    34:17 when you know how the movie ends and what Goldi's wish was, this actually adds a new layer to the star...it tries to grant the wish without using its power

  • @explosenl
    @explosenl ปีที่แล้ว +69

    The fun thing is that everyone kinda got their wish despite not making one.
    - Goldie wanted a family, and she learned she already had one.
    - Kitty wanted someone she could trust, and she met one.
    - Puss wanted his lives back, and he got one that was worth eight more.
    - Wolf wanted to see an arrogant, death-defying prick die. And he did.
    Purrito didn't really have a wish, but one could argue that attaining comradery was a wish he didn't know he wanted. Jack didn't really get his wish (unless you consider magic coarsing through his body and killing him), but that makes sense since he's, as Jimminy puts it, an irredeemable monster.
    This movie is a fucking masterpiece.

    • @gurvmlk
      @gurvmlk 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, Jack's wish was to have all the magic in the world. So if we want to give him something, we could say that he became part of the world's magic as the star exploded, and him along with it as the two became one.
      Could maybe even work as a sequel plot. Where he comes back as some sort of omnipotent sorcerer whose soul is now bound to the world's magic, because his sheer will for that wish caused it to inadvertently be granted when the star consumed him. Even if not exactly in the way he wanted.

    Just for some context, Kitty Softpaws was introduced in the first Puss in Boots movie, where she was at first a stray cat that got adopted by a family, Kitty was really proud of her claws, but since she kept scratching the curtains and furniture, her owners declawed her, so she ran away and decided to never trust anyone again, since i dont wanna spoil anything else about the plot, i'm just gonna say that she and Puss ended the movie in good terms, so them being at each other's throats again in the beginning of this movie was supposed to be a surprise, and the mistery and reveal of what happened in Santa Coloma makes their relationship a lot more interesting and fun compared to the first movie.

      its one of those things where it isnt so far removed and extreme like say, being stabbed with a knife. not everyone knows what being stabbed feels like. its too intense to really imagine.
      but *everyone* can understand exactly what it would feel like to have a splinter/needle under the nail, even if they havent experienced the extreme version of it seen in the movie.

    • @gurvmlk
      @gurvmlk 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ashleyjohnson9651 Indeed. It's a relatable amount of pain, so one can accurately imagine it while seeing it. Whereas with something more extreme like your example of a knife stab, in which everybody's common sense knows it's painful, but personal experience likely doesn't have any actual context for just how painful.
      It's all a matter of understanding. The same can be said about other things, as well. Such as empathy. When I was a kid, I pretty much never felt an ounce of sadness when watching movies. But as I've gotten older, and experienced my own losses, it's become a lot easier for me to tear up when watching films, because I now understand the pain the characters are going through on a personal level.

I like how, at the start, Puss was bragging about having "never been touched by a blade." So the moment Death was actually able to cut him, Puss became a scared, anxious mess. So the Dog's map seems all cool, fun, and happy at first, right? Sure, but it's probably the most subtly dark thing in this movie.
    Pocket Full of Posies: It's certainly nice on the surface, but only until you realize that the nursery rhyme the title comes from is itself an analogy for one of the biggest catastrophies in human history, The Black Death/The Plague.
    Rivers of Relaxation: Probably the most self explanatory one, given that the dog tells us the story of how his owners tried to drown him to death.
    Quick and Easy Solutions: We don't see this part of the map, unfortunately. But, it's name does give us some big hints, and I would wager there's 2 possibilities for what it's an allegory for.
    1) This is the much darker option that comes from my own depression riddled brain: Suicide and/or Suicidal Thoughts. Doesn't get more quick and easy than a gun to your head and a bullet through the skull, eh? In theory, the thematic reason we don't see this part in the movie is because the Dog hasn't really gotten to the point where Suicide would be something he thinks about. He's too optimistic and happy for that.
    2) This one doesn't come from me, but rather a reply from someone else the last time I made this comment. Their interpretation was more surface level than mine, but no less valid. Quick and easy solutions have a bad habit of biting you in the ass later down the line. Like putting a band-aid on a bullet wound while the bullet is still in said wound. You stopped the bleeding and all, sure, but since ya didn't remove the bullet to prevent lead poisoning, or disinfect the wound, it'll cause much worse problems for you later on.
    So yeah, doggo's map is kinda the darkest.
    I also have a theory that the wishing star, as grand as it seems, is actually a sort of monkey's paw. Like, you'll get your wish, but at a grave cost sort of deal. Why do I think this?
    Because otherwise the maps make very little sense. The whole point of the maps seem to be making sure that you realize your flaws and your issues on your own, and then take matters into your own hands to fix the issues. Not once do the maps actually encourage or push the people with it to use the star, and in the case of Goldilocks, actually tries to dissuade her by making her understand she's already got her wish.
    Maybe it's just me though. I tend to read too far into stuff like that, but it's an interesting thought, yeah?

    • @aushnova3659
      @aushnova3659 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You are thinking to hard. The map is a mirror of the inner self of is current owner. No subtlety required.

    • @colt1903
      @colt1903 ปีที่แล้ว +64

      @@aushnova3659 No, there's definite subtly with the dog. His whole character is a dark past buried under more optimism and happiness than should be reasonably possible.
      Therefore, his map, as a reflection of that, is super fucking happy with a little bit of dark tones underneath. Not that hard to recognize or understand. Not like it hurts the movie in any way. Hell, makes it better, in fact.

    • @Birthday888
      @Birthday888 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      @@colt1903 I mean, even with the Map's magic transforming the route, it's still the Dark Forest. Even scarier, it definitely has some kind of sentience because the way the posies act towards Jack and his men is way more violent than how they treated Puss and Kitty.

    • @colt1903
      @colt1903 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@Birthday888 True, though the map, and the star by extension, most likely know their wishes as soon as they enter the Dark Forest, and understood Big Jack Horner was the last person that should be allowed to wish on it. Thus, sabotage.

    • @andymac4883
      @andymac4883 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      So, the idea that Ring a Ring o' Rosies refers to the Black Death (or any other plague) is actually an urban legend, there's no evidence that it came from that. The earliest versions of the rhyme that appear in print are missing a lot of the lyrics that are supposed to refer to plague symptoms, and end with the players waking up again after falling down.
      *That being said* it's entirely possible that the writers made the Pocket Full o' Posies reference believing the urban legend anyway, so it doesn't entirely negate this theory. Still, my takeaway from the movie was that because Perrito (1) is a genuinely selfless and relentlessly optimistic person and (2) doesn't actually intend on finding the star for the purposes of making a (potentially) selfish wish, the map was more willing to let him get there. The 'challenge' at the Posies is easy to overcome for somebody who intends to appreciate all that life has to offer, in stopping and smelling the roses, and the river may be the setting for Perrito's story, but there's no indication that anything about it made him tell it. It's a genuinely relaxing ride otherwise.
      I figured it was sort of like the final puzzle of the Philospher's Stone in Harry Potter, where only somebody who wants to find the stone but not _use_ it would be able to get it from the Mirror.

    Man the subtitles on this version of the movie are something else, the characters say a single word in Spanish and the subs just go "[speaks in Spanish]". Like 30:17, the subtitles are like actively keeping from reading the word "gatito". Like, man, I saw this in cinemas, and I'm Swedish, and this is a kid-friendly movie, so I got the Swedish dub of the film, take what you can get, was fine, but at the very least they just wrote out the Spanish words on the screen. It's like the Swedish version expects Swedes to be more curious about Spanish as a third language than the US version expect Americans to be about Spanish as a second language, even though people in the US are more likely to run into Spanish-speakers than I am.

    • @Sera666

      I'm American and primarily speak english and honestly I don't mind the subtitles being "Speaking Spanish" It serves those who never cared about learning Spanish right for thinking English is the best. I learned some Spanish on my own and was excited to realize how much of this movie I understood.

      @@Sera666 Bro, I'm not saying they should translate it for you (although that wouldn't be too weird, it's a kid-friendly movie after all), they didn't do that in Swedish cinema either, I'm just saying that they should WRITE THE SPANISH WORDS, instead of treating it like literal gibberish. Interrupting the subs with the "[speaks in Spanish]" bit just messes with my ability to even follow the sentence, and treats it like you shouldn't even want to understand it.

    If the subtitles are just going to read "speaking in Spanish," then what's the point of the subtitles even existing? Subtitles either exist to translate foreign dialogue, which that doesn't do, or they exist to provide words to read for people who are deaf, which that also doesn't do.
