are integrated so there may be repercussions if you did this for any amount of time. I'm having my local Ford bloke "de-smart" my Ranger alternator soon.
From Philippines here.... Good day. I have this issue after i changed my battery, it drops to 12.6 and not able to charge. Tried to swap alternator, still does not charge. So my alternator is good. After i saw this video i tried to remove the bms sensor in the negative battery, now it stablized at 14.1-14.4 with or without load. The problem is if i reconnect the bms sensor in the negative terminal, it will again drop to 12.6. Does this mean the sensor is broken? Or the Bms module (if there is any)? Hope you can help me with this one. Thanks
If i disconnect the BMS sensor, is it still safe to drive it? Will there be any alarms aside from the battery sign in the dashboard? It may take a long time looking for parts (sensor) here in my place, even in the dealership its unavailable.
I don't quite understand that we run 370 high output alternators or more for stereo systems and our charging system is 14.6 to 14.8 and never had a battery issue in 3 years?
@TheCommanderNZ actually that $88.00 has to pay for the mechanic, the laptop, the service writer, the person answering the phone to make your appointment, blah,blah ,blah so in theory that's pretty cheap. It's a business. Your not paying for just someone to push a button on a laptop

I got the dealer to disable the smart charge during service.

i would say it's the variable voltage alternator doing it's job, does your battery go flat?
Yes. If its not turned on 2-3days it will go flat.
