    26:11 a theory i have is that kitty really DID show up to the wedding, but she just lied about it to puss because she overheard how guilty he felt about it. she was genuinely angry with him about santa coloma earlier in the movie so i think she was there to be abandoned and hurt, but after overhearing his conversation with perrito she forgave him and didn't want to make a big deal out of it when he brought it up

    This sequel truly had no right to be this incredible or go this HARD! The first movie was certainly good, but man this sequel absolutely blew me away with the writing, the music, visuals and animation frame-rate change, the characters journey especially Puss, Goldilocks, Kitty etc.... This movie really makes Puss the more of an interesting character and one of tmy favourite DreamWorks protagonists too. Not to mention this films depictin of Death is genius and I adore how much he actually tests Puss, not because he's evil but wants to show Puss how to value his life and genuinely puts the fear the of death into you giving you goosebumps everytime you hear rhat whistle. Death is honestly one of greatest DreamWorks villains we've ever seen and is definitely up there with villains like Tai Lung, Lord Shen, Fairy Godmother, Captain DuBois, Pitch Black etc...

    • @moniquesalazar1708
      @moniquesalazar1708 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +21

      His Spanish rant about playing with his food makes me doubt that Death's intentions were so benign. He scolded himself for playing with his food and when he told Puss about how he was hunting the egotistical legend, Death seemed disappointed that he could no longer do that, since Puss changed. Not to take away from Death wishing him well, but he presents as the type to get a kick out of subduing (💀⚰️) prideful/disrespectful mortals. I don't think teaching was on the agenda, unless we consider revenge to be a form of teaching.

    • @cynxmanga
      @cynxmanga 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Death didn't want to teach Puss anything. It just happened "by accident". Death is a true menace and that's why he's so awesome, stop downplaying his role.

    • @LionManatic
      @LionManatic 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@moniquesalazar1708 I think the biggest thing, that sorta makes me think that Death was basically the equivalent of Rattlesnake Jake from Rango, where he calls the protagonist out on their BS and tests them to be who they claim to be or else face the consequences. Is that, while unlike Jake, Death is a force of nature who could at any point (with some rules I'm sure), just end it with Puss. The part what got me sorta convinced is at the last fight scene, where Death kept Puss's sword and gave it to him. Sure, maybe he was still playing with his food, but he did say in the beginning that "We've reached the end", and created a fire ring that Puss couldn't pass. If Death was really done with him, he wouldn't of never gave Puss his weapon back, let alone keep it all this time, and giving him that last chance to fight for his life.
      Maybe teaching wasn't the primary intention, but could've became a secondary intention, varying of how serious Puss was taking it. :^P

      The best storytelling is drawn from life experiences. It definitely makes writing more powerful, as it comes from a real place. Some writers are often criticized because they don't insert much of themselves in their craft, which leaves it lackluster. Someone having experienced a particular thing can describe the experience and portray it within their craft with much more vividness and detail, than someone who lacks the experience and just wants to portray something they haven't felt themselves. My rating on this movie went from an 8/10 on first viewing to a 10/10 after rewatch only because I realised how much it achieves:
    - It juggles 3 villains equally and gives them all a noticeable presence and influence in the plot (The force of nature, the redeemable and irredeemable villains)
    - It has a realistic depiction of a panic attack
    - A comedic relief character that is very likeable that contributes to puss' character arc, and he isn't just there to be annoying
    - They actually have the guts to animate blood, include comedic censoring and make death genuinely terrifying
    - The pacing is phenomenal considering how much happens in the 90 minutes
    - Beautiful animation that is inspired by Spiderverse but has a unique art pallete type colouring
    - A meaningful character arc not just from Puss, but from Kitty and Goldilocks as well
    - And the most impressive thing is that you can watch this movie as a standalone without watching the first and you wouldn't miss a single thing
    Shocked that it only got rated a 7.8/10 on IMDB. The film deserves at least an 8/10

    56:30 this is the biggest message for me, Perrito was just there, in silence, when his friend needed him. That shows the importance of having people that love you around you. Puss wanted the legend, the fame, but that was going to lead him to a life of loneliness. Thanks your this amazing reaction!!

    What makes Death so good is that he's not really a villain. He's an antagonist that the hero has to overcome, like a force of nature. I love the message at the end that we can never REALLY ever beat Death. It's a very powerful message for a children's movie

    What really got to me in this movie is that it made me cry (Mama Bear telling Goldie “Whether you think we’re your family or not, if this is something that will make you happy, we’ll get you that wish”, and the end where Goldie hugged her Mama and told her that she did get her wish and everything was just right, and lastly, when Puss’ 9th life flashed before his eyes, and Death tried to taunt him again with “What’s the matter? Lives flashing before your eyes?” only to get a determined Puss facing him down with “No, just THIS one!” ), but in a happy way. In a “that’s so sweet/wholesome, everything is gonna be ok” way.
    The only other animated movie to make me cry as a teen/adult was How To Train Your Dragon 2, with Stoick’s death. But that left me hollow, sent me into a depression, and hurt me so bad that I still have not watched HTTYD 3 for fear that it also will have some horrible gut punching heartwrench.
    The Last Wish, on the other hand, shows that a show or movie doesn’t need to resort to brutally killing a beloved character to get viewers emotional, and for this reason and many others, this is my favorite animated movie.
    One last note: despite the tune being identical, when Death bids Puss goodbye, until the death, and turns to leave, his whistle is suddenly no longer menacing and horror vibey.
    Again, despite it not actually changing tune or intensity, its suddenly haunting, but beautiful and kinda relaxing. Which is the true message of the film, after the importance of friends and family: Death is peaceful, not something to fear, but something Puss will likely greet like an old friend when he finally dies forever after
    Edit: the whistle is no longer accompanied by the drumbeats

    • @theirishviking9278

      I rarely comment, but I would just like to say something about the How To Train Your Dragon part. I totally, totally, totally get what u mean in regards to Stoick and the emotions and feelings related to that and to the whole How To Train Your Dragon series in general. The series is honestly one of the best and on of the most emotional things I have laid my eyes on and experienced ever. And no spoilers for the third, but I just want to say your fears are totally understandable but I just want to reassure you that such a thing will not happen. I watched it when it came out and since then haven’t because the emotions and everything is a lot for me, but definitely not in a hollow, sad or negative way. It’s just really, really good and emotional in a lot of ways (but none very depressing or sad). So I just wanted to tell you that I get it but it’s okay to watch it! And I say this because How To Train Your Dragon is something I hold very close to my heart and your feelings about it really resonated with me and its just something that I feel like words won’t do it justice. It’s just one of those things that’s so good, I don’t want anyone to deprive themselves of it so I hope this serves as some kind of reassurance, comfort or encouragement to watch the third. Also I am basing this off of a few sentences so if u don’t relate with this at all, then feel free to ignore this whole thing lol.

The Hiccup's speech during Stoick's funeral is for me the most emotional scene in any animation ever, I remember crying to it in the theaters, so hard that my 3D glasses got wet so I barely saw the following scene, but after a rewatch I listened to those words more carefully, and I realised how brilliant the whole speech was. When I first watched this movie, I was left with this sense of "What right does an eleven-year-late sequel to a spinoff of a series that I never _really_ cared for in the first place have to be such a powerful and sobering look at mortality and how we live our lives?" Seriously, though. I love the portrayal of Death... and I really don't count him as a villain. Yes, he wants to take Puss' life throughout the movie, but... when you really get serious about what we see of Puss... he _isn't_ a hero. He lies, he cheats, he steals, and he actively puts others in danger for the glory of his "legend." His eighth death was entirely the result of his reckless risk-taking and showboating. If he hadn't felt the need to hold the party at the governor's mansion, then there never would have been a fight... and if he hadn't felt the need to bring fireworks to a sword fight that he was already winning, the giant would never have woken up and tried to abduct people, and he would never have put himself in a position to be crushed by the bell. Honestly, if I had been Puss' friend, I would have just stared dumbfoundedly at him and said "What the heck were you thinking? That was a horrible plan in the first place!" How many other times has he put people at risk? We know how many times he's thrown a life away and never learned from it. That version of Puss needed to die, but... a new version of Puss took its place, and this one has infinitely more right to be called a hero at this point.
    A few little fun tidbits, though. Not only was that Florence Pugh, Papa Bear was played by Ray Windstone, who also played Dreykov in Black Widow... so a little bit of an MCU reunion there XD Also, when he is going through listing the times he's died, the embellishment at the corners of the cards _is_ Death. Really eerie detail for them to have included. After all... he was there for each and every one of the times that he's died. And... the times he shows up in the movie are when Puss is slipping back into his old bad habits. Using the villagers to block the horses was a pretty miserable move when you realize that, had the horses not stopped, then several of those people would have been hurt or even killed.
    You noticed the art style was very Into the Spiderverse inspired, and... yeah. You are 100% correct on that. They really learned from that movie's success to see that they could do much more stylized things and just... really hit it out of the park. Oh, and kudos to them giving the most realistic depiction of a panic attack that I've ever seen in any medium. The way the sound was muffled, and there was just the feeling of the fear being everything in your world... oh, and the thing Perrito did to help him is an actual technique taught to therapy dogs called pressure therapy. And, hey, Perrito wanted to be a therapy dog. Heck, as much as it is Puss in Boots, he's the one who made the movie truly click.

    This film is a masterpiece to me and I'm happy that you guys finally reacted to it! As a massive Puss fan, the first film didn't really have an impact to me tho I liked it and I've rewatched it so many times lol! But this sequel reminded me that Puss isn't an immortal, invincible Zorro that I've always looked up to with shiny eyes. He was weak, a coward, and he was a loser. And his growth throughout the film made me love his character, not just a superhero I admire, but as a "person" who finally attained real "strength" and finally loved his own life. And it has a huge impact cause I was just a teen in the first film and now as an adult with similar experience, it spoke so much to me and it reminded me that I've grown up with Puss. It was amazing.
    Now my favorite is Death lmao! I still love Puss but Death is such a badass! Such an incredible character that made the show so great!

Puss was feeling down on himself about needing to “retire.” He was forced to confront his mortality, because he was down to his “last life,” whereas humans simply get older and closer to death. I dont see Death as a villian. I dont know why people keep calling him a villian. He was the personification of death, he existed to externalize Puss' fear and he was also a lesson. He was more of a warning than a villian.

      I had the same same thought. Jack Horner was more villainous than Death.

      Yeah. Jack Horner was a villain, Death was just an antagonist: he opposes the protagonist's goals, but not because he is evil.

      The main reason I’d imagine death is called a villain is because puss isn’t dying and death’s coming for his soul, it’s cause he’s trying to kill him and end his last life early just because death feels he’s wasted his previous ones

      I didagree. He is outright tormenting puss due to disliking the way he lived. Even if his actions caused a healthier life for Puss, Death's intent was to torment him, terrify him, then murder him. It wasn't his job to do so here, he simply had a personal grudge.@pabloc8808

      To me DEATH is not a villain or an antagonist he is more a force of nature, like earth quakes or tornadoes you can’t fight nature

    53:45 - AMEN BROTHER, I couldn’t agree more. Money is everywhere, so is stuff. Memories with those you love are what makes life worth while.

    "I'll get you, my kitties, and your little dog too"
    "Not the bees"
    Classic quotes, and that movie actually makes them better.
